I have to say, that I really enjoyed story and characters as well as the animation style. I had a lot of pleasure watching and enjoyed the kind of humour.
I can't wait for a second season!

Of course as being a lover of demons, supernatural, fantasy, action & romance this show's first episode automatically caught my attention. The first episode fight scene wasn't quite there, but a few quarters around from being epic(close enough, right?) But anyway, it leaves a little emptiness in the story line, it's comedy held it together & managed to hold the episodes together.
But something wasn't quite delivered that seem's was supposed to happen. It's a start of a good plot, but I just felt they could have did more with the characters in the story line sense this is supposed to be a "shounen". But don't fear! I'm not saying this show is bull crap or anything, this show has a healthy plot, it just procrastinated in the last few episodes. It's really colorful, silly, lighthearted, but yet has potential get darker, sense the story line is about a demon king who escaped from his magic world because he was over tooken by a female hero named Emilia.
This show is really cute, easy to get into, funny, relaxing, but still keeps your interest through the fights and quarrels through the 13 episode run. Hopefully they make a second season, I heard rumor of a english dub coming this year (;

A great show, even though it becomes lackluster in the middle to last episodes. It still manages to delivery hilarious moments and a very good time.

Although it starts off strong with hilarious story setup and fresh characters, Hataraku Maou-Sama quickly becomes stale and routine after the first couple of episodes. The classic hero and villain archetypes are largely averted by using a snarky heroine and villain turned hero. Although the classic fish-out-of-water story is used, the story setup makes it interesting with unique twists. Unfortunately the series quickly declines into a wrote and rather bland storyline. Still, the animation is done quite well, and each character's huge repetoir of facial expressions drives the show hilariously forward. The sound is nice too, but can't make up for an unsatisfying plot and ending. Great, but more good than great.

Better than I expected.
Humor is somewhat sparse, given the premise, but generally quite funny when in play. Non-humorous story is enjoyable, but limited in that it can't become too interesting, due to the overall humorous tone.
Animation is fine. Nothing really stood out as excellent or sub-par (except for those crocodiles and such. Those sucked)
Music.... seemed fine. Again, nothing really stood out.
The characters were pretty interesting. Attempts at character drama didn't really work well, due to the overall humorous tone. Can't be mad at someone who killed everyone you love if the setting says that shit should be funny. Can't kill anybody (well, any characters)
I enjoyed it, overall, but the damned thing doesn't end, so that's a huge mark down.

I just finished watching this anime and I have to say I'm really glad I picked it up. I honestly didn't really know what to expect and I think that's what this show excels at. On the cover it really doesn't seem like much. I have seen a bunch of "demon king no yadadadadas" popping up recently and they haven't really gotten a good rep. I can say for sure though this is worth the watch. The humor is the best amount of simple (not entirely too stupid, but still has those classic anime gags you see). The action is good; there's nothing entirely groundbreaking or special about it, but it still looks nice. The characters are great and watching them interact is why the show is enjoyable.I do have some more critical points I want to make. I personally didn't understand the reason for the school episode (Episode ). It seemed like a filler if anything ad they probably could have thought of something more creative and original. But I guess that's fiction for you.Beyond that though I have nothing really terrible to say about the show. I wouldn't say it's one of the bests, but it's great and worth the watch for 13 episodes. This is originally a series of light novels, so be on the look out for a possible season 2 if you're a fan.

After having such a fun time with "Cuticle Detective Inaba" (and, before, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Level E), I was willing to try out more comedy series. Plenty of times I've been blindsided by fanservice and too much generic anime comedy to really enjoy many comedic anime if they didn't have a more action-y plot. I've again hit the jackpot.
Story: Unlike the ones I've listed above, well, Hataraku (which was what my sister and I called it for shortness' sake) had a plot. Like any normal person in real life- and many in the anime- I had suspicion that somehow, someway, sometime, Maou was going to turn bad again. He was trying to take over the world of Ente Isla as Demon King and eventually had to run away from a prophecy-designated half-angel, half-human Hero (Emilia) to Japan, Earth, etc. Emilia runs after them, and Maou doesn't have enough magic to get back, and Emilia can't leave him alone to run amok. SPOILER: You start to believe he might not have been that bad in the first place. After that, it's the hilarious silliness that ensues from a driven MgRonald's employee that happens to be a demon king from another world, and more people from Ente Isla trying to cause trouble. :D More in Character.
Animation: I have this phrase for Sis: Holy Animation Budget! (You know, from Batman memes. The opposite is WTF Happened to the Animation Budget?! From Berserk Abrdiged). In other anime, I see the quality go up and down (*cough*Valvrave*cough*), but I never really felt it in Hataraku. It was all cute, awesome, and expressive. I was especially impressed with the lack of generic anime faces, especially when they really could have used them if they were lazy, but they weren't.
Sound: You know what, didn't really pay attention... The fight scenes were banging, of course.
Character: What really drives a humorous anime are the characters and their interactions. There are a couple of people pretty funny by themselves- like lovestruck Chiho and Lucifer the Bum. But I feel Maou, Emilia and Ashiya are most hilarious when communing with others. The banter between Maou and Emilia, Ashiya and pretty much anybody else really falls into the comedic genre that is both modern and realistic, and doesn't rely on in-your-face tropes or bashes over your head completely ridiculous situations suchlike live-action Disney dilemmas. Plus, the people are really cute, and they never stop being funny, or themselves.
Enjoyment: I think I've gushed enough, but one more point to add. There's fanservice, but I don't think that musclehead Maou is for the guys, and Lucifer is super adorable, so it's all good.
Overall: I say watch it if you enjoy the least bit of comedy. There's not much to dislike.

