Walkure Romanze

ワルキューレロマンツェ

Taking place at Winford Academy located in an old town called Helen's Hill, the story is all about knights and the sport of jousting. At this school, students learn how to become knights, ride horses and joust properly. The main character is a young man named Takahiro Mizuno who was training to become a knight and jouster but after suffering an injury he dropped out of the knight program and joined the begleiter (assistant) program instead. Due to his animal handling skills and former experience as a jouster, this makes him a hot commodity. Multiple beautiful girls in the school want him to become their personal begleiter, though Takahiro always refuses their offers. One day a bizarre accident causes his friend, Mio Kisaski, to be challenged to a jousting duel despite her not actually being a knight. Takahiro agrees to become her temporary begleiter, but that ends up only being the beginning of their partnership as she enrolls in the annual tournament.

Story:
Long story short this show follows our main protagonist Takahiro Mizuno who due to an injury has stopped jousting but attends a school for jousting while training to be a begleiter (Knight's assistant). He then meets several female knights and its a harem so you already know where its going. However the show makes it blatantly obvious who he cares for the most.

Animation:
For the most part the animation is quite good.....can't really complain at all really.......the characters look very good and so do the backgrounds and what not......most of the "action" scenes where they are jousting are well animated also so no complaints.

Sound:
The voice acting was standard and nothing to talk about really....the opening song "UN-DELAYED" by Miyuki Hashimoto was quite enjoyable and the ending  "MoonRise Romance" by Natsuko Asou was decent. all in all it was all standard from what you've come to expect from an anime. Nothing spectacular but nothing particularly bad.

Characters:
Well my biggest problem is the main character Takahiro......to be perfectly honest he has absolutely no presence at all.......he can not say anything for an entire episode and it'd be fine. As most harems the female characters take the stage and are normally the most enjoyable characters........the girls in this show are ok......for what you see of them.....i mean........one of them you kind of get to see a bit of her background later on in the show......the rest were never really expanded upon so....but they're pretty that's something right? XD
my favorite character is definitely Noel......i think she's by far and away the most interesting out of the girls that's just me though.

Enjoyment:
In my personal opinion this isn't a very good anime and i love harem and ecchi but this show just didn't do it for me....its not completely horrible.......the female characters are likable and there are some funny scenes and a bit of back story with one maybe two of the characters...kind of its not something you have to watch its not all that.........but its just alright...the last 2 eps were pretty good i have to say.......that's something and i did like the character Noel quite a bit so that was enough for me to finish this show....i don't really recommend it but try it if you'd like.

I will preface this whole review with that I really dislike the Ecchi genre as a whole but sometimes you find real gems in the all the crap. I don't expect to review very many of this genre but sometimes synopsis' are interesting enough to pull me in.

Story:
Walkure Romanze is the story of Takahiro Mizuno a former knight who stopped jousting due to injury. He also attends an academy that focuses on jousting as its focus for sporting activities. One day his friend Mio, a student in the “normal curriculum,” (as opposed to the knight one) gets into a misunderstanding and is forced to duel through the only way knights at this school know how, jousting!

The first thing I really want to say about this anime is that I was very surprised that the story is actually somewhat normal. Everything makes sense in an "anime" sort of way, and isn’t really too much of a stretch like Infinite Stratos for example. While all of the main girls want Takahiro to be their begleiter, (basically the knight’s helper, kind of like a squire) the reason he is so desired is that he is a former champion of the sport and would probably still be one of the best if he didn’t get injured. And again unlike Infinite Stratos, ALL the girls aren’t after him.

This is an ecchi anime, I have not forgotten, so there are the standard scenes and most of the scenes of “Oh no, I am falling and am going to accidentally touch something” are mostly in the beginning and are somewhat few in number. There are also scenes that are made to sound more erotic then they actually are, but this again is expected in this sort of genre. However, it happened less then I thought it would so I didn’t mind the break in pace too much.

Animation & Sound:Note: I am simplifying scoring on these sections.

1 - if I noticed it was bad
2.5 - if I thought it was fine
5 - if I noticed it was good

As I am not an expert on animation as a whole I can only give you my overall feelings which is not conducive for a 1-5 scale. I will be scoring the sound in the same way because I am more focused on the story and overall enjoyment in my scoring.

Character:
Speaking about the girls, there are 4 main girls and the heroine I guess you would call her. Aside from her you have some other stereotypes thrown in like the samurai girl and the loli. As a whole it's pretty much standard fare for characters, though the main character is at least has his former champion jouster...thing going for him.

Overall, probably one of the most interesting things about this anime was all the terminology and the jousting in general, I knew practically next to nothing about jousting but after watching I know quite a fair bit more. Also another surprising thing is that the story is actually appealing to me, you have Mio’s story trying to become a better jouster and all that, the side stories of all the other girls and their problems and Takahiro’s story of overcoming himself. So it was pretty much an anime full of surprises considering the genre.

I would easily recommend this to people if they aren't put off by the ecchi genre as a whole, even though it had a standard anime plot the jousting part of it makes it unique and enough to keep me interested.

A show about "Jousting" that the only thing it does is throw fan service at your face and for moment thinks that you can take it seriously, there is nothing here that will make you care about what is happening, not even the wheelchair girl, that is saying something. Ichik... I mean, Takahiro is one of the most bland male character i have ever seen in my life and the girls are just tits (really big tits) riding horses and moaning here and there. If you like fanservice for the fanservice, watch it, if not don't even waste your time.
