Love Live! Sunshine!!

ラブライブ!サンシャイン!!

Chika Takami, a self-proclaimed normal girl, has never been involved in any clubs and lacked any notable talents. However, after a visit to Tokyo, she discovers a stage where even an ordinary girl like her could shine—the world of school idols. Inspired by the former superstar school idol group μ's, Chika is determined to start her own school idol club in her seaside hometown at Uranohoshi Girl's High School. But even before gathering any students to join the group, the aspiring school idol finds her greatest obstacle to be student council president Dia Kurosawa who stands firmly against the creation of the club. Just when it seems there is no hope, Chika meets Riko Sakurauchi, a transfer student from Otonokizaka High School, home of μ's. Somewhat shy but a talented piano player, Chika believes her to be a promising recruit, though convincing her to join is easier said than done. In spite of that, Chika chooses to charge forward and overcome the obstacles keeping her from forming a school idol group that shines as bright as the nine that came before her. when chika you and riko put on their first concert and the curtain comes up and only a handful of people are there and it looks like its gonna be a repeat of that scene from love live and then they start performing and the power goes out but chika keeps singing anyway and then she breaks down crying………. and then dia turns on the backup generator in secret and then the lights come back on AND THE WHOLE HALL IS FILLED OUT AND THEY GIVE AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE…… saddest/best moment in anime history

[Spoilers of cause]

To start off let me just express I don't agree with them copying most of the elements from U's but that was the point of the sunshine story. It was chika thinking they could copy U's from the start and be just as successful but as the season progresses they learn that isnt that case and they have to be unique to themselves.

The story it self is good, with each episode they recruit a new member and help that new members character develop in a nice relaxing way.

Animation is also on point, with some excellent environmentally shots for what you expect in an SoL. There is some moments where you can tell where they've tried to be cheap and cost efficient but they are minor and few

Overall its worth watching even if you're not an Idol fan

The story follows a group of 9 girls as they embark on a journey to from their own school idol group "Aquors" and compete in a nation wide school idol competition known as "Love Live".

There is a lot to be said about this particular installment to the franchise, much of which is delves deep within spoiler territory. So if you haven't seen the series yet, its best to turn away now.

Previous seasons of this franchise are not what you would consider masterful story telling. While, the music itself was the centerpiece of the show. The story focused more on the characters, and their journey to achieve a clear and concise goal. With the massive success this franchise has achieved, one would think they would have put more thought into this installment and have a new story for the new group of girls.

Unfortunately as far as story is concerned, Love Live! Sunshine! falls short. Although it is expected that the Love Live! competition would be the end goal. A majority of this season is spent on callbacks or references to the original. There is some meaningful backstory to the 3rd years and their reasons for joining or not wanting to join the group, but it is the only original idea this series has to offer. Other than that, many of the elements from the original are recycled. This Includes the school shutting down, the rival group, HELL, there is even an attempt at a shot for shot remake of the "START:DASH" scene from the original (although with a different outcome). Since the new group takes a lot of inspiration from µ's, alot of the internal conflict is derived from self comparison to them and weather or not they are cut out to be idols. I gets quite frustrating as it happens often, to the point where it almost feels like the show is constantly comparing itself to the original. I wish I could say that these elements from the story were the only thing that was borrowed, but that would be a lie.

All but one of girls from the group feel like straight copies from the girls in µ's. With the exception that some personality traits were swapped around. By far the biggest offender is the lead Chika, which feels like a straight copy of Honoka. The interaction between the girls can be funny at times, but other than a few lines (i.e. "its joke") there is nothing all that memorable. Given how much time the series spent on call back or references at the start, most of the girls get shafted when it comes to character development. Kanan most noticeably, as she doesnt really make an appearance till the near end of the series. That said, Chuuni Girl (Yohane), was the only one out of the bunch that seemed the most original and most memorable. As lack luster as the story and characters have been, there are other aspects to this show where this show does shine.

The Love Live! franchise has come a long way, and the animation is where its most noticeable. Before, especially during the live shows, the transition between CG and 2D elements would be jarring. Now, its hardly noticeable. Though I do think the character designs lack personality, but that is just me being nit-picky about it. As far as set pieces go, they are beautiful. That said as far as animation goes, there is nothing much to complain about.

As with its predecessor, the music is the centerpiece of this show, and just as expected, this is a category this show excels at. The new Aquors songs manage to retain some of that same vibe µ's had. Each of the new 9 girls harmonize greatly together, so much so, that it can be a bit difficult to differentiate between the individual voices. Though that just might be a lack of having listened to the songs enough. (µ's is still better though, fight me ;P )

I've always been a pessimist, especially with spin-offs or sequels to a successful series. As often is the case that they either don't live up to the original, or they are just a quick cash grab at a successful series. I tried my best to put that pessimism aside, and hoped that Sunshine! would be able recreate that same magic and charm that made me fall in love with the original. (tad bit embarrassing to admit)
Sadly, it didnt.

Though I don't doubt Aquors will be a commercial success. Sunshine! doesn't quite live up to the original. I wouldnt say that the series itself is terrible; Im just disappointed at how it turned out.

I was hoping that μ's would show up, but what i got was a weak story with some charming characters.

I don't know how to feel bout this. on one hand they do, do other stuff like work at a aquarium but on the other hand
1) the main character is so insufferable i legit want to kill her

2) most of the side characters are better suited for the main role

3) No improvement where it comes to the music  since the promo pv were put out

4) the Love live copy paste faces just change the eyes  is back

5) "Zaza" or  "zawa" Just no.Also  that chuunibyou girl she cool and all but no.

They could have kept this
