First off: I love this OVA. Gundam Unicorn is one of the greatest Gundam animation to grace the (theatrical) screen.

One of the main points of Unicorn is that it ties the entirety of Universal Century up till UC 0096, which includes the following major events:

- The Rise of Zeon.
- One Year War.
- Gryps Conflict.
- First and Second Neo Zeon Wars.

Gundam Unicorn itself is considered a major event as it ties two concurrent conflicts into its 7-episode OVA:
- LaPlace Conflict.
- Third Neo Zeon War.

To add on, you do not need to watch the past UC series to understand the plot in Unicorn - which revolves around a certain object called the LaPlace Box which governs the status quo of the Universal Century and the conflicts it brought about.

But, if you do have prior knowledge on the UC series, you will be able to catch just about every references present: from the colony remains of Operation British, to the recurring characters like Bright Noa and Mineva.

The battle sequences in this series are also spectacular. Just as with prior UC series, grunt combatants have proven to be quite capable, some even go as far as to take on the main characters themselves like the Stark Jegan in the first episode.

Overall, I like it. It ties up quite a few loose ends and, as I mentioned earlier, you don't need to watch the past UC series to understand it... Rather, if you put it in reverse and watch Unicorn then the past UC shows, it would help you understand the interests and consequences by both Zeon and Federation sides in their wars.

What can I say. Gundam !!! This is probably the most famous Mecha franchise ever. The story is amazing. Amazing mecha fights, and you will enjoy it even if you haven't seen the first Gundam from 1979. It is just EPIC.

I wish the end was the such one which is
1) colony laser fires.

2) unicorn unfolds psycho field emphasized by psycho frame.

3) but fails to defend colony laser.

4) unicorn, bancy(spell?), Industrial7, megarania(spell?) vanished.

5) fa...? What a bad end all die.

But this one is more impressive.

If Tomino -another name's 'Exterminator' who is the originator of Gundum-  wrote, he might do so...

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn continues from a few years after Char's Counterattack ends. The story revolves around a 'Laplace's Box' that could supposedly destroy the Federation because of a dark secret it contains. The RX-0 Gundam Unicorn is the "key" to this box, and Banagher Links, the pilot to this key.

Story-wise, the plot is very deep. It successfully manages to keep you gripped until the end of the last episode. All the elements are woven in very carefully and precisely. A few segments could have been better executed, but they are very good nonetheless. A lot of scenes had emotional ramifications, both for the characters and for the viewer. Laplace's box is well-hidden until the climax.

The animation of this show will make your jaw drop. If you thought Gundam 00 was well animated, Unicorn takes it a notch higher. Characters express their emotions rather vividly with their expressions very accurately conveying the message. Lots of well animated conflicts of mecha proportions!

The soundtrack composed for this show is very, very appropriate. The music is timed perfectly with the scenes and the composer needs a huge round of applause for eking out the best from every scene.

The protagonist is developed rather well across the seven episodes. Surprisingly, for the number of characters that are introduced in the show, most of the major supporting cast also gets a fair amount of character development. Although, one character could have been better developed. His plot felt really rushed.

I really enjoyed watching the show and so it deserves full marks for entertainment.

Overall, it's worth the 7.5 hours you spend watching it.

STORY

I am a HUGE fans of the Gundam Series, and this one have by far the best story line. If you never watched Gundam before, this anime is about two groups which are spacenoids and earthnoids, then divided again to smaller groups because of conflicts from the previous series. Gundam Unicorn is mostly filled with mecha battles, but does have a great backstory and also a very smooth story. For those who have watched previous Gundam series especially the Universal Centuries, this story is set 3 years after Char's Counterattack and 27 years before F91. It's about finding Laplace Box, the remains of the 1 year war that can change the world depending who got hold of it, so it's a race between Londo Bell and Neo Zeon.

ANIMATION

Due to the late release since the last universal century series, the animation of gundam series has developed ever since. Gundam Unicorn have a very smooth and good animation, especially during the robotic fights and scenes, the character designs are mostly similar to the older series only more detailed and better animation. However, the anime mostly have the same color throughout the whole series, the lighting apart from sparks in the battle is very weak, and it's to shady too.

SOUND

Ah, dat awesome background music. Though it's a continuation of the old gundam series, the OST is much better now, so great it might surpasses Gundam 00 OSTs. These OSTs are all exciting during the battles and is variable too, with many styles even though the general music is actually similar. On the other hand, there were no opening songs! Which kinda sucks, and most of the ending songs were quite boring too.

CHARACTER

I personally like the antagonist, Full Frontal, much more than the protagonist, Banagher Links. This is because even though they are your average anime characters, for me and other gundam fans who have watched the older gundam series, Full Frontal highly signifies Char Aznable, a long-lost antagonist of the main Gundam series, who is a pro pilot and also he also does a very very good job as an antagonist. However, there were almost no character development, most of the characters stayed the sam throughout the anime except Banagher Links who learns about the enemy's goals and that guy (spoiler).

ENJOYMENT

Personally for me, I really enjoy this anime, not only because I am a gundam fan, but also because this is an excellent anime! So for those who haven't watch the previous gundam series, I really suggest you to watch the previous series first, but I still recommend you to directly watch this if you are lazy to watch the previous ones, because you WILL still get the point of the story, only probably you want have enough background knowledge to understand some "gundam-related-vocabs", but don't worry! Trust me this anime is worth it! For those who watched the previous series and enjoyed them a lot, well.. this one is gonna blow your mind ;)
