Shugo Chara!

しゅごキャラ!

Amu Hinamori is a student at Seiyo Elementary, where she has a reputation for being "cool and spicy"; however, her real personality is that of an extremely shy and easily intimidated girl. One night Amu makes a wish that she would have the courage to be reborn as her "would-be" self. The next morning Amu finds three brightly colored eggs—red, blue, and green—in her bed. Each egg eventually hatches into a Guardian Character: Ran, Miki, and Su. Guardian Characters are angel-like beings that aid a person into becoming their "would-be" selves and fulfill the person's dreams. The Guardian Characters accomplish this by giving encouragement and advice, but they can also temporarily change a person's personality and abilities. With the Guardian Characters, Amu's life becomes much more complex as she now struggles to deal with her new personalities and the Seiyo Elementary Guardians—a student council group where each member has their own Guardian Character—who recruits Amu to search for and seal the X eggs and X Characters, corrupted forms of people's dreams.

It's pretty weird, it's about weird magic kids who want to reach their dreams. Not bad though.

Shugo Chara is a feel good show. It's about following your dreams even if you have no idea what those dreams might be. Even though the theme of friendship and teamwork can feel tiresome in kids' shows Shugo Chara manages to renew it. Its cast is diverse enough that you're going to empathize with at least one characters if not all of them. Though you only receive the plot in small amounts that are widely spaced apart, its still an interesting story. If you're a fan of the magical girl genre then you won't mind the show's formula. Basically Shugo Chara is a great pick-me-up. It's cute, funny, engaging and with a little romance for good measure.

From the mind of Peach-Pit Shugo Chara is actually pretty good. The thing is, the first time i watched this was in sixth grade, and as a 12 year old I did not expect as much from this. And at its core, this should be happening. The show is aim toward girls, prepubescent to be exact, so the concept might be question able, but it never try to do something else.

The animation is pretty good, my personal favorite part of the show, and the transformation aspect of it is what its need to be: bright and colorful. Some of the character could have been more developed that they ought to be, but nothing more than that. The sound also did a great job accompanying the show. Its your standard J-POP still its pretty catchy. The story is kind like Sailor Moon. Period. Its not a copy, its just that I found that then story line was rather similar. Given that this is a mahou shoujo, I really did not expect anything less.

Watch it if you enjoy this kind of show. I personally would not, after watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Again I watched this twice: as a sixth grader and more recntly, after six years and my opoion on it have change, but I still recomend it.
