The Labyrinth of Grisaia: The Cocoon of Caprice 0

グリザイアの迷宮 カプリスの繭0

Having attended Mihama Academy for about a year, Yuuji Kazami has seemingly found his place within the school, but he suddenly decides to pursue a promotion in CIRS. After consulting JB about his intentions, they both thoroughly examine Yuuji's documents and dissect the events of his upbringing to determine if the job is fit for him. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the two, the girls of Mihama uncover some torn documents in Yuuji's room. After restoring the papers, they discover the story that has formed—or perhaps broken—Yuuji into the man he is today. However, what was thought to be history has haunted him to the present, and the chains of the past begin to drag him back into the darkness... [Written by MAL Rewrite]

A nice view of Yuuji's youth and what built his interesting character.  It's surprising he isn't more warped than he is based on that past.  His sister's influense in his past is both positive and negative with a over welming love of him that isolated him from others, but with a sense of security in that at least she loves him. His parents complete dis reguard of him is totally ridiculous as well.  If she is still alive I wonder if she has intentionally stayed away to make him stronger or is it a manipulation of his character. Looking forward to more delving to what makes up Yuuji Kazami.

Summary: Grisaia no Meikyuu is a prequel to the The Grisaia no Kajitsu(The Fruit of Grisaia) anime. It is based on the linear story visual novel of the same name. Meikyuu focuses on Yuuji's past and back story and how he came to be the stoic protagonist from the main visual novel and anime. I won't go into full detail as I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't played the VN. Also it should be noted that you should play the original Fruit of Grisaia VN or watch the Fruit of Grisaia anime before watching the prequel.

Story: the story is spectacular and very well told. I felt like it overall flowed very well. The story as I mentioned before focuses on Yuuji. It starts with his childhood and continuous until he becomes a member of Mihama Academy. The main focus of the first half is the relationship he shares with his parents and his genius sister while the second half explains what happened after his parents death. The main focus being on his military training and how he met Asako.

Animation: The animation style stayed consistent with that of the main series. Nothing really stood out to me as it was rather average overall. The characters still look similar to their VN counterparts. The animation has no major dips in quality and while nothing spectacular doesn't disappoint either.

Sound: The music used for Meikyuu was very good. The music used during the more emotional scenes really captured the feeling of what the scenes were trying to portray. The same can be said about the more upbeat scenes as well.

Characters: The main focus is Yuuji while the majority of other characters take a back seat. Since the story focus on him he of course has a large amount of character development throughout the episode. The other characters in the episode are all described mainly from Yuuji's perspective. I think the episode does a great job at portraying his back story

Enjoyment: As a fan of the VN I really enjoyed this adaption..
