Carnival Phantasm
カーニバル・ファンタズムHow do you resolve a conflict between powerful spirits of famous heroes for a prize capable of granting any wish? Wage a war that will cost your blood, sweat, and tears? Too much work—how about a game-show competition instead?Carnival Phantasm takes a number of characters from Type-Moon's original works, and puts them in a variety of light-hearted scenarios which parody their respective series. Watch Lancer suffering due to his low luck stat, or watch the egotistical King of Heroes gladly kneel to a dominatrix King of Knights. Just remember to leave your sanity at the door.

I'll be honest, unless it related directly to Fate/Zero or Fate/Stay Night, I had no freaking clue what the hell was going on in this show. Maybe half of it made any sense to me and the rest was either referencing stuff in the Fate series that I wasn't familiar with or was simply nonsensical. What I did understand however was quite funny and made it worthwhile to watch due to its short run time.

The Nasuverse, a world filled with dark, gritty, serious and emotional story. Naturally the creators at type-moon decided to do a U-turn on this, get really drunk and a make a light hearted comedy. This leaves us a comedic parody of their most acclaimed work combined with a skit series with no continuity whatsoever. And I love it.
As I've previously said, the story... well, there is none really. Its a series of seven minute long comedic skits. Despite my love of a good story being missing, it works perfectly with a series like this. All the characters from type-moons greatest works are there and parodied greatly: Gilgamesh's pride and greed make him a spoiled brat, Saber's love of food is comparable to Goku and Lancer's notorious bad luck turns him into Kenny from South Park. You can see your favourite characters cooking, playing games, taking part in a Grand-Prix, "napping" and volleyball.
The animation is bright cheerful and filled with joy. The music is simplistic and yet incredibly addictive. A prime example is the opening of every single episode is just filled to the brim with love. IT WANTS TO GIVE YOU HUGS AND SMOOSH YOUR FACE!
On a serious note, If you haven't seen Fate/Stay Night or Tsukihime I wouldn't recommend this series as you wouldn't get most of the jokes (which mainly pokes fun at itself). However I thoroughly enjoyed this delight, every episode I was laughing, Hell in some cases I fell out of my chair laughing. If you're a type-moon fan, drop whatever you watching and and WATCH THIS! However if you're not, watch Fate and Tsukihime. THEN WATCH THIS!

Ah, the Nasuverse. What a horrible place filled with murder, rape, war, and suicide. God knows what was going on in the head of the person who thought up Carnival Phantasm. God knows what he was thinking when he decided to make a light hearted comedy featuring the nasuverse. I just want to say this one thing to the man who thought up Carnival Phantasm. You sir, are a genius. Now, to start off this review let's start with the story. The story.... is pretty much non existent. It's pretty much the characters of the Nasuverse, Fate/stay night and Tsukihime in particular, meeting and dicking around. They engage in cooking, volleyball, and Grand Prix. Now, If you have never played any of the Visual Novels in the nasuverse, chances are you won't get most of the jokes in Carnival Phantasm. Nearly all the jokes are inside jokes, meaning you have to have played a Nasuverse Visual Novel to get them. Each episodes are filled with Easter Eggs and cameos. In other words, this anime is pure non-sexual Fanservice. Although, there is some sexual fanservice here and there..... I, personally love the art in this anime. It's bright and cheerful. The opposite of what fans of the Nasuverse are used to. Sure, there are a few animation hiccups here and there, but most of the time it's perfect. The sound is top notch as well. The music is addictive, and the seiyuus fit their characters perfectly. And, trust me. You'll be replaying the opening over, and over, and over again. Hell, I'm listening to the opening as I'm typing up this review! My most favorite part of Carnival Phantasm is the characters. All the characters in this anime are lovable. From the sadistic Gilgasmesh to the unlucky Ke-...er.. I mean Lancer. This time around there are three new Neko Arcs. If you don't know what a Neko Arc they are the mascots of Carnival Phantasm. The original Neko Arc.... named Neko Arc is the mascot of Type-Moon and is a cat girl parody of Arcueid, The female protagonist of the Visual Novel, Tsukihime. Now, did I enjoy this anime? Yes. Very much in fact. Each episode had me laughing, which is rare for a anime to do so, and In some episodes I was in tears. Although, if you don't have the patience to play a Nasuverse Visual Novel, then you should pass on this anime. If you are a fan of the Nasuverse and Type-Moon, then you need... no MUST watching this anime. I don't care if you are already watching something, put it on hold and watch this anime now!....are you watching it?
