ビビッドレッド・オペレーションFriendship is the key to protecting the world. That is everyone's wish. Here in a world where science has solved all questions. This story is set in Oshima. The happy, carefree 14-year-old Akane Isshiki lived a poor, but well loved life together with her reliable little sister, Momo, who does all the housework, and her grandfather, Kenjirou, a genius inventor who only created useless devices. When the weather is clear, they can see the artificial island, Blue Island, across the sea. In the center of that island rises the revolutionary Manifestation Engine, a discovery that solved the world's energy problems. It is a peaceful future, just like everyone dreamed of. One where everyone can smile and be happy... But suddenly, the world is visited by danger. An unknown enemy, the Alone, appear, targeting the Manifestation Engine. As none of their weapons worked and they fell into despair, a lone girl takes a stand wearing a red "Palette Suit" which wields a great, hidden power. Before long, allies gather around her to fight. And their friendship becomes the only hope for saving the world! (Source: ANN)

The only thing good about this show is the transformations.

I'm compelled to call this Madoka Magica of Winter 2013 without the dark plot. I mean, look. Bare with me. We have five girls. Just like Madoka Magica. All five represent a color. Four of them have magic. Then there's the fifth, mysterious girl who is not of this world. She looks like Homura. Maybe she is Homura in ~secret~. Or maybe not. Both have a theme of friendship. Both are twelve episodes. Think that sounds good, right?
Wrong.
At first it seems nice. Some awesome ass fanservice. A lot of butt shots. (Clothed butts, mind you.) The story seems cool at first. The beginning of the anime is great, and must I admit, if you like friendship with a touch of some yuri aspects, you'll like this. The issue is the story.
You got that right, the story.
So, yeah, they have to save the world from these things called Alones. They'll destroy the world, blah blah blah. Typical of all mahou shojo. It starts out with Akari getting powers that's cool and all. After her friend Aoi does, and then follows two other girls. Wakaba, Himawari. Seems nice, right?
Wrong.
I was fine with there being two girls with powers. Why add two more? Don't tell anyone, right? Oops. Did anyway. Now they're involved. Though, I don't mind that, it's a little uncalled for. I love all of them, but really, think about this. Why more?
Also, what's worse. They get a power up in EPISODE two. I will make this joke now to get it out of my system.
Docking.
"I WANT ME INSIDE YOU."
Because the two girls become one. It's essentially like that. It's a nice concept, but don't give a power up in episode two. Give it until episode five, thanks.
And it gets worse from there.
She gets power ups with all of them. Even the otherworldly girl.
And the ending.
Don't get me started.
Don't get me started.
The ending was horrid.
Also, have you seen My Little Pony?
Of course you have. So you know, they steal a line from it. The grandfather says "friendship is magic" in episode six or something. I shouted NO to that. And trust me, that no was needed. Now the ending. The ending was crap. I won't justify except that the ending ruins the entire thing. I mean, there were no surprises for this ending. None. I saw it coming a mile away, and what do you know
it happened.
So do I recommend this anime?
Sure, if you like asses in your face. But that's it. There's nothing else to look forward to for this anime.

SPOILER-FREE™
A-1 brings us the touching anime-original story of four shapely butts as they fight off aliens, or monsters, or something. Oh yeah, there are girls attached to these butts and they have characterization and stuff. And there’s a beach episode with boobs, but they give way back to butts. And then there’s a fifth butt, this one gets a close up within twenty seconds of the show starting, really setting the tone for the rest of the show.
Now seriously let’s have a review.
STORY 6/10
It isn’t entirely obvious, but you will notice pretty quickly that this is a mahou shoujo. Even though the characters get their powers from technology and friendship rather than magic, it is pretty clearly mahou shoujo, and a pretty unoriginal one at that. Honestly, most people will have predicted the end within a few episodes. The stakes are high, but the power of friendship comes through in the end. The story adheres strongly to clichés of the genre.
The story is frankly not too important in this anime. You watch this anime to have a good time, not to hear a riveting story. It holds together well, and arguably this unoriginality is actually a plus. The story may not bring anything new to the table, but it pulls it off with great skill. The way it delivers such conventional mahou shoujo story is actually very satisfying. This may not be the most intellectual anime ever, but the story is never opaque. I never once had to guess why a character did what they did or what the hell was going on, making this a great anime to watch if you aren’t very smart, or are drunk.
ANIMATION 8/10
Vividred operation is a very pretty anime. The sci-fi elements show excellent attention to detail. Characters and backgrounds are both attractively designed. There are very few parts that were lazily animated and although there were a couple of hiccups, the show was fairly consistent throughout. The action scenes are great and not padded with too much dialogue. The show in general does not shy away from difficult animation and provides plenty of excellent action.
There is a lot of fanservice. It doesn’t really detract from the show, but it will annoy some people.
SOUND 7/10
The music is upbeat and fits the mood of the show perfectly. The OP and EDs are good, but not stellar. Voice actors adequately fill their roles.
CHARACTER 4/10
The first thing you will notice about the characters (if you speak any Japanese) is that they are named after their hair color. Unfortunately, every single character is shamelessly copy/pasted from another anime. The worst offense is with not-Homura, I mean Rei. The characters do play off each other splendidly. Being an anime about the power of friendship, the friendships between the girls are well-developed, if a little too sunny. Like the story, there is nothing new to see here. Their personalities may not be nearly as molded as their glutes, but they manage not to be emotionless boards.
This brings me to the fanservice. If you are one of those people who can’t stand it, just skip this anime. There is a lot of fanservice, giving special attention to the posterior. A huge portion of Vividred is devoted to close-up shots of sweet, sweet booty.
ENJOYMENT 10/10
Vividred is a high-octane, feel-good anime that is perfect if you just want to have a good time watching. Generous action and glorious ass shots make this one of the most fun animes I’ve seen in 2013. This category is necessarily subjective, but I would recommend this to anyone who wants an exciting, fun but not very intellectual show.
CONCLUSION
Vividred Operation is like going to a concert of a really good cover band, like the Strolling Bones. Sure it may be completely unoriginal, but it’s executed almost perfectly. You may not have done much thinking, but you leave with a smile on your face.

A simple story about friendship and together, saving the world.
The story while fairly simple gives you enough while not rushing or falling behind, keeping pace well throughout.
The animation is fluid and quite colorful and well done.
The openings and endings go quite well with the series, along with decent background music and sound effects.
Characters while not incredibly detailed, are fleshed out enough to make a few individually memorable, and memorable as a group.
I watched this over the course of a few days, it took a few episodes (4 or 5) to the "meat" of the story and to understand what's going on from all sides. So if you're looking to try watching this series, I would recommend watching the first five episodes (instead of a usual two to three). I quite enjoyed this series more than expected, overall it was a simple yet well-done anime I would most definitely recommend.
