Super adorable anime with hot boys and all of the tropes in colour coded flavours, the girl in the story is the usual “cute angsty shy girl” trope that all the boys fall in love with.
ps. Girl has weird alien eyes, cannot be unseen

Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 1000% is your usual reverse-harem/ idol mix where the boys all fall for the one girl, and the girl is completely oblivious to the feelings of the boys and the romance doesn't really get anywhere, (the characters also go through some sort of hardships in the series as well),and sadly the fact that this anime has a usual story type, it sorta made it less enjoyable for me, but if anyone really likes this sorta thing, I suggest you watch this anime.

Now I know what you're thinking. Why should you watch a reverse harem with a bunch of singing bishes when you could go watch K-on, or Love Live. If your a girl, then the answer is pretty obvious, because you want to watch a bunch of decent looking guys sing some pretty good music, or you're looking for yoai material. However as a male watching this what do you want out of it, to be honest I don’t know why, so this is my lazy attempt to condense this show and tell you to watch it, or attest attempt to.
Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love 1000% is the first season to a three season series based off a visual novel by Broccoli. This series was animated by A-1 Pictures who has made Sword Art Online, Blue Exorcist, Magi, and Anohana. This series was directed by Yuu Kou, and written by Tomoko Konparu. It is a 13 episode series with a season 2 also 13 eps, and a season 3 coming in 2015.
STORY
I’m going to be straight out honest, the story isn't that great, but it has so much other charm in it which help it. It knows your not going to watch it for the story. The tale is a reverse harem with one girl, and 6 beautiful bishonen men. The story basically focuses on each one of the guys, some longer than others, letting you get to know their personality and why they create music. The story takes place at this elite music school in Japan, where you study how to create music, or how to be an idol. However the most generic plot device is added which is “There is no couples allow on campus.” Though it is clique it works since without this plot point I don't think I would find it as interesting. Then we follow our main heroine Haruka Nanami as she helps a bunch of hot looking guys with problems as they all fall in love with her. As the story goes on the main character must pick which slice of man she wishes to write songs for.
CHARACTERS
As I recently said Haruka Nanami is out main heroine who has THE WORST LOOKING EYES I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ANIME.(Since Katanagatari) She went to school to study music composition, so she could one day create music for an idol she looked up to. Then we have the 6 boys, Otoya Ittoki, Masato Hijirikawa, Natsuki Shinomiya, Tokiya Ichinose, Ren Jinguji, and Sho Kurusu. Each one has its typical cardboard cut out, but it just works for a series like this. Since we all know your going to like the character that fits your favorite cutout anyway. The only odd ones out are Tokiya, and Natsuki, who are like their own characters in a way, and I couldn’t think of a similar character to fit them. Each boy does get some development, but they still remain in their respective role. Also some have much more screen time than others, so your best boy might not be as popular as another best boy.
The other spot light character is the headmaster of the school Shining Saotome, who is greatest character of the series, as he talks Engrish and Japanese, while being one of the greatest side characters to ever exist in anime.
ANIMATION AND SOUND
Animation looks great, A-1 usually doesn't let down when it comes to its style and animation and they did a great job here. All the pretty boys look amazing and I am not saying that just because I am a girl, but they all look different, and have this unique charm about them. There is some CGI but it is well integrated, and doesn't stick out all that much… besides the saxophone.
Something you might watch this show for is the amazing soundtrack. Each episode has its own song made up by either the boys, or our heroine. Each song has some heart in it, meaning it’s music you can feel what the characters feel. The opening and ending also get a shoutout for being brilliant. Also the songs have just enough Engrish to make you smile even if you don't know what the guys are singing about. Also the music isn’t 100% J-pop as there is a rock song, blues, and even some jazz.
FINAL WORD
This anime isn't for everyone. If you go into this expecting something amazing then you will be disappointed. Rather you should go into this and watch it for the pretty bishonen boys, because your tired of all the moe girls. Also you can watch it for the good music because it has that, attest to my tastes and I don’t normally like pop music. This show knows what it is, and if your looking for a reverse harem that isn't as good as Ouran High School Host club, then you have found it. Personally I would recommend this to anyone looking for some slightly better then average show to watch in a few hours that will keep you entertained, and smiling because we need more reverse harems.
With all that I give this series a 7/10 for not only being enjoyable and different, but it was a above average series with a good ending, but still was a average show.
If you are looking for another opinion then here is another video review.

