This 5-minute short was a 2014 Tokyo University of the Arts production that was directed by Yutaro Kubo.

The hand-drawn feel of the pencil brings out a very serene aesthetic at first, which later on turns into a very racy and hectic visual barrage of psychedelia.

The looping image changes every 8 seconds and as the time frame gets longer the more noticeable the changes get until you are left at that point where too much is going on. I started asking myself whether or not did I start my morning with a nice cup of mushroom tea around the half-way mark.

Not only is the animation looping, so is the music and as such the whole piece is glued together with the recurrent theme.

The animation is so short that I do recommend everyone interested in art flicks to give it a shot. It's visually very appealing and shouldn't leave you out in the cold.

I don't know how Yutaro Kubo managed to make something with the synopsis "An 8-second animation that keeps looping... or does it?" interesting but boy did he pull it off with flying colours. 

Obviously the story and characters aren't going to be the selling point for a 5 minute short so I'm not even going to mention them and instead get to the meat of the short, the animation.

The animation is very reminiscent of flip animation (The little doodles you used to draw in the corner of every corner of your math book in primary school to make a stick figure move) but once it's starts ramping up the detail you probably find that you can't keep up with everything that is being shown to you at the speed that it is being shown to you. 

In my opinion it's right up their with Furiko and the likes amongst my favorite short animations and I definitely recommend checking it out, it's quite the experience.
