One of the best shows to ever come out of Cartoon Network. A story about a lot of very realistic and damaged characters making things work because they love each other; characters who happen to also be alien space rocks that fight other alien space rocks. You can’t help but fall in love with them as well.

So i have  seen about 56 episodes now and my last review was after watching 6 episodes (sorry sbout that). I should write reviews after watching a lot of episodes. Lesson learned. Show is amazing and has a really good atmosphere. Characters are well made and has cool personalities.

Music in the show is amazing. Old school video game based music (Gameboy sounds mostly). The animation is also old schoolish and a bit anime influenced. You really start to enjoy the show after the story starts kicking in. watch at least 10-20 episodes before even concidering quitting.

I honestly don't see the appeal of this show.  I want to write a full review but it will take way too long. The characters are decent at times though but a lot of them are just meh and makes me sigh.. The show just tries way too hard and the music is awfully generic, to say the least.

Takes so much inspiration from anime I think it's going to spawn a new generation of weebs. Starts slow but has been getting progressively faster, gayer, more exciting and sadder through into Season 2.

The story of the franchise is simple on the surface, but is well-expanded and actually quite complex, for a show aimed at children. The simple premise of a young, naive boy living with three gem caretakers sounds surreal, but the backstory is incredibly interesting, especially when the audience is introduced to more malevolent gems, like Jasper. An interesting aspect of this show for me is the objectivity at which the series can be viewed - the 'bad' characters want to kill everyone on Earth so they themselves can survive as a race; it shows morality is neither black nor white, and can be viewed at from many different angles. The animation is overall to a high standard, and the art style is so darn cute. The use of shapes in the character design is very interesting. Not much to say about the sound, but the voice acting is well-casted and each voice really does suit the character, especially Estelle's Garnet.
The characters are lovable, while very well-rounded. Each of them has their own flaws, which really brings them to life and shows them as actual, real people. They all represent an interesting take on different character tropes, such as Amethyst's reckless behaviour attributed to where she came from. Another aspect I enjoyed immensely was the plotline of Steven being made up of part of his mother - it was tragic, yet beautiful, and allowed us to gain a deeper insight into some of Rose Quartz's powers while showing the the effects it has on some of the other characters and Steven's dynamic with them. Even some of the secondary characters such as Lapis Lazuli and Peridot are beautifully fleshed out and relatable.

Overall, this series warrants a 9/10 from me. Though not perfect, what show is? It appeals to a very wide range of audiences and the storyline is engaging, but set up in such a way that the vast majority of episodes can be viewed in any order - in my opinion, this allows two different viewing experiences. For the children, keeping them entertained for fifteen minutes at a time. For adults, a wider theme of family, loss and the complexity of morality and decision-making.
