I only watched it out of spite of haven watched the actual show a while ago and was horribly disappointed with this movie. I must have paused it at least 4 times to go and do something else and pressed play hoping something out of the blue would happen, but, unfortunately it didn’t. Really predictable outcome and very difficult to watch because nothing exceptional happened. Some of the characters have specific personalities that suit them well and are well executed in sound and feel, others, such as the main character, remain more or less mysterious, unless you have watched the series. The story line needed more depth and dimension. The gore and plot twists that you had in the series is nowhere to be found in this movie, it’s more of a cat-mouse chase.
Aside from that, sorry for the bad review folks, I rarely ever give bad ones, but this…

While the series left a lot to be desired, the movie helps to fill in a lot of those gaps.
First, I should warn you that you have to watch the series before the movie. It's not a terrible series, but it can be painful to get through at times. Otherwise, you're gonna be confused. Now, for the movie, it did a good job answering questions left in the anime: the whos, whats, whys, etc. The suspense is quite nice as well.
From a sound perspective, I don't remember much of the soundtrack for the film, except for the theme song played at the credits (Metro Baroque), which is a pretty nice song.
As for the characters, they definitely are an improvement from the series. The cast size has also shrunk, which is good if you don't like a lot of names to remember. Their personalities are all kind of bland, except for Saya's (she is the main character) and Mana, a new girl.
Overall, the characters are improved and it picks up a lot of slack the anime left behind. No slice-of-life by day/monster slayer by night, either, which I think turned people off for its repetitiveness. The theme song is nice to boot.
This is just my opinion, but I think reception towards the Blood-C franchise might've been more positive had the series been a movie, and The Last Dark become an anime series, or just have two movies adapting the story.
