in my humbre opinion this was a very cute series, this second season is a bit weaker than the first but have some stronger moments. I really recommend it.

A high school drama with some of the most well-written and realistic characters I’ve seen both in and out of anime. Anyone who has ever been apart of large extracurricular activities (band, sports, debate club, ect.) will likely find at least one story arc to be hauntingly relate-able.

Kyoto Animation is a studio with a fairly divisive reception; the show’s skills at making visually impressive shows is undeniable, but their various productions either have the community celebrating or rolling their eyes towards the ceiling, complaining about how the old days in anime were the best days and how anime has been ruined forever. And then you have people who simply wouldn’t give the slice of life genre the time of day, thinking that the entire genre is substance-less and a waste of time.

The second season of Hibike Euphonium is a case where it becomes very evident just how shallow the preconceptions I mentioned in the previous paragraph really are; the show manages to tell a compelling, heartwarming coming of age story with incredible subtlety, and the results are great.

There really isn’t a point to talking about the story and characters separately, as they are more or less one and the same in this particular show. The show continues being character-driven much like the previous season, also continuing its development of the main leads. This attention is the core of the second season, as the characters continue to develop past the various conflicts they confront, ranging from questioning the point of even playing music to band members clashing with each other over events in the previous season as well as a lot of romance. A lot of side characters whose development in the first season is left on a basic level are fully fleshed out and given backdrops.

Artwork is stellar, with even background characters standing out with individual designs that are memorable, to say nothing of the gorgeous backgrounds. Animation quality is absolutely beautiful, with no wasted movements and next to no still frames; also worth mentioning is the amazing directing, paying attention to subtle changes in the characters (Asuka in particular) was incredibly satisfying and overall enhanced the experience greatly.

If a flaw has to be named, however…it’s the fact that there are a couple of episodes early on that fall into the trap of dragging out too long for their own good (the first episode was guilty of this especially).

Overall, however, it has been an incredibly enjoyable experience with very few flaws and a slice of life show that’s very much worth watching. I highly recommend it.

Thank you very much for reading, any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Kyoani is back with another masterpiece.

Story: 10

A great story that tells the struggles and enjoyment of being in band. An amazing squeal to the first season. Not only does it do an amazing job of leaving room for season 3, but it also has done a great job of wrapping up the show in a way that really feels satisfying.

Animation: 10

Beautifully designed characters with amazing animations brought by kyoani. Amazing shots are used to really capture the important moments and the animations of the instruments are nearly spot on. Each shot seems to be gold in the way kyoani uses these shots.

Sound/Music: 10

As expected by an anime created by Kyoto Animation about band Hibike Euphonium 2 is jam packed with an amazing OST by Matsuda, Akito that really makes you hit the feels in the show.

Character: 10

Each individually character has a unique personality and as the story progresses a big portion of them are developed and really well shaped. Kyoani does a very good job as to the rate as which everyone is developed and shaped.

Overall: 10

Overall each episode really felt like a satisfying end or cliff hanger that will really make you want more of this anime. I love this anime and an very excited for whats next.
