Photon: The Idiot Adventures
フォトンPhoton Earth is a young and gentle boy with superhuman strength and "Baka" (meaning "idiot" in Japanese) scribbled on his forehead (apparently by his troublemaking friend Aun Freya). One day, he finds himself engaged to the beautiful fugitive pilot Keyne Acqua after writing "baka" on her forehead. And that's the least of his worries as he must protect both Aun and Keyne from the evil Papacharino, who seeks to steal the secrets of "Aho" (another word for idiot) energy from Keyne's grandfather's ship. I'm jazzed to be the first review for Photon: The Idiot Adventures because it's quite a good OVA for its time. Photon is basically as dumb as a box of rocks, but he's got a heart of gold, absolutely ridiculous strength, and a cool power pole to boot. The other main character is Aun, a little girl who may or may not have a crush on Photon, but she acts indifferent and verbally abuses him to hide it. She writes the word 'stupid' on his forehead as punishment for his denseness, and later, Photon writes the word 'stupid' for whatever reason on a sleeping beauty he finds. That beauty is an alien named Keyne, and in her culture, the act of writing your name on the forehead is considered an act of betrothal.
(Photon, Aun, and Keyne)
Keyne wakes up to become Photon's fiancee, but finds herself the target of a fiendish alien lord named Papacharino Nanadan, who's also a bit haughty. The show follows their events escaping from Papacharino with Photon's brute strength, and his plots to capture Keyne. I'm probably selling it short because there's a lot of fun stuff that happens along the way, and the beginning theme is an absolute treat to listen to. Clocking in at only 6 episodes, you might think that this one wraps itself up rather quickly, but rest assured each one is pretty packed with fun times and charm.
