Sym-Bionic Titan is an amazing series that is the spiritual successor to Samurai Jack.
Story:
While a Star Wars -esque cliche plot, the delivery and solid dark tone of the episodic but building threat showed more of what Tartakovsky covered up in Samurai Jack with robots and magic. Solid with lasting effects and serious consequences, rare for a western cartoon.
Characters:
While a weaker point for the series, the dynamics add an interesting layer that can provide more depth or comedy depending on the episode. As much development as an average anime but more than the run-of-the-mill western style cartoon.
Animation:
Tartakovsky excels in animation, character designs, as well as backgrounds and this series is his crown jewel. It combines painted backgrounds, intense detailed designs for even background characters, and stylized 3D/CG animation for the mechs in the series.
Overall it is edgier, more mature, and has a varied plot that proves that western animation can deliver anime level story telling with quality animation for a teen audience.
Sadly the show was out of place given that Cartoon Network did not have a solid vehicle to premiere the series, but luckily it did make 2 runs on Toonami's Adult Swim revival.
This is a definite series to watch for action cartoon fans!
