Now let me explain myself XD Me and a couple of friends of mine do a weekly thing known as an "Anime Binge" and during the first binge my friends said "We have to show him Sleeping with Hinako"...I had no idea what they were referring to at first...and I have no regrets in watching this. If you want an anime that is actually good...then turn away and run...but...if you want an anime that you and your friends just want to take the piss out of then THIS...IS...THE SHIT! It has no story other than for this Hinako girl sleeping...for some reason the creator found it needed to give her some kind story that she is a soldier or something which has no correlation to the story of her sleeping but that's besides the point. The sound honestly is fairly good...if you could consider gently snoring and rustling as premium but hey...its the only thing that you can fix your mind on to avoid madness. But with all that being said...this has become truly one of the best inside jokes for me and my friends! It was so mind-fumblingly mental that this thing happened that it just made us break down in laughter! I won't spoil any of the jokes but trust me...I will just say this...if you and a few friends get your kicks from seeing the stupidest anime's ever that really are just the most random things...then this will become a premium inside joke for you...be warned though...Once Lord Hinako has you...there is no running away...o-oh god! she is here...ahhhhh!!fpdsgfdoyhjawrasfmjnushrshASFDASTGDSASFGSfsdghfs

If I had to give Sleeping with Hinako credit for one thing, it's that it's literally the most honestly titled anime - it's literally a girl sleeping for the majority of the OVA, with some dream sequences to break up the "action".

The only areas that are 5s instead of 1s are the animation and sound - but that's because they happen to be average.  Nothing else.

There is no story.  I can't talk about that.

Character...what character? Oh, you mean the boobs named Hinako? She wasn't a character.

I obviously didn't enjoy this.  Do I have a problem with fanservice? No. But in all the other fanservice heavy animes that I've watched, there was at least something else there - sure, the fanservice may have been the biggest thing there, but this anime didn't even have something else to justify watching it.

Seriously, WHO is the target audience for this?

The anime medium has come far in the last few decades with new ways of storytelling through animation. However, Sleeping with Hinako is here to put them all to shame. In this science fiction dystopian world, Hinako, a real person has been thrown into the world of anime.

Much like Neon Genesis Evangelion, along with her crew, they must fight off the creatures invading their lands. However, this is all information from the prequels, Training with Hinako and Bathtime with Hinako. We learn there that these fighters are able to control condensed forms of energy and even fire it at their opponents, brutally destroying them in a single shot.

So how does this tie into the sequel, Sleeping with Hinako? Well, it doesn't.

I first came to this film expecting nothing but a moe girl sleeping, but that was only the first layer of this multilevel narrative. In her mind we recount her last few months, from organizing a dance competition to save her local community center from being torn down by an evil corporation bent on ruling local culture. I was amazed to see this film discuss the cultural differences between the east and the west and their implicatíons on life for civilians as well as the economical structure of businesses. Hinako interacts with many quirky characters, all representations of various classes and backgrounds. I particularly enjpyed the characters motifs, including the antagonists, they all see themselves as heroes on one way pr another. Without spoiling too much, we dp learn of poor Hinako's terminal illness and her struggles to keep it from her friemds as she fears how it could effect her relationships with her family and peers. The animation is very Shimbo-esque, with visual metaphors over exposition. With a score by Yuki Katura you can already tell this movie has a score to meet all the genre its reaching out to. This gem is by far one of the greatest animated features I have ever seen, you will not regret watching.

Oh sorry it appears I was actually watching the movie 'crash'.

...

what the hell. is this is just a girl sleeping for half an hour?

There is so much I need to say about this yet so little to say.

Sleeping with Hinako is an OVA about sleeping with Hinako… it is pretty self-explanatory. This is the second OVA in the series. One thing I have to commend Sleeping with Hinako for is the consistency of the animation.

With all that said and done we’ll start looking at the show.

STORY (1/10)

I would be a liar if I said this didn't have some kind of progression. This is a story about your night with Hinako, most of the time she is sleeping but when she isn’t sleeping she is talking and doing other things. Since you are watching her sleep for a majority of the time it means you must have some sort of special relationship with her, so there is that and you make advancements in your relationship with her through the duration of the OVA. A whole lot of nothing happens during the time, you see Hinako sleep in different positions and there are over 50 panty-shots! She sometimes has dreams that you can see visually and that part is pretty interesting. The ending is probably the best part of the anime.

ANIMATION (2/10)

(example of Hinako 1)

The animation is nothing special. It isn't very good either. The frames do change though, that is something but it might just be a pan or tilt, the sliding of an image. There are also a variety of different shots of the room and Hinako, that includes close ups of her panties, breasts and face. As for the actual animation most of it is just the subtle movement of Hinako when she breaths while she is sleeping. There are also a couple of variations of some scenes, like when she gets up to check her weight in a dream.

