Heavy Object
ヘヴィーオブジェクトIn the distant future, the nature of war has changed. "Objects"—massive, spherical tanks impermeable to standard weaponry and armed with destructive firepower—rule the battlefield; their very deployment ensures victory, rendering traditional armies useless. However, this new method of warfare is about to be turned on its head. Qwenthur Barbotage, a student studying Object Design, and Havia Winchell, a radar analyst of noble birth, serve in the Legitimate Kingdom's 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion, tasked with supporting the Baby Magnum, one of the nation's Objects. Unfortunately, a battle gone awry places the duo in a precarious situation: mere infantry stand face-to-face against the unfathomable might of an enemy Object. As they scramble to save themselves and their fellow soldiers, a glimmer of hope shines through, and the world's perception of Objects is changed forever.Heavy Object follows these two soldiers alongside Milinda Brantini, the Baby Magnum's pilot, and their commanding officer Frolaytia Capistrano as the unit treks all over the globe to fight battle after battle. Facing one impossible situation after another, they must summon all their wit and courage to overcome the insurmountable foes that are Objects. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This series do give a lot of background information and explaining certain factors during the show. However, there are still flaws in this series but they also have several unique points. The following are the pros and con I believe the series have.
Pros
All characters have animations.
Great sound usage
Detail Explanations
All characters have unique background
Cons
Story is too centered towards the main characters
Main characters never dies
Unrealistic Military
With all that said, let me explain each pros and cons one by one.
Character animations are great, very detailed. Unlike some series, even unimportant characters in the background do get animated. This is always a plus for me at the very least.
Some people will argue with me with the sounds. The sounds in this series actually have some realism to it. Sure, it is not the best but majority of the sounds are well done, especially when listening with surround sound.
This is actually one of the mecha series that can have scientific explanations. Almost everything explained is actually possible. I don't know if such things will be made in near future but it does make it sound possible. Which is a huge plus and it is not just some nonsense.
The last pro is the is characters in the background. They actually do stuff and doesn't just sit back and act pretty like in some anime. This is actually something they will have to put in extra work and I personally think it is always a pro when the studio(s) do it.
Now on to the cons. This series is almost too centered towards the main characters. However, it is not like the support characters doesn't matter, but they revolves around the main. They are the characters which without the main, they will just be another boring generic character.
This next one, main character survives all, is something a lot of people hate a lot. Surviving moments that could have kill or severely injure the main characters have turn into just a scratch. Even if the character is severely injured, he will be alright in a few hours. This brings down the story and character score by a bit for me.
The last one is actually something I can tolerate but it is painful to watch for those who loves military stuff. It did not really effect me with my score but this is something one has to point out.
Even with the cons of this series, it is still very enjoyable series over all. All I can say is J.C. Staff made another great series to their list.

Pretty much... Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other. Not enticing enough? The rest of the time it's pretty much Golden Boy meets war torn wasteland.
Review Disclaimer -- This review is spoiler free
I watch anime in Japanese with subs and typically don't read or have knowledge of the Manga/VN/source material. Personally I enjoy the story elements of anime the most and tend to be pretty biased towards story driven anime of any genre--Action/Adventure being my favorite followed closely by Sci-fi and Fantasy. Anime just brings these themes to life in creative and imaginative ways live action will never compete with. So, anime with a good story I tend to rate above average even if they're lacking in other respects and anime that neglect story I typically rate below average. Based on that bias you should be able to adjust my ratings up or down to conform with your own criteria.
Heavy Object OverviewAired: 2015
Studio: J.C. Staff
Content bias: Character driven (the world tends to revolve around the main characters)
Themes: Sci-fi, Mecha, Military, Ecchi, Harem
Overall Rating: 3/5 -- stream it before you think of buying
Recommendations: Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Full Metal Panic
Story: Plot and Themes
Really isn't any overarching story here (currently 19 episodes in). The main character, Qwenther is a student studying to be an "Object" design engineer. Objects in this world are giant armored, mechanized balls piloted by the genetically engineered elite of society, whom can withstand the g-force inherent to Objects' mobility and have the intellect and talent to multi-task their operation. They're kinda like Gundams, except in this case...
... Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other...
