This SS movie is a 'remake' of the Fake Athena arc, but all of the arc was edited and made into a 2-hour movie, which is not very good. But, the biggest upside to this is the Character and the CGI. Holy cheeseballs, those CGI was godlike. Rozan Shoryuha and Pegasus Comet Fist looks super amazing, not to mention the cloth animation, the assembly and the helmet part, 20 out of 10. And I think this movie is not really dark-ish like the manga, when every once a while someone's arm, leg or limb gets torn and all's right with the world. The Shounen-ish direction is a good gamble by the guys who made this movie. Nevertheless, the story is really awful, because a lot of plotholes, but I think the main story could stand for itself, and pretty understandable -- if you've read or watched SS before. The CGI, Sound & Animation needs no explanation. From the first minute, it's AH-MAY-ZING and it never took wrong turns from there.

I could complain about how the show skipped a lot of important plot details, Or some of the character designs feeling to modern and not seeming enough like their original counterparts, Or how the Scorpio Saint is now a female, Or how the saints armour themselves look more like super sentai characters rather then saint cloths, Or how the entire intrigue surrounding Gemini Saga's character isn't even brought up or addressed, Or the fact that these characters have known each other for like a day and we're meant to buy this emotional connection they have with each other, Or- Look what i'm saying is I have a lot of complaints with this film but at the end of the day they're really just nit picks.
As far as entire arcs being made into film length go this is actually one of the better ones. Animation is stunning and the action sequences sort lived are entertaining enough to watch. OST is good though i'm disappointed we didn't get a remix of Pegasus fantasy anywhere in there but bias to the series aside LoS was as a piece of entertainment are descent enough time. But as fan-service to fans of the series it does a lot of questionable things with characters that are bound to piss a lot of people off (Hell the fan favourite character Shaka does almost literally nothing this entire film) and for new comers into the series the film cuts to much out for people to jump straight into this film without having seen the series so really I don't know who this film's demographic is.. And that's kind of the problem.
Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary gets a 5.5/10

The only reason I gave this an overall high score may be the nostalgia factor. I use to watch this anime as a kid and loved it, however I am disappointed in newer series of the franchise so I was really looking forward to this movie. Over all the production was pretty well done except for the lack of character development and build up to a better story. The characters were each fun and lovable except the way the characters were introduced, that needed some work. The way they were introduced was like the producers expected the viewers to know the back story and personalities of each character. Therefore causing newer viewers, who have never seen the original series, to become a bit lost and confused. The story lacked out on lots of explanation. Things were happening here and there and no one really knew why. But in all the animations were nice, looked somewhat Disneyish, but still fluid and beautiful. The action scenes were intense and the music fit well. If they had put more time into character back stories and development and better story telling the movie could have been more successful. So overall I really enjoyed the movie and I recommend it anyone who wants an easy to follow action-packed anime movie.