Somewhere in another world the Demon King is about to become ruler of the entire world, but he is stopped by the hero and is forced to live in Japan. Start comedy of the Spring 2013 season.
This shows main draw is the characters. Just about all of them are exceptionally entertaining, even the ones that tend me be kind of annoying have some truly hilarious moments, especially when you add in their facial expressions.
Many watchers will be pleased by the fact that they show never really goes into full out harem. Although each girl has some level of feelings for the MC, they vary based on their background with him.
I mean obviously the show is a social dialogue on the state of the economy where the great demon king Satan (Sadao) has to work at a McRonalds in order to scrap together rent. Well, maybe that's stretching it a bit. But part of what makes the show great is the setting that it's put in.
The early episodes are clearly better than the ones in the middle. This is kind of problematic because there is a slight decline in quality throughout the series until you get to the ending (which are really good episodes). The comedy is still there and it's still very entertaining, but the funniest character is essentially sidelined. This is not to say the episodes are not bad, they are actually pretty good, but it's like the difference from an A to a B.
The animation is well done and on closer examination looks kind of like a more polished Katanagatari based on how the colors are done and such.
If you want a unique comedy with entertaining characters look no further than this show. It's one of the best that Spring 2013 had to offer.

I just finished all 13 episodes and I have to say, I was very impressed with this show. I think most people assumed this show was going to be another bland and unfunny anime, and I think we were all taken by surprise after the first episode. The best part? The show stays just as good and funny throughout most of the season. This show is funny. Like really funny. This was easily the best comedy this season, and I'll bet it'll end up as the funniest anime this year. There really isn't anything to say about the comedy in this show, besides that it was more clever than I had thought, and that it wasn't just spouting off random jokes 24/7 just to get a good laugh 1 or 2 times. That, along with the fact that the jokes in the show were more "universal" is what puts this show above most comedies like it. Shows like Gintama and Lucky Star can be funny, but only if you are an otaku. This show manages to be funny without every joke feeling like an inside joke and possibly going over your head. In that regard, it felt more like a sitcom (well, one with an actual plot)instead of your usual comedy anime. But probably the most surprising thing about the show was how good the story was. The story on its own won't be winning any awards or anything, but for a comedy anime I was pleasantly surprised with how good the story was. The best part and probably the icing on the cake for why I liked this show so much is because it made me laugh, had a good story, but didn't get overly dramatic like many comedies tend to do and it didn't go overboard with the romance. It is a rare gem indeed to find a show that doesn't fall into that, which is why I like this show so much. But it isn't all gumdrops and ice cream for this show.If I had to point out its flaws, I'd say that the story could get a little side tracked at times, and some episodes just weren't as funny as others. There was an episode or 2 between the two arcs, which weren't as good as the rest of the show, and there was a generic beach episode that wasn't very good either (the beach episode was funny though). I also find it weird that the show never mentions why the Satan himself became such a good person. Honestly, after watching the show I completely forgot he was evil. I suppose it's because he is smart, and acting evil at his job would cause him to get fired, but it doesn't explain all his actions in the show. It isn't the most consistent comedy you'll ever see, but it is one of the few that could make you laugh dozens of times an episode while still having an interesting plot. I should also point out that it had a good ending, and since the last "arc" ended the previous episode, nothing felt rushed or anything and it felt like a normal day. As for the characters, I liked them all, so I don't have any complaints here. Most of the cast didn't get any real development or anything, but I think it is better off like that otherwise it could have gotten too serious for my liking. Besides, these characters will make you laugh every episode, do you really need to know their life story? Admittedly some characters were better than others (Alciel was the funniest character IMO), but they all have their moments and none of them hinder the show in any way. The production values on this show were also good, but nothing out of his world. The score in the show was pretty good, and I liked how it sounded very exotic at times (it felt like music you would hear on Ente Isla). The animation was very smooth, so I have no complaints there either. I would like to mention the faces the characters make throughout the show, as they are some of the funniest expressions I have seen in an anime. Honestly I haven't seen expressions that funny since GTO. Overall, I liked this show a lot, as it was one of the more clever comedies I have seen (hell at times it was even too clever for me). But what really makes it stand out is how it doesn't fall into the traps that other comedy anime tend to fall into like melodrama and cheesy romance. It's a show that stayed true to it's roots, and thats why I'm giving it such a good score. It deserved it. Final Verdict (83/100) - Watch it if you want something very funny, that doesn't go overboard with the drama and romance. It's also a good start for someone who hasn't watched much anime and wouldn't get the otaku jokes in other comedy series.
