Lovely Complex

ラブ★コン

Love is unusual for Koizumi Risa and Ootani Atsushi, who are both striving to find their ideal partner in high school—172 cm tall Koizumi is much taller than the average girl, and Ootani is much shorter than the average guy at 156 cm. To add to their plights, their crushes fall in love with each other, leaving Koizumi and Ootani comically flustered and heartbroken. To make matters worse, they're even labeled as a comedy duo by their homeroom teacher due to their personalities and the stark difference in their heights, and their classmates even think of their arguments as sketches. Lovely★Complex follows Koizumi and Ootani as they encourage each other in finding love and become close friends. Apart from their ridiculous antics, they soon find out an unexpected similarity in their music and fashion tastes. Maybe they possess a chemistry yet unknown, but could love ever bloom between the mismatched pair? (Source: MAL Rewrite)

If you’re looking for a rom-com that isn’t cliché or stereotypical, this is definitely for you.

This sweet, hilarious love story will make you laugh, cry, feel second-hand embarrassment, more laughing, and fangirl overall.

(As someone who relates to Risa on many levels, this anime has become my all time favorite rom-com. Plus I can always rewatch it for it’s quirky, cute, and comedic moments)

I really liked it. The characters and most of the story was interesting and the comedy side was very funny and the romance very sweet. I'll admit it's very over-dramatic but I have to say it's my favourite rom-com.

A nice Shoujo-Anime with nice and funny characters.

- Music and Animation aren´t the best but ok.

+ Risa is a totally likable female character,
who has a realistically sensible side, which
isn´t annoying at all.

Overall it´s really enjoyable but definitely not the best Shoujo-Anime of all time.

Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Romance ensues. This is a formula used in many shows and at first Lovely Complex might look like one of these simple shows. Lovely Complex is much more than that though. The story follows Risa a tall girl who towers over most people and her comedic partner in class, Otani a short boy who at most sees eye to eye with other girls. She and Otani are often being laughed at, because they look and act like an popular comedy duo. Although the fact they're being laughed at and are bickering all the time, their friendships start to grow and Risa realizes she have developed feelings for Otani. After that follows a unique story with many twists and turns to get the dense Otani to realize her feelings for him and hopefully accept them.
What really makes this story are how human the characters feel. There's nothing extra-ordinary or special about them. They are just human with all flaws and faults being a human brings. You completely understand the motivations behind the actions they take and you feel like you could have acted the same way.
The art is full of colour and compliments the story with the way the world is animated. The art is different from most other anime and has its own style. What I really appreciated in this anime was that the characters appearances change every day and you got a sense of what style they have. The music I found just average but it suited the show well enough and did not add any negatives.
I thouroghly recommend Lovely Complex as it is probably one of the top romances I have seen in anime. It has 24 episodes and every one them contributes to the greatness of this anime.

I can't believe how good she looks she just needs to be proud of her height. This was the most cute and hilarious stories you can find.

It was an okay anime, but it actually got quite annoying sometimes.

Let's see. Its not your average rom-com.

First of all, the characters are well developed. We get to know them and like them for who they are. We get to know their troubles, and their joys. The relationship between them is not balanced. The story centers a tad more on the girl, Risa, yet, it doesn't forget about the dude, Otani. Both of them have their on troubles along the lines, but by mid-season you'll get what an average show gives you at the end of it: the sensation of accomplishment.

This show goes the extra mile. It gives you the aftermath of what it could've been a normal ending. And in this area Lovely Complex excells. They do so good showing what happened after they graduate high-school that its a memorable thing.

You'll be happy to watch this, altough its only on dvd quality. There's a live-action movie, which I haven't watched and I'm not planing to.

A story about a comedic duo that don't see themself as other thing, but that is about to change and begins a really good romance with it's ups and downs and a tale of how love could be reward if you work hard and put everything of yourself to make it happen. A really well done love story and a lot of comedic moments. Definetly worth watching if you're a fan of romantic comedies

Lovely Complex, or Love Com for short, is the story of Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Otani, an odd pair of friends who grow closer and closer throughout their high school lives. Why odd? Because Koizumi is a good 14 cm taller than Otani and they've been labeled as a comedic duo in school because of how strange they look standing side by side and interacting. But as the two get to know one another better, we start to see that something trivial, like a height complex, shouldn't matter when it comes to your friends and those you care for.

Love Com is not a typical anime I pick up on. In fact I came across it casually when I was in a slump about what I should watch. And I'm so very glad I found it when I did, because I could not have asked for a better viewing experience. I found myself both laughing and crying along with the characters throughout this 24 episode adventure. The story feels so very familiar, because it's something I think we've all experienced. We've all had moments where we felt like our appearances made us an outcast. And we've all had to deal with the fears and difficulties of admitting our feelings to those around us.

Now I'm not going to say this is some epic coming of age classic, but it's worth a watch because of all the things it does right. This isn't the conventional boy meets girl story. It's an odd, overly excitable girl meets temperamental boy story, while they also experience being judged by their appearances, being rejected by a significant other and finding out that you should never give up on trying to be with that one special person just because of a little heartache.

I highly recommend Love Com, especially if you're looking for a romantic comedy that will have you smiling or crying while you say, "I know, I've gone through it too."
