Servant x Service
サーバント×サービスImagine if three people suddenly found themselves as civil servants of the city Mitsuba. What sort of personalities and drives would they have to push them to seek out such careers? Lucy Yamagami, a serious young woman assigned to the Welfare Administrative Section, intends to use the job as a means of settling a vendetta against another civil servant. Yutaka Hasebe, a flirtatious young man assigned to the First Section of the Welfare Department, intends to slack off whenever he can and have a good time. And Saya Miyoshi, a college graduate assigned to the Second Section of the Welfare Department, intends to simply get through the first job she's had in her life as best she can.Servant x Service follows these three newcomers starting their jobs as government employees under their supervisor, Taishi Ichimiya, who is utterly clueless about how to direct them—despite having worked there for the last eight years. Nevertheless, he welcomes them as fellow civil servants and encourages them to work themselves like dogs for the sake of the citizens. We follow their day-to-day lives as they experience the rigors of government employment, including dealing with regulations, office romances, paperwork, and being the nearest punching bags when citizens need something to complain about.

To make it clear, Servant x Service series basically is slice-of-life genre, like other slice-of-life themes, its also contains comedy genre. It's quite hard to imagine how the story goes on Servant x Service ward office when what you have watched only around school life mixing with slice-of-life genres. There's no school as background in the series, sometimes the characters also going out to a restaurant, shopping district and even other characters places. The background itself isn't the boring place to begin with because it's so freaking funny. No doubt the series will cheer your day even if you're not in the good mood to start with.
The characters are what makes the whole series so lively even if it takes place in the ward office. Find the innocent main heroine is arguing with her hard-work co-worker~in the other side, her co-worker is a costume maker and cosplayer too. The lovey-dovey scenes also filled with comedy contents, damn heart-warming! You can find how easily the characters and storyline distract yourself. It's not a harem genre, so the characters of male and female almost even. The simple yet appealing art will please your eyes along with the jokes.
For the soundtrack themes, subjectively I like both of em. Not liking it 'til I play it all day and everyday, but it's good to hear. The beating for opening and a bit mellow for the ending theme. For me, I wish they will make a sequel for Servant x Service, I miss all of the characters (ಥಿ∀ಥ ;)
And talk about the rate, it's pleasure to me to give it 9. Yeah, really. tehee!
Pros:
- Lovable characters, unique setting, jokes
- Nice visual, the colouring is soft yet straight
- Romantic x comedy series? Choose this!
Cons:
- Some ecchi-ness (related to jokes) (*I put it into cons because there's ecchi when it will be freaking good even without any ecchi)

What's good about Servant x Service?
For starters, the show is pretty funny. It wont make you cry laughing and it is FAR from the funniest thing I have seen, but I will admit I laughed quite a few times through the anime. As for the characters, I ended up liking most of them in the end, despite all the flaws with them.
What wasn't so good about Servant x Service?Like I said, the show can be funny, but it doesn't have a plot and the romance is very boring. This makes it very mediocre if you ask me, since shows like Azazel San are much, much funnier while not having a plot. Likewise in Azazel San, you don't have to deal with horrible drama to help force the already boring romance between the two main characters. Seriously, the "plot" of that last episode couldn't be more stupid, not to mention pretty much everyone saw it coming from a mile away. It was just, bad.
As for the characters themselves, I liked them, mainly because I found them to be entertaining. They were funny at first, but as the show went on and their quirks got overused, the show just got less and less funny. This show just didn't know how to keep their characters fresh, aside from maybe Hasabe, who was easily the most enjoyable character in the show.
Perhaps what really made this show truly disappointing was the promise that the premise of the show and the first episode showed. It isn't every day in the anime world that we see a comedy about work, so I was sort of excited for this. But ultimatly, they could have changed the setting from a work building to a high school and everything would have played out the same. The entire show, from the plot to the cast sounds like it was copied from the most generic high school show and pasted to an office building, that's how similar it is to other high school rom coms. Quite sad really. The only thing this show has going for it is the fact that it could make you laugh, which is more than I can say about 99% of high school anime out there.
Score: 6.5/10

After completing the series I just simply cannot be reminded of this show without bringing a smile to my face. All the mishaps and forebringings of adult life come together in a rather reclusive spot, the civil welfare office. Depressing as it may sound, its actually the polar opposite in this show for this will remind us that a common workplace could just be as fun as high school as long as you make the most out of it. A rare outlook into the daily lives of random japanese citizens in the workforce that are trying to survive their careers, and most probably, each other.
Having seen through a multiple perspective of different characters each with their own unique appeal and personal dilemmas, its quite a refreshing outtake rather than just seeing everything in a simple POV of a single character that more of often than not can hinder story progress or events. Most relatable in the bunch is Yamagami Lucy...and her 20 something second names. She became a civil servant for one purpose, to find out who is the person who approved her very long name in the civil records that burdens her for the rest of her life. Along with 2 other newcomers Hasebe Yutaka and Miyoshi Saya they embark on the beginning of their careers together and helping each other along the way. What made things very interesting did not start very early, but rest assured the office life of these 3 inviduals shall not be as boring as you may think. The interactions with their senior co-workers Ichimiya and Chihaya just perks things up a bit, but wait till the show introduce their boss; a pink bunny stuffed toy robot. Add Ichimiya's lousy tsundere little sister and Hasebe's forever bitter rival Tanaka Jouji and everything went nuts. All I could say is that the characters are totally the ones who made this show truly special and enjoyable. Even not so important side characters like Hasebe's sister is quite noticable too. They way they portray personal conflicts between these characters just makes for a very delightful sitcom that we can only see in western comedy shows. And since this is a lighthearted comedy/slice-of-life show the core story is not to be taken that seriously, although it does become a good basis for the last 3 episodes. The focus on the simple everyday mishaps kept the unpredictable charm alive and well in the show without giving us the feeling that the show is going nowhere.
Animation is nothing noteworthy. Hey its a light comedy show, you do not really need high impact animation of somebody overreating to a situation. Everything went adequately without resorting to overdone reactions or sequences that frankly just wastes air time.
Overall music is great. The OP alone will automatically show how quirky this show truly is and then conclude in a light jazzy interlude that was the ED. The slapstick music in the awkward situations are notable as well, bringing the the suspense and comedy to new heights.
Voice actors are top notch. Hasebe Yuta was voiced by Tatsu Suzuki, who also did Haru in Tonari Kaibutsu-kun, is most notable since he uses the same boyish charm in this show. I'm quite surprised by Aki Toyasaki doing Megumi. I know she is the very known klutz, Yui Hirasawa from K-ON! back then but now she is given a role of a lady who is very prose and bossy.
Overall this is rare gem that A-1 pictures picked up. If it reminded you of Working!, it should, but I could say its slightly better and more relatable (probaly coz I'm an adult as well and is in an actual workforce, but that's just me). Go watch it now!
