If I had to sum this review up in one word it would be “fun”, but since a one word review isn’t really much of a review I should probably write an actual review.
I originally held off on watching this show for quite a while. I had this feeling deep down I would love it, but at the same time I didn’t want to go in expecting to enjoy it and instead come out hating the show, which is always a big bummer to me. So when I realized that season 2 was coming out in just a few days, I decided to marathon the show. Saying that I’m glad I did, might be a little bit of an understatement.
This show centers around Suzukaze Aoba working at her new job on the 3-D team at Eagle Jump, her favorite game studio. Alongside Aoba, we have a great cast of characters, some of my favorites being Yagami Kō ,Character Designer on the game, and Takimoto Hifumi ,a fellow 3-D modeler on the game.
Throughout this show we see the team work on a game, which leads to quite a few entertaining moments. At first I thought that there was going to be no progress done on the game in the show, like a lot of slice of life, kinda not making progress, but the show surprised me about that.
The way that they portray game development in this show is decently well done. I was shocked to see that they would show something like crunch time. Though some things, like how late into development it feels like Yagami Kō was working on character designs for the game, just felt like it wasn’t as believeable.
The background music in this show fit well enough, but at the same time it was somewhat forgettable. The opening though, “Sakura Skip” by Fourfolium, was extremely catchy, same goes for the ending, “Now Loading!!!!” also by Fourfolium. I found myself wanting to listen to both the opening and the ending, which is a rare thing for me.
Animation also was really good, I can’t think of a single time that where the consistency really dropped in the quality. The show wasn’t Kyoto Animation or Ufotable quality, but it didn’t need to be. The character designs were also extremely memorable, with each character looking unique-enough.
Now don’t get me wrong, this show isn’t without faults, like a certain character that can get kinda annoying at times, but at the same time the character also had some very memorable moments. My other fault with the show with the show, which isn’t really a fault, but I thought I should mention, is that the first episode starts off kinda slow, which if you aren’t in the mood for waiting a few minutes for the show to really get going, you might shut if off.
This show is not groundbreaking in any way, but for what they did present it was a lot of fun and something I would recommend to any slice of life or moe fan.