In any case the story is Qwenther and his enlisted army buddy travel around the world in 2-4 episode mini arcs; relying on Qwenther's brains and his buddy's brawn to blow up these indestructible "Objects" as a two man team while adding lovely ladies to his harem as he goes. End of story.
Story: World buildingThe premise behind the world where giant indestructible Objects have reshaped the landscape of wars is interesting but background information on the politics and culture of the world is sorely lacking and never fleshed out. The series spends almost any time its not following Qwenther, talking politics but never gets past the introduction of separate world powers.
Suspension of disbelief is almost impossible every time one of these Objects gets taken down by a two man team when they're supposedly the epitome of war. The show only makes it worse via all of its attempts to emphasize the main characters' achievements were lucky or a fluke multiple times over.
Animation
The whole cast is a bunch of moe girls. Even the main characters, despite them being guys they were drawn to look like moe girls. Moe girls everywhere! Hence...
...Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other...
Kudos to the people who did the CG and backgrounds for this series. Aside from the main cast of moe girls that make all the characters look stupid, the environments were exceptionally detailed and well done. Enjoying all the detailed environment art is half the reason I'm going to make it through this show and that's no small compliment as half the fighting occurs in Alaska or Antarctica when most shows will just turn in a white piece of paper with some hill lines on it.
Sound
Can't complain here, good OP and ED and the soundtrack was great. The music gets you pumped up when you're in a fight and relaxes you after it's over.
CharactersThe character designs are just plain bad for a military series like this. The entire cast looks like it was taken right out of that moe tank girl series or moe war ship series or, whatever... but the characters don't do justice to the creativity of the world and premise of the show. What we end up with is just...
...Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other...
Most of the series revolves around the action, the characters never see much background. The few main cast get maybe 5 mins of development every couple episodes or so. A lot of the series is wasted on the ecchi department's lewd T and A shots.
The most entertaining facet of the characters in this series are the antics and dialogue exchanges between Qwenther, his buddy and their CO. I get that the main characters are kinda perverted but did they really have to go so far as to spin the series around it? Nothing about this show struck me as Golden Boy meets war torn wastelands. Yet, that's what it is when it isn't...
...Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other...
Enjoyment and RecommendationsCome to think of it Qwenther is almost carbon copy of Kintarou from Golden Boy. I guess character tropes are about the best you can expect from a cast when main warriors look like they all belong in the K-On band. In the end too much...
...Moe girls ride giant balls of steel and shoot big guns at each other...
The show is entertaining if nothing else but certainly doesn't strive to be above average in any way. It's an interesting premise but remains nothing more than just that.

We'll here we are again with this season's new(ish) mecha anime, and to be honest, I was kinda holding back from watching this one. Then i decided to give it a try, because I just finished up the latest episode of OPM, and lo' and behold! a meter anime where the meter are not humanoid, because they recognise that the idea is stupid and impractical (revolutionary, I know).
But lets get into the flesh of this anime. Heavy Object gets its main story from the concept of a world where war and combat is standardised to conflicts between enormous "objects" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) where the main character is the unfortunate engineering student caught on the receiving end of a warcrime. struggling to save his allies, he and his best friend become the first infantry squad to destroy a "object" in combat.
The anime used a episodic series of arcs where they go find and destroy multiple "objects" while dealing with political problems (it's still episode 8 so I'm not quite sure about some of this) but all in all a decent concept, that moves away from the standard mecha v mecha fist fights you get in shows like gundam and eva. This was the sort of style that I was hoping for in AoT but that went out the window by episode 5 (not that AoT is a bad anime, I'm just sick of he same old same old titan/mecha v titan/mecha fights we always see).
So its looking pretty good so far; decent story and concept and interesting content. Now to look into the technical side. The main side of the show that is lacking is the characters. As I've seen so far, the charters seems bit lacklustre, they have little personality or original; the main is a tech nerd who is loyal, perverted and dense to a fault, and his best friend is your classic "got-your-back" guy who is also a pervert and is less dense as to see the attraction between the main and the main heroine who is your sexy, young, mecha pilot tsudere chick. There are a few more characters, but they're pretty much there for fan service and convenient plot devices. The animation isn't special, pretty standard for an anime, the voice acting is excellent and overall I enjoyed this anime.
In the end I'd give this one a 3.5-4 out of 10.
