World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman

聖剣使いの禁呪詠唱〈ワールドブレイク〉

Seiken Tsukai no World Break takes place at Akane Private Academy where students who possess memories of their previous lives are being trained to use Ancestral Arts so that they can serve as defenders against monsters, called Metaphysicals, who randomly attack. Known as saviors, the students are broken up into two categories: the kurogane who are able to use their prana to summon offensive weapons and the kuroma who are able to use magic. The story begins six months prior to the major climax of the series during the opening ceremonies on the first day of the school year. After the ceremony is over, the main character, Moroha Haimura, meets a girl named Satsuki Ranjou who reveals that she was Moroha's little sister in a past life where Moroha was a heroic prince capable of slaying entire armies with his sword skills. Soon afterwards he meets another girl, Shizuno Urushibara, who eventually reveals that she also knew Moroha in an entirely different past life where he was a dark lord capable of using destructive magic but saved her from a life of slavery. Can those whose minds live in both the present and the past truly reach a bright future? Delve into the complex world of Seiken Tsukai no World Break to find out!

Imagine if someone took Sword Art Online, stripped it of everything good about it, then forced what was left to snort cocaine. That is World Break in a nutshell.

One of my favorite anime, it has a wonderful and creative plot with good character development. Its fantasy mixed with modern theme is one of the best I've seen

"It's amazing how much destruction one person can cause".

Story 7.5/10
I actually love the story. It has its own greatness. The plot revolves around Haimura Moroha a young boy who inherited 2 past lives and goes to private high school with the concept of "saviors." Saviors are known as people who possess awakened memories of their past lives. There are two types of saviors: one who fight using weapon and one who fight using magic. Normally, every person only has one past life. But in the case of Haimura is completely different. One of his past lives is known as Kensei Flaga, the strongest knight that ever lived with his divine sword "Salatiga". On the opposite, his other life is as Shu Saura, the most powerful Dark arts user. Different than Kensei Flaga who uses his power to protect the country by fighting off nations by himself. As Shu Saura was described to be incredibly powerful, of having razed many nations, resulting in the deaths of many, which gave him the title King of the Netherworld. But even the strongest always have a weakness. Nightmares befall to the two of them before it can reach a happy ending. They couldn't save the girl their love the most. Now, with 2 past lives, Can Homura prevent the story from repeating itself? Can he protect his friend this time? With those 2 past lives powers he had obtained, can he change his future?

Art 5/10
The only one weakness in the anime is the art. But it's not really the worst. Still acceptable though. Just don't expect too much. For me, I still find it quite good and not really bother me that much though. Well maybe you want to see it for yourself to judge the anime art.

Sound 7/10
Sound really play important part in this series. I found that the Op is great and when the right time comes, you will found the sound for this anime is marvelous and simply fantastic.

Character 8/10
One of the keys to the success. Producer is sure genius to make such a great character's development. It teaches me to think outside the box. Each character has place in both the serious and the silly contexts of the story and humor and plot are blended well throughout the episodes. You need to see this for yourself. I'm quite sure you will be enticed by all the characters.

Enjoyment and Overall 7/10
This anime is fantastic. The concept that has been brought to the anime is great. No wonder I will rewatch this anime back though. The main storyline put me in uneasiness as the story goes on but I miscalculate it. It just great but not flawless. But, the anime also lack some aspect with made it's not really masterpiece but nearly to it. I kind of enjoy the story overall. Not waste of time to give it a shot. I prefer to give the series as a fine piece. For some reasons, I can't. Because I'm expecting more from the series. I actually kind of hard to give a good mark unless there are some few point in the series that I see deems the worth. This series never enough for it to approach average, but certainly enough to keep it from being one of the all time greats. This is what makes this a potentially polarizing experience. The series still highly entertaining experience for fans of fantasy and action for this season. Still, I recommend this. I'd recommend it any day, for anyone who wants to watch Op main lead, good story and interesting characters to be explored.

The story is unfolding and turning out to be a pretty nice one. There seems to be some deeper information that they'll tell as the story progresses. Although it is definitely interesting so far, you should definitely check it out.

This was a very interesting anime but it was lacking something I still like it but it seems incomplete so there might be a second season soon

I guess it's your average fantasy action anime. Story isn't really the best, animation seems to be rather bad sometimes which I especially noticed in the last episode. However, it's enjoyable because of the characters. It also seems that even tho there are yet again several girls after the male protagonist, the relationship between him and one of the female protagonists is a rather mature one. So all in all, it is enjoyable enough to watch.

While the premise may have you tilting your head and thinking "Hey, there might be potential in the show!", let me stop you in your tracks right now and assure you that no, there is no potential of greatness in this anime. At least, they sure haven't shown any signs of it 8 episodes in(It's a 1 cour anime by the way). Now, the reason as to why I'm showing such open negativity in my review is that I too, had some expectations after reading the synopsis. I mean, who wouldn't? With the right cards, playing out a story of reborn heroes could work out splendidly! Unfortunately, it doesn't even scratch the surface of the matter. What you receive instead is a horrible school life which sets its' harem 5 minutes in, not to mention said setting up of the harem is silly, but that's just opinions, much like the rest of my review up until now. The flashbacks at the start are there to provide a push in the story, which is fine, until said pushes are just to make him remember moves. Shit man, a few seconds of flashback just to say "I remember!"? Geez. Well, onto the 5 main aspects being graded.

Story - It's bad. Its' plot progression relies solely on our main character getting flashbacks to relearn his moves instantly and save him from any bad situation(one would argue it's plot armor, while others would argue it isn't because it's from his past? I won't dwell on this one, take it as you will). Other than that, it's what you've come to expect from mediocrity, MC goes into school for special kids, turns out he's even more talented than said special kids. Another point that irks me is that other than at the start of a heroine's side story, flashbacks will almost NEVER be informative and are just there to give the main character an instant boost in power(One's just too funny to pass up mentioning though, and that one occurs in the most recent episode: He remembers how to sword fight without prana. Uh, was turning off your prana making you exceptionally bad at holding a weapon until you remembered?)

Animation - If there's anything that needs to be said about the animation, it's the fact that it's very inconsistent as well as being poorly executed. Some frames feel like they're just missing and well, the fighting scenes just don't hold up. At all. It lacks intensity to convey the feeling of a fight.

Sounds - They're there. Seriously, I barely noticed any of the soundtracks, save for one which I found enjoyable. All in all, it's pretty generic. Moving on...

Character - Here is where the show shines. All the characters(or at least, most of them) are likeable. It feels fun to watch and the interactions are further supplemented and enhanced by the back stories the main character holds with some heroines. The main, Moroha, is a lot more proactive in forming is harem than other protagonists of the genre, which is pleasantly surprising. The other girls are picks of your choice, depending on the traits you look for in "waifus". While not exactly fleshed out, they have enough of a personality that you wouldn't think our main is conversing with a blow up doll. Lastly, the loli harem manager is the best girl hands down.

Enjoyment - Sometimes, you just want to go in with your brain off and enjoy what you're watching. This is one of those times... except when he has flashbacks. "I remember!" is a moment where all can agree to say "Can you not?". What's up with male power fantasies being so blatant these days? There isn't any sense of impending danger with the main being a walking pile of tricks and memories. Heh.

Overall - While I have written some bad things about the anime, overall it is quite a pleasurable experience, if only for the fact that the characters aren't obnoxious. At least it's your usual run of the mill anime, be glad that it isn't an Absolute Dud(Heh? Hey? Nice pun rite?).

5/10
