Super Fishing Grander Musashi
スーパーフィッシング グランダー武蔵Musashi lives with his father. His mother left them three years ago. Musashi believes she will come back to them. One day they move from Tokyo to a village in the countryside. Musashi hates living in the countryside and asks his father to take him back to Tokyo. He wonders if his mother will be able to find him in their new home. Soon after moving to the countryside, Musashi happens to see a man fishing for bass with a decoy fish. Musashi is fascinated by lure fishing. He learns a lot from the man, and discovers that his mother's father was a grand champion of bass fishing. Musashi feels that fishing could lead him to his missing mother. He shows a marvelous talent for lure fishing and takes trips to many places around the world in search of various incredible fish. Through fishing, Musashi comes to enjoy living amongst nature. So I would like to start off by saying that I often look for anime that seem weird or anime that with themes that seem to not work. This is how I started Prince of Tennis and began the spiral I'm in now which has led to this.
Story:
Kazama Musashi is a young boy who is forced to move to the country side because an evil organization is chasing his mother and grandfather and is hounding him and his father to their whereabouts. They have no idea where they are, but that doesn’t stop them from trying to find out! One day he meets someone known as Magic Jim, a person who has a high reputation in fishing circles and it is from him he learns to love fishing and thus the adventures of Musashi against the evil Demon Fishing Organization BEGIN!
This anime is… interesting, to say the least because it actually lived up to all my expectations which is sort of odd to say because what kind of expectations would I have in a fishing anime. Well, it has over the top casting techniques, some which I’m sure are real in some form like bouncing the lure and some of the statistics about which lures do what, over the top equipment, also apparently magic or something.
Animation & Sound:
Note: I am simplifying scoring on these sections.
1 - if I noticed it was bad
2.5 - if I thought it was fine
5 - if I noticed it was good
As I am not an expert on animation as a whole I can only give you my overall feelings which is not conducive for a 1-5 scale. I will be scoring the sound in the same way because I am more focused on the story and overall enjoyment in my scoring.
Character:
Honestly all the characters are pretty standard for a sports anime, also since it is geared towards children all the characters are pretty simple so to not confuse it's target audience. I wouldn't necessarily call it bad though if I'm viewing it from that standpoint.
When the novelty of the fishing theme wore off, what was left was something that wasn’t very interesting. As it is a sports anime I can’t really complain about the plot too much, though. It’s hard to make fishing exciting though really, you can tell me all you want that what the main character or villain is doing is special but if I have no foundation of fishing of my own right then really it’s just words. You can show me all the techniques that are somewhat grounded in nature and I really can't grasp it as easily as maybe boxing or football can.
Unless you're a fishing fan I doubt you'll find enjoyment in this anime, it's pretty much standard fare all the way through.