So, after years of telling my sister that no, I wasn't going to watch a show about six dudes all having a serious thaaang for a girl with eyes like pools of toxic waste...
...I ended up watching it. Actually, I did more than watch it. I actually really enjoyed it. You know what? I reckon that you should watch it too. You wanna know why? Here's why.
Story - Plot? What Plot?
This basically sums up what I thought of UtaPri's plot. I mean, I think there was something very vague in there about Hayato wanting a change of agency and Haruka fangirling over Hayato and then Tokiya actually NOT being Hayato's twin brother (what a shocker...) but really, I actually don't think that there was a plot at all.
BUT WHO CARES! Let's face it, none of us watched this anime for the plot, did we? We watched it for the pretties and the music! Well, that's what I watched it for.
Anyway, don't go into this anime expecting a good plot or anything deep. This is fluffy shoujo at its best. Just sit back, grab the popcorn and enjoy the fluff!
Animation - SHAKE THAT ASS FOR ME COME ON SHAKE THAT ASS FOR ME
That, in essence, is the entire point of the awesome animation that this show provides. Bright colours, fluid movements - well, except for Ren's sax playing, which I'm pretty sure was done using a tumblr gif of some sort - I loved the detail they put into animating the characters and making pretties everywhere.
ESPECIALLY THE BITS WHERE THEY FLEW THROUGH THE AIR AND SPARKLED AND STUFF. Those are the best bits. Fuck yeah, flying sparkly bishies. It doesn't get better. It actually doesn't.
Also, the dancing. THE. DANCING. I nearly died laughing when I saw the end sequence. The one for 2000% is even better. Oh God. Seriously, my sides are hurting just thinking about it.
Sound - So Many Songs in Here, Where Do I Begin?
I am not joking with this one. There was a song in EVERY episode. Even if it didn't really fit in with the plot (Episode 6, I'm looking at you), there is at least one insert song in every episode and a LOT of effort went into the sound. Of course, I'd expect that since it's a music anime but even so, I absolutely loved the musical journey that this show took me on. Honestly. Even the backing soundtrack was lovely.
Why does it get an 8 out of 10 and not a 10? Well, a lot of the voice actors (classically trained musician here before you say anything, hollaaaa) actually CANNOT sing for shit. Ren's voice quite frankly sounds like someone strangled a cat, Otoya sounds like he's breathing rather than singing and...the list could go on, really. I know they're idols and not ALL idols can sing but COME ON, GUYS. You could have made a LITTLE more effort with this!
I highly recommend Masato's song "Knocking on the Mind" and Natsuki's song "Orion de Shout Out", though. The first one is for the vocals and the second is for the badass guitar stuff. Those songs made their respective episodes for me. I also think that they did really well disguising the fact that most of the idols couldn't sing. Until I really listened to the character songs, I couldn't tell.
Characters - So Tropey I Can't Even Desu!
The characters, as much as I'd love to give them 10/10 for entertainment value, are actually just giant tropes in a beautifully-animated and colourful package. I mean, come on! They're even colour-coded so we don't forget which one is which!
That said, I could really get behind a few backstories. I really would have liked more time to focus on Ren and Masato, for example. I feel that far too much screentime was given to Tokiya compared to the others. If they had made a little more effort with the characters' personalities, that would have improved the show for me. Then again, it IS a thirteen-episode series, so they probably didn't have too much time to go into too much depth.
Their DESIGNS, however...well, let's just say that there's been a lot of unresolved debate over who is the best-looking between me and the friend who watched it just before I did. Six bishounen. Six colour-coded bishounen with a habit of bursting into passionate song and flying randomly through the atmosphere for no discernible reason. What's not to like?
Also, Saotome. Just. SAOTOME. I won't say any more. I don't really need to.
Enjoyment - PINK FLUFFY UNICORNS DANCING ON RAINBOWS
That is roughly how much I enjoyed this series. While the angsty drama moments and mood whiplash caused by Tokiya's angsty emo whatever it was he was doing were a little off-putting, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Honestly. I did. Okay, so I did get a bit bored in the dramatic scenes...but hey, from a comedy point of view, this show had everything!
Best of all, I think this show actually took the piss out of ITSELF. That takes BALLS. Serious BALLS.
Overall - LUCKY 7!
I think this show is a solid 7 for me. Definitely. Am I supposed to put a summary here? I think I am. However, I'm not going to. Summaries are boring. Instead, I'm going to give you a list of all the things that I found funny in this show.
- Natsuki's skirt
- That one scene where Ren was just randomly standing naked under the shower for no reason except fanservice
- Saotome's Engrish
- The unusually deep voice of the class teacher...hmm...
- The interesting saxophone animations
- Tokiya being totally unable to pronounce most of the words in "Amazing Grace"
- Haruka's eyes...not sure if toxic waste or melted lemon ice-cream...
- The fact that 5/6 of the idols actually cannot sing (6/7 if you count Prince Meow Meow of the Planet Sparkle)
- My own personal joke that the S-Class is actually the Swag Class
That's about all I can think of now. Anyway, I hope that I've convinced you to watch this. Or not. This is probably the worst review you've ever seen. Whatever. I'm 1000% awesome.
NOW GO WATCH IT BEFORE I TAKE NATSUKI'S GLASSES OFF.

There's nothing much this anime gives so a very, very short review
STORY - 3/10
Plot - 0/5
Admit it, there is almost nothing this anime can give. Haruka enters an academy of music despite the fact she doesn't know music. "Oh boy here we go."
Delivery - 3/5
Well even with its cheesy ass hell moments with a bunch of bishounen it delivers the musical concept well. Other times it has the stereotypical Japanese celebrations and romance in between. It's quite an unrealistic way of telling a romance in a music school where romantic relationships are banned in the academy. Theres at least one new song every episode no matter how far the episode is from the plot.
and lets net forget that there was no actual kiss.
Animation - 9/10
The animation of this anime was GREAT. Well maybe the dance moves of the performances were a bit... ergh.
Shake dem hips, boys!
Yeah this IS from 2000% but you get the idea of horrible dance moves, oh and DEM ASSES
And tbh Haruka's eyes don't bother me a bit. Fantastic animation overall.
Sound - 9/10
OST - 4/5
The OST was SUPERB. The music is the best part of UtaPri. The lyrics are ultra cheesy, sure but the music in it keeps you moving.
Voice acting - 5/5
Awesome voice acting is awesome. Totally fitting with the stereotypes and great voices.
Character - 5/10
Design - 4/5
All colourful bishies (and pretty girls) of all looks ; short, tall, glasses etc
Development - 1/5
Well they are there for the romantic interests and nothing else tbh. They don't open up much aside from the duo personality blonde, however from all stereotypes you have to like one lol
Enjoyment - 8/10
I won't lie, I enjoyed this. Very horrible in 'important' aspects like plot and character but a guilty pleasure of mine. It is so cheesy it's hilarious and fun to watch. You'll be swiped in a heartbeat.
OVERALL - 7
