Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens
ăăăȘăBased on a shounen manga by Takenashi Eri, serialised in Comic REX. Our unlucky protagonist, Jin, uses the trunk of a sacred tree to carve a statue for a school project. When he takes it outside, to his surprise it begins absorbing the surrounding earth and transforms into, hold your breath on this one, a girl! So like all similar setups this guardian deity is pretty pissed that her tree was cut down and lives with Jin while she takes out her anger on squashing bugs....er, cleaning the "Impurities."

Kannagi was bad. Kannagi was real bad. To describe how bad it was, I ended up dropping it TWICE.
The story was bland and boring, plot nonexistent at times. All those interruptions to plot advancement were really annoying. It's as if they actually wanted the characters to stay like they are - stereotypes. With no interesting qualities. There you have it - the completely average male lead, his childhood friend, the tsundere, the second male who has an incredibly annoying voice, the overly-sexual girl, the girl who doesn't love the male lead, the quiet girl, and the person who can do anything perfect with the first try. The only thing original was that the quiet girl was separated from the person who can do anything perfect with the first try, and this time he was a guy! What a twist! I would never have expected that!
As you can probably understand, my enjoyment lies low, especially with the god-awful 7th episode. The only thing I can congratulate Kannagi on is the pacing (never felt rushed and never really slowed down) and animation, which was above average.
Please steer clear of this if you do not enjoy tsunderes, slice-of-life and bland characters.