SOUND (2/10)

(example of Hinako 2)

Sleeping with Hinako does have two or three songs to contribute to the soundtrack and they fit the anime perfectly. During the first song it was almost like it was made to put me to sleep too. That is the only one I really remember because the songs were heard few and far apart but a good touch was the sound of Hinako sleeping. Her snoring gave you the feeling that she was faking sleep which she was for most of it. Her voice actor did a great job at capturing Hinako's personality. Over the songs there is nothing really good about the sound department.

CHARACTER (1/10)

(example of Hinako 3)

There are really only two characters in this anime. Those characters are you and Hinako. You don’t actually see yourself in the anime, it is more of a first-person perspective thing but I gathered that you are a nice person but you seem to lack some very primal instincts. I doubt most people would go over to their girlfriend’s house just to watch her sleep and kiss her once; I think there would be more cuddling and stuff. Anyway, you aren’t really an important character. The important one is Hinako. At the very start we see that she was playing a DS game and she was pretty bad at it so she isn’t much of a gamer. She cares somewhat cares about her body; she is really reluctant to check her weight on the scales. Another thing is that she likes or loves you so she must be your girlfriend. I don’t think she’d put on such an active display of sleeping if you weren’t around. So there is a couple of things we learn about Hinako in this OVA.

ENJOYMENT (1/10)

I can’t say that I did enjoy this anime. It was more of a chore and I don’t like chores, especially when they are something I have watched. The thing is that 90% of the time Hinako was sleeping, tossing and turning or doing other things related to sleeping. For around 50 minutes of time it is really a waste and this anime doesn’t really try to engage the viewers at all. While there were the two things I enjoyed about the anime they do not make this enjoyable.

There aren’t many strong points to this anime and those strong points were very minor. This is easily one of the most uninteresting pieces I’ve seen so far. While I’ve seen others that were bad they actually had some development and something good in most of the areas. This has zero. The two songs were good and the ending was good. When I mean ending I mean the 2-5 minutes before the ending and the ending.

If you ever want something to torture yourself or your friends with then Issho ni Sleeping: Sleeping with Hinako is a perfect candidate for that.

A Short Review of: Sleeping with Hinako

Every once and awhile, you come across an anime that you don't have any expectations for. Why that is? Well, it could be for a many number of reasons. For this show, it was that I'd never even heard about it until 50 minutes ago.

Enter the world of Sleeping with Hinako: an anime that is the definition of underrated. It's the type of show that most people would just ignore-- the kind of show that just slowly fades into the background, whilst everyone watches god damn Attack on Titan; which I guess is fair enough...

It's just sad when that anime turns out to be a hidden masterpiece.

Sleeping with Hinako is an anime that completely broke my view of anime. Not only did it have some of the best writing I've ever had the pleasure of seeing, but it had some of the best EVERYTHING I've ever seen. -> The characters, the writing, the memorable moments, the music and the animation; Not one cent went to waste.

With such a short runtime, it's hard to believe that the characters developed so well.

One of the best parts of this show is definitely the character development; as Hinako starts out as a hyper energetic girl, but slowly becomes quieter and quieter as the show goes on. It's character development like this, that makes this an absolute joy to watch. Hinako as a character is also very likable, due to the viewer being able to sympathise/relate with the issues that fall onto her.

The writing in this show interests me quite a bit, due to how the world of the show works. It lets the viewer feel like they're part of the world and can actually teach the viewer a few things. I'm sorry for being vague about this point, but it's something you'll have to see to believe.

The animation fits the themes of the show perfectly and portrays a realistic look at if this situation was presented in a live action format. The sound compliments this, with music that fits the mood perfectly. The only real problem I can see is that the fanservice camera angles can get a little intrusive at times, but if you can get over that, it's a wonderful experience for your eyes.

All and all, Sleeping with Hinako is an underrated gem in the land of anime. In fact, I'd go so far to say that this is one of the best anime ever made. I give it: 10/10 and a well deserved recommendation and place in my favourites.

(This is literally just a girl sleeping for 40 minutes... CANWENOTANIMECOMMUNITY)

Yep I watched both episodes...

How does the second one measure up?

Somehow they actually found a way to make you even more bored than watching a girl do situps and pushups. She sleeps in this one.

Still not hentai, so if that's what your looking for... well it certainly isn't this. In fact, the first one is more ecchi than this is.

I gave the first one better points for animation because she was actually moving around. Yes, it was the same action over and over, but it still was movement. Here she only barely moves - a slight parting of the lips, a deep sigh. etc. As such, animation score took a dive, she's still colored and I've seen worse depictions of girls out there, but well... she's barely moving.

since animation and humor (at the shows expense) were all that the first one had going for it, and since I found neither in this second installment. The measly 2 of 10 the first one gets, manages to dive down to a 1/10.

congratulations?
