Animation is really quite nice (if you’re into 3DCG), but the story is just okay, and the ending is confusing for those who haven’t read the manga/watched the anime. Kato is a protagonist who is well developed, and I appreciate being able to see his backstory, but we don’t really feel much for the other characters. The dialogue can be cliched at times, and much of the movie feels like an actionfest (which may or may not be a bad thing). The concepts (like the Gantz sphere) are interesting, and the movie poses some interesting questions, like would you want to escape the hellhole of the movie’s setting, if you’re doing so well, what would you sacrifice for freedom, etc. But the movie often takes a cliched approach to answering many of the interesting questions it asks. 4/10 for story/dialogue, 8/10 for 3DCG animation– 6/10 overall.

Nunca he visto algo de Gantz en mi vida, y esta pelicula me entretuvo bastante en las cosas que pasaban y como me introducía a la franquicia, y todo lo que esta abarca.

Menos mal que no termina siendo un Tekken Vengance of Blood o un un Caballeros del Zodiaco en CGI, ya que aquí lo que tienen que contar, lo cuentan y de forma compacta. Eso si, ese final confunde mucho al espectador, ya que se ve que se basaron de la obra original y de ahí uno lo tiene que interpretar para que uno quede satisfecho.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to see this on the big screen. I usually prefer traditional animation over 3DCGI but the 3D was really well done here and it let the movie go all out with action, which is something that Gantz needed, becase let’s be honest, action is all the manga had going for it. Its a shame that they left out some badass characters for this adaptation, specially Muscle Rider.
Also the movie tries to be as standaloneish as possible, but its still a product for the fans. It will not make a lot sense for newcomers as the main plot is fastly explained in the first 5 minutes and you probably won’t even understand who the characters are supposed to be if you don’t already know them from the manga.
