Insul's Challenge: Princess Nine

Hyakawa Ryo, age 15, arrives on scene in her magic rainbow painted short bus to save the game as star pitcher for the Japanese Tigers (I don't think that's the actual name) who are getting their asses handed to them by the scummiest baseball players I've ever seen. What happens next is a miracle of God as Ryo (pronounced by everyone as just plain YO) strikes out the remaining batter and earns her alcoholic friend 10 bottles of sake, as was the bet he made with the other team.

Enter the bar scene where Ryo is helping her mom and who appears but Michael Chiklis and his long-haired deviant friend. They start insulting Ryo, her mom, and the present members of the Japanese Tigers and then someone in response to Chiklis unleashes the greatest line ever: HEY YOU CHROME DOME

The show is about as 90s as it gets. You see girls wearing blue jeans that go way over their hips, the opening song is similar to a horrible talk show intro, and of course, I couldn't find anything with a resolution higher than a CRT TV.

The story is a classic archetype though, cute talented girl, dead daddy, mom runs a bar with the main customer being the team alcoholic, and the ever so mysterious robotic-chairwoman (no, really, she talks like a god damn robot) tries to recruit the cute talented girl to use her talents at the most prestigious japanese high school where she will overcome some kind of challenge and date the cutest boy or some shit. I haven't watched that far.

I only regret that it was dubbed. See, the thing about dubbed shows that I feel rings truth is that the voice dubbers don't have the passion that the Japanese actors have. It just feels like another job that needs doing and has no emotion, hence robot chairwoman.
