Plot
Taking place after the second movie, Shiki is in accident that leaves her in coma. After 2 years, Shiki wakes up but with a difference. The Male SHIKI, or as I like to call her Batman Shiki, sacrificed herself to save Cheerful Shiki, or the female Shiki, from death. By doing so, Shiki is left with a hole and is now left wondering for a purpose. She does not want to die yet she feels as if she has has no reason to live. Kokutou then seeks out the help of a mage which is none other than Touko. She meets Shiki and becomes apparent that she knows what power Shiki has. She decides to help Shiki learn how to use her Mystic Eyes ability. You know, the one were her eyes light up and goes to weird sonar vision mode, you know that one. It is explained that this power is able to allow Shiki to see the weak points of objects so they can die. I say objects and not people because throughout the movie, a spirit wants to possess her by filling the hole she has.
This movie has a very simple premise which is fine, but the character interaction and the transformation of Shiki is what sells this movie along side with the explanations of many questions I had going in to the movie. The Shiki we see in following movies in the timeline of events is not Batman Shiki, but regular Shiki just with a sense of purpose.
Characters Shiki
More explanation of her character, development, and her abilities are shown here and I absolutely loved it. She is trying to find a purpose, she doesn`t want to go back to her family since they would want Batman Shiki and exploit her exploit, but that side is dead so that doesn't make sense. She doesn`t want to kill herself either so it is a conflict that`s great to see. Her arc in this movie is ultimately self discovery. She doesn`t have her other half so she`s lonely, yet she now has her Mystic Eyes, and after getting attacked by a spirit, does she have a sense of purpose.
Touko
Finally seeing how she comes in to the story is great. She is part of a investigation group and is indeed the puppet maker from the second movie that was shown for 2 seconds. She is a mage and is very knowledgeable in the paranormal realm. She is the one that helps Shiki to learn how to control her Mystic Eye ability, with a little influence of Kokutou that probably went to her for help during Shiki`s coma. After this movie, I defiantly think she becomes a mentor not only to Shiki but to Kokutou as well. His skills alongside with his family connections in the police/law enforcement world did show up in the last movie, so I do wonder how their relationship is after this.
Kokutou
Albeit not here for very long or has a major impact to the story, he still shows his affection to Shiki. He goes to the hospital leaving her flowers even when she wakes and the only one`s that are able to see her are family members, doctors, and Touko. He is the one that involved Touko, and from there, he and Shiki works for her.
Animation + Music
Its Ufotable and Yuki Kajiura, nuff said.
Overall
Wile having one of the more simpler stories in the series with maybe the first movie coming close, it is great because of the character interactions in this. Shiki`s growth and journey for a propose was great to see. The amount of answers we get and explanations served as world building to get ready for what comes next, which looks like it is going to be a absolute battle royal with a new antagonist.

Every single movie in the Kara No Kyoukai series 1-7 is masterpiece tier is you can handle the lengthy amount of dialogue. This movie in particular is a bit less exciting than the others but is required to understand movie #7.
