Story (or lack there is): A world where the existence of magic has been known for a century as a mysterious power to rival science. However, the discovery of MISO — the Material of an Impediment to the Sorcerer's Orders — made magic into not a special power, but a technique that can be raised. One morning, while Shōta Hacchōya (a high school boy attending a magic academy) was tasting miso soup, a princess of Majieeru suddenly breaks in. Majieeru happens to be the birthplace of magic.
After that weird encounter, the two get chased by some helicopters and try to hurt them. They stop them with there magic and go back home not questioning it once.
More characters come in and try to take the princess back home by dueling them or do nothing. More lazy fights and... stuff happens I guess. Well good luck trying to make a lick of sense out of all of this because they only bring it up once or twice and not focus on it so much, mainly because it wants to rush and cram everything and nothing within its 15 minute one episode time slot. Yes I'm dead serious. Its especially infuriating especially considering the fact that it ends on a freaking cliffhanger!
Animation: The animation is mediocre at best. Some stiff movements, some not, but its there. The fight scenes are unimpressive and are at times really stupid. The characters look nice but I've seen better. Oh yeah, the background designs are totally uninspired to say the least. You've got generic beach, generic town, generic school, and generic apartment. And you don't get any time to let them sink in, not that it matters anyway cause they all don't look that great.
Sound: The sound is also meh. OP is the same as the ED and its really the only good thing about the show... however since there is only ONE freaking episode of it, you cannot really get into the song and enjoy it (especially since it plays after the awful beginning and ending).
Everyone has tolerable voice work but its emotionless and lifeless. No effort is put into it whatsoever but hey at least it isn't annoying, stupid, and sort of fits with the already lifeless characters.
Characters: Speaking of, NOBODY has any depth, charm, or even a character trait. I'm not joking, these aren't even generic roles, they literally all have no personality especially since you never know who they are or what they do in the anime. Characters just show up for no reason, make a painful ecchi joke, say title of the show, (and THEN have a full minute of them in a bikini because... this show is taking a break? WHY?), and then just almost never show up again!
Enjoyment: .......the pacing is horrible and the show ends on a cliffhanger. DO YOU REALLY THINK I ENJOY THIS CAUSE I SURE AS HELL DON'T! Um... sorry about that I got a little carried away. Its not really as bad as I'm letting on... actually it is, since they never made a sequel or anything like that again. I think it was a foolish attempt to make people read the light novel or some shit but... I don't want to.
Overall: Just stay away from this one. Worst 15 minutes of my life.
Thank you for reading my 54th review (I'll make a more positive review next time)~

:There are no spoilers in this review, the synopsis has more information than the actual OVA does, and I'm not kidding:
The concept of "Mahou Tsukai Nara Miso wo Kue!" sounds quite interesting, a world where the existence of magic is know, and used. People can gain more power with their abilities relating to "the Material of an Impediment to the Sorcerer's Orders" or MISO.
Sounds like the anime Sekirei, except you level up, like in a video game.
If executed well, it could be entertaining.
But after the 1 minute explanation of the concept by an omnipresent narrator, the show turns into an ecchi fest.
I can tell you the whole story right now:
Opening monologue explaining existence of magic and MISO,
Two characters are intoduced, 1 joke,
OP titles (a waste of time where they could have added some story),
out of nowhere the two characters have a short fight with a helicopter,
Some brooding dialogue with the "Boss",
then a random ecchi scene for no reason (it's so unrelated it is to the show your jaw will drop),
then a new character is introduced, one joke with some up-skirt shots,
another unrelated ecchi scene,
and then it repeats that exact same cycle of "New character, joke, up-skirt, random ecchi scene" 3 times, until it ends with a cliffhanger fught (if you were actually interested enough to call it that). ED credits (Just scrolling text over black.)
This short episode felt extremely off the cuff, and not very well planned.
It did not make me want to read the Light Novels in any way.
There's absolutely no character, you just see what they look like and what kind of underwear and bikini they would wear.
The art is quite good when it comes to anime, but generic. For an OVA it could have been better, especially if it's trying to persuade me into reading the light novels.
They have the time, they have short window to tell a story, why couldn't they make it successful?
The music and seiyuu are what you would expect, they do the best with what they've got.
---
I thought I was going to watch something unique, and bring some form of entertainment, but the useless, random ecchi scenes, and disjointed storyboard make this a confusing mess, and it's only 15 minutes.
Too much time was wasted on the useless ecchi, bad jokes (the jokes are redundant, if you can believe that), OP, and ED.
This may have been an episode that was coupled with the novels, so it's kind of like an extra treat. But this will leave a bad taste in your mouth, compared to much better series you probably have already seen.
"Sekirei" would be a better Series to watch if you want something like this.
