Hunter x Hunter is an enjoyable shounen that definitely surpasses some of its more well-known competitors. There are two versions the 90s version and the 2011 version, I will be reviewing the ladder. In terms of story Hunter x Hunter doesn't try to be massive with it. It keeps it short and relatively simple with every arcs having a different goal and the overall goal being the classic finding so-and-so.

However just because a story isn't deep or profound doesn't mean it isn't good. The story is enjoyable and consistent, with little to no plot holes. What makes the story good is not what's going to happen but how its going to happen. There are few major fights in the anime but they are all memorable, mostly because they are all very different from one another. The fights feel more like a chess game and not just over power the enemy. Only one fight really was disappointing but thank goodness it was a joy to watch not that its a redemption for falling flat though.

Animation is nothing super unique but still its far from hard to watch, its nicely done but it has no real distinct flare. The ost and opening is well done but nothing I would download in my spare time however all the ending songs are some of my favorite anime endings. Now for the characters, this is majority the reason why Hunter x Hunter is so good. The show the main protagonist and three others it follows as main characters along with these however we have the reoccurring villains and the supporting characters in every arc.

The four protagonist are excellently done, Gon the main character is probably the most flat but watching him interact with all the different characters in the show adds more depth to his character as the show goes on. Leorio also mirrors this a bit as well when first introduced his a flat but has stunning growth and by the end of the show he feels almost like a different character at times. Some of Leorio's final moments almost brought me to tears.

Killua and Kurapika are both characters that felt deep when when first introduced. When Killua is first introduced he truly is a character that peaks great interest and as you learn about him you just want to know more. He is a well done character that has internal conflicts that at time make the show. Kurapika is similar where he has depth to him however he is more of a tease as he doesn't get as much screen time as the others dues to having only one character arc and then he disappears from the story only leaving you craving more. The reoccurring villains specifically Hisoka and Illumi  are well done too, great to watch and they feel like a true threat but never feeling over powered or impossible to beat. They have aspirations of there own and they aren't enemies of the world or direct adversaries to the protagonists but just characters whose goals/interests happen to conflict with the protagonist.

I would go into the spider troupe but they really weren't seen enough to give proper judgment on but they were never boring to watch in fact there presence brought a true feeling of fear and tension to the scene. The supporting character were interesting as well but they weren't all that deep. not that they needed to be but sometimes it would spend too much time on them when you know these characters don't really matter in the long tern of the show.

I enjoyed this show very much it saddens me when i remember its over. All in all this show isn't over yet and endings play a big part in every story, the manga still ongoing but when it comes to the animes it is truly amazing.
