StoryFate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works Episode 0 functions as a introduction into the anime adaption of the Unlimited Blade Works route of the Fate/stay night visual novel, which was produced by Type-Moon in 2004.
As such the episode established the overall setting while leaving many details open for the actual series.
Even though I really enjoyed it, viewers with no knowledge of the Fate/stay night universe might feel a little lost.
Animation
I for one am a sucker for high quality animation and Ufotable is a promising producer considering their past works.
As much as the show shines in pretty much every aspect, it is the animation that really kept me on the edge of my seat. The animation is beautiful, the backgrounds are gorgeous and the the fight scenes where probably some of the best I have seen to date.
Sound
I always really liked the music of Fate/stay night, and this series is no exception. The voiceacting is top notch, and (as a fan of Nakata Jouji) it was awesome hearing Kotomine Kirei's voice again :)
Characters
As the show follows the Unlimited Blade Works route of the visual novel, the story focuses mainly on Rin Tohsaka and her heroic servant, Archer.
Nothing unexpected here, if you are familiar with the plot of the visual novel.
Enjoyment
So, did the show manage to live up to the enormous hype that kept building up since its first announcement a while back? Well, considering this was only the first episode I can obviously not give a final answer to that question yet. However, it really was a great introduction into the series and I never once felt bored while watching it, and I am really excited to see more of this promising work. Good job, Ufotable! Consider me hooked!
