Durarara!! x2

デュラララ!!×2 承

Although peace has finally returned to Ikebukuro, many of the odd occurrences have become common sights around the city. One such case is the police's constant pursuit of Celty Sturluson, the Headless Rider. Moreover, someone has placed a large bounty on her, igniting the motivation of gang members all over to begin searching for the supernatural creature as well. Meanwhile, Mikado Ryuugamine is approached by Aoba Kuronuma, a mysterious underclassman with unknown intentions, who reveals that he knows Mikado's true identity. But Ikebukuro's state of tranquility is short-lived, as a new threat appears in the form of a murderer who goes by the pseudonym "Hollywood," known for wearing a different mask each time they commit a crime. As the various events taking place prove to be connected yet again, Ikebukuro is thrown into another conflict that threatens to engulf the entire city in chaos. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Durarara!!x2 is the second season of Durarara!! based off the light novels of the same name. Durarara!! was special because of its interesting characters and combining modern gang aspects with supernatural aspects. Does the second season hold that same feeling?

Story:

Durarara!!x2 takes place in modern day Ikebukuro and for the most part follows noteworthy members of the Dollars gang. This season follows 2 story lines that intertwine. One that follows Shizuo as he gets intertwined with a plot concerning the mafia and assassins; and another that follows Mikado as he struggles with controlling his own gang. There is another plot in the beginning concerning a serial killer but is quickly forgotten. These stories do not intertwine well as all the times they do seem forced. Also compared to the first season the plots are far less interesting. Where in the original there would be many twists and turns to keep interest, the plot in this one feels either predictable or simply awkward. This series also loses the interesting supernatural aspect that the first series did. The plots involving the mystery of dullahans and the saika blade had some shock to it are treated as everyday life but it feels unrealistic. they also add almost nothing new to the supernatural and instead focus on the gangs which in this series didn't feel that powerful. The first series made the gangs feel large and powerful, this series made the gangs feel far smaller. Though it gives more of a focus on the more interesting characters, It loses the originals feeling of scope that belonged to the gangs.

Animation:

The animation is fine in this series but it doesn't feel special. Compared to the original you will probably not notice much difference but it still does not impress. It does feels a bit slow at times but it will not bother you.

Sound:

The opening and endings of the series are fitting to say the least. With the direction that the show was going this season they were good but, because I'm strung up on it, I still feel the ones in the original were better. thought with the direction that the show was going using those openings would be fit the tone as well. Having had watched the dub I felt the dub was great. I'm still not a fan of Darrel Guilbeau and Bryce Papenbrook annoys me, not for this, he was great, just in general. All the new characters were also well casted (suprised Troy Baker didn't voice Matt mercer's character in the first season). Just wished we could've gotten more JYB, in my opinion this is ibjectively his best role.

Characters:

Put simply there was barely any character development at all. the only characters that had any development were Mikado and barely Shizuo. Of the new characters there is Pop star with a dark power, a scheming youngster who will go to great measures to get what he wants and a gang leader who will do what it takes as long as woman doesn't get hurt. The show manages not only to not flesh them out to a satisfying degree but makes them really boring or not worth caring about. There's also a hot Russian assassin who was cool so she's a great addition. There are literally characters who decide they weren't interesting enough as kids so they put some cliques in a hat and pulled them out to decide their personalities for the rest of their lives.

Overall:

As a second season, Durarara!!x2 does its job but it doesn't do anything to make it stand out. The story takes the worst of the original, the addition to characters is lacking but I cannot say it is bad on its own. Here's hoping that the second half of the season fills that need.

Three things

1. Ending
2. Mikado is no longer a wimp
3. DURARARA!

This season has become more Self-Thinking-Voiced !! ... and of Course this kind of Smart Drama is Really Interesting and Enjoyable 'cause you can never Blink so you could miss something ! ... and the Most Intelligent Part is the how the Story is Half-Reversed !! ... I mean it's really Crazy to see something Shocking Suddenly and you don't know HT* has it happened ! so, ... it takes less than 5 minutes for the Events Declaring so everything becomes Clear !! ... it was really a Smart Move here !! ... ^_^
Now as a Favorite Anime Type of Mine ... the Characters are really Amazing and Interesting ... and I mean All-Of-Them !! ... A lot of Different Half-Supernatural-Boys and Girls !! ... sometimes Special Skills !! ... and the Scenario is really Deep that you would get Confused and Impressed while your mind is Analyzing Dark-Thoughts and Bright-Manners at the same time !! ... ^_^
So, it was Multiplayered Uniquely !! ... and Transferring between all these Characters was a Brilliant move too ... as it takes the whole Beauty of [ Baccano! ] and Enhances it to suit the Today's-Tokyo-Dramatic-Anime look-like ... ^_^
I really did like it ... and Enjoyed it 'till the End ... waiting for another to Come !! ... ^_^

[The following are thoughts on the show and the entire review will be released upon the series completion]

I am very mixed on the first season of Durarara. It had plenty of strong points, but also plenty weak. My main issue with it was the introduction of interesting characters (Izaya, Shizuo, Celty, Shinra) but instead the second half of the show decided to focus on the characters I didn’t care about and completely sidelines that suspenseful plot regarding Celty’s head and Izaya’s mischiefs. Don’t even get me started on that awful Saika arc…

But we’re hear to talk about season 2, and oh what great impressions! Most of the screentime has been given to Shinra, who constantly breaks the fourth wall (and I love it!), and Shizuo’s brother, who I just keep liking more, and other fun characters. The main characters have been given the least screentime so far (which is a good thing). The opening and ending songs are more like the first ones from season 1, which would easily be on a top ten Op and Ed list if I had one. The amount of references this season has already is through the roof, with nods to popular names such as Baccano, Akira, IaMHS, and many more. My only complaint is that this season is falling victim to a common trend in anime where a character just doesn’t care, and become accepting to a serial character (Elfen Lied, Kara no Kyoukai, etc.). But overall I am very excited for this show to simulcast on saturdays and can’t wait for more!

Durarara is a great anime because of a few reasons such as its uniqueness and it has lots of characters with different backgrounds and stories and then they perfectly match in each others lives with a certain role. The anime is like a piece of puzzle that rearranges itself perfectly and every piece of puzzle fit perfectly. The characters are hilarious such as  the two twin sisters. The sound tracks are one of the best that i have ever heard. I think this anime is definitely worth watching and it has a guarantied enjoyment
