Maria Watches Over Us
マリア様がみてるWhen Yumi Fukuzawa entered the Lillian Girls' Academy, a prestigious all-girls Catholic school in Tokyo, she never imagined she would catch the eye of beautiful and demure Sachiko Ogasawara, one of the school's most popular students. Now Sachiko has offered to be Yumi's soeur, her "sister" and guide for all her years at the academy. The whole idea has Yumi completely flustered—after all, they hardly know each other! The entire campus is abuzz with rumors about the two of them, but Yumi is conflicted over accepting Sachiko's offer. While she admires Sachiko, being her soeur would also mean constantly being at the center of the entire school's attention! (Source: RightStuf)

[Review talks about the franchise in general, not just Season 1]
If there are shows called “Cute Girls Doing Cute Things”, I say this show is about “Sophisticated Ladies Doing Sophisticated Things”.
Maria-sama ga Miteru takes place at an all-girl’s catholic school and the story focuses on sisterhood and romance. Lillian Academy uses a “soeur system”, where a 2nd or 3rd year student chooses a freshman (her “petite soeur”) to guide through the rest of her school years, teach her etiquette, etc.
Every season has some sort of plot but to summarize it’s usually some sort of conflict going on between the main cast and how they deal with it.
There are times it can be difficult to not get angry at the characters, especially the two main protagonists Yumi and Sachiko, because they tend to be overly dramatic and protective of each other. But still, seeing them make up in the end and overcome their own individual issues together is very satisfying.
The show does a very good job at making sure all the main characters get a bit of spotlight and let us know about their pasts and personalities. How likeable you’ll find them, that’s up to you.
Lots of tea drinking. Lots of “onee-sama!”.
Animation is nothing especial and characters can look bad from afar, especially early in the series. You can notice the improvement especially in the 3rd and 4th seasons.
As far as soundtrack goes, it’s one thing that is consistently good across all seasons. The soundtrack follows a classical music theme and I highly recommend giving it some love.
I wouldn’t be surprised if people don’t enjoy this show for being too chill or even too dramatic, but I couldn’t help but take interest in the characters and enjoy learning more about them as I watched each season.
