This series is a very interesting one didn't know how I felt getting into it but it turned out to be pretty good. This series follows William Twining a descendant of King Solomon and has the ability to choose the next demon king while Lucifer is in deep slumber. King Solomon was chosen by God to be able to rule over demons and even angels. King Solomon choose to be with demons turning his back on god and the angels. King Solomon thought the way to feel something is by committing sin this is why he made contracts with demons of hell and created his great pillars. King Solomon was killed due to his lust for sinning and his lust for the demons. Thousands of years later William Twining is pronounced the descendant of King Solomon and must choose who will become the demon king. I really thought this series had a interesting story and really good actions scenes to go a long with it. I thought it was very balanced in story and action just thought it fell a bit short. It wasn't something that really sucked me in I was interested just nothing more then that. If you like a more supernatural type anime you might enjoy this anime it is just out of my genre of watching still none the less a pretty good series.

I heard about this anime through a weekly anime news letter. I figured, "I'm not watching anything, so why not?" And from then on, this show will forever stay on my favorites list.
As far as story goes, it's really not bad. It uses Solomon's bible story and demonology to really provide a deeper story. And good for you if you learn something! Another cool thing is they make quite a few European history references. Being in AP European history, I really appreciated this. And if you aren't very well versed in that field, not to worry; they explain as they go. My only complaint was how slow the story moved.
Animation was not all that special, but the artist, Utako Yukihiro, has come to be one of my favorites! I just love their drawing style! (However, all their ongoing manga are on a hiatus, including Devils and Realist)
Sound didn't really stand out, but the characters are the best part. Each character is so diverse and colorful (literally and figuratively) that I just couldn't get enough! You've got the fearless protagonist, the fraidy-cat best friend, and the suspicious butler along with crazy demons! But I remain an Isaac fan through and through.
Enjoyment was a definite 10. Even if the "battle scenes" weren't action packed, I still had a fun time getting attached to the characters and wondering what I would do if I were in William's shoes.
All in all, a great show. It does only cover about a fourth of the whole story, though. In that case, it's also a great read!

With great animation and an interesting concept, Makai Ouji's anime works to adapt the original manga. The manga is more developed, with a stronger storyline and breathtaking art, which the anime seems to fall slightly short on achieving. The anime also tends to skip some scenes, so for those truly interested in this story (and it really is an interesting read) it would be recommended to read the manga instead. However, the anime experience is not an unpleasant one.

Originally gave off a Black Butler anime vibes but after the onset when in some different incredible directions. Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist is one of the most magnificent anime seen. The animation was beautiful, characters fun, voice acting high quality, and the overall story intriguing from start to finish.

The bromance is really high as well in this anime but overall it was anime I wish they added a little more kinds of magic in the end not just some magic balls and repeatedly being reflected back but well I demand a season 2 for this.............
Story 10/10: I love how he being the descendant of Solomon and Solomon's story about being kind to demons and gathering them and those "B" angels really are annoying but they made the story better and more fun to watch . And I again still demand a second 2( I said that twice now) because it felt uncomplete in the end where they meet again and then ends there yeah I know there will be more fighting and enemies in the future. .........
Characters 9/10: I love the demons but there are the ones I hate for having so much lust over the ring of Solomon in the possession of William and he so needs to learn to control powers soon I hope so that he'll show them all and those and pathetic meanie angels e.e............
Enjoyment 9/10: I enjoyed how some of the comedy parts really fit and then never fail to make me smile or laugh and that the actions and magic are nice but I want more I want to feel the instensity and impact of it ........
Overall 9.5/10: Overall of my reviews just based on the characters and stories and enjoyments but let's also add the animation that's the score I'm giving it well the 0.5 is umm like more of expecting something more like yeah what I said the actions and I think there's more to this story than we know e.e........

I really wanted to like this anime. Unfortunately after sitting through 12 episodes all I could think about was how it was a complete waste of my time. I haven't read the manga myself so what ever that I say in this review I say it for the anime only.
Basically the entire show was a flatline, nothing special and nothing particularly interesting. At the beginning it shows some promise by leaving a few mysteries here and there which is why I actually stuck with it for 12 episodes, only to find a wall at the end of the tunnel. The story revolves around main character William Twinning who comes from a wealthy family and possesses extraordinary intelligence. He is also supposedly a hardcore realist, so hardcore that he still claims to not believe in anything supernatural even after just being slapped in the face by a demon. Despite being a realist, William is constantly surrounded by demons who are all desperately fighting for his attention because he is a descendant of King Solomon, who has the power to elect the next ruler of hell. This part of the story was what originally attracted me to watch this show, I was pining for a good plot with a dark philosophical undertone somewhat like pandora hearts and kuroshitsuji (mind you, the manga not the anime). However all that it turns out was Solomon pimping out demons back in the biblical times and William Twinning being a little twat and using everyone around him to further his academic career. The demon and non-demon characters are all pretty one dimensional and predictable. And if you're hoping for some BL in this anime I regret to inform you that you will be greatly disappointed. All in all, the story is weak with no character development and doesn't really go anywhere beyond flashbacks of Solomon the king pimp and demons fighting over the throne in hell.
The soundtrack is nothing special, I draw a complete blank when I think about how the soundtrack added on to the anime so it really wasn't anything memorable. The art was to say the very least horrifying. Maybe because I had high expectations going in to this anime but the art consisted of all the wrong colors on the palatte that made the anime look cheap and the amateurish. The absolute worst part for me is probably the action scenes. If you are an action fan I suggest that you don't touch this anime even with a ten foot pole. It was all wrong, just thinking about the action scenes gives me second hand embarrassment. You can really tell that there wasn't much going for this anime financially from its production, but they also failed to make up for it in the writing department.
I don't want to completely trash a series before reading the manga so I'm still going to give the manga a try because I've learned that you should never judge a manga-based series from only watching the anime. However if you're thinking about giving this series a shot I highly suggest that you skip straight to the manga. Don't waste your time with this anime that has no enjoyment value.

I really loved this anime. I'm a sucker for art in anime. The art was what got me into this and I'm super glad I watched it. Great story line. I fell in love with Dantalian, his personality was just great. I love anime where I can really connect with the story. I think this was a great watch and personally wish it didn't stop where it did. Anyway, great watch.

Story: Devils and Realist is about a perfect at a British boarding school, named William Twining. He happens to not believe in demons and the super natural, even after he discovers he has powers over demons. Says the demons are just an assortment of atoms and such. He also happens to be an ancestor of Solomon. The story overall was going good, aside from the pointless episode where they have a festival. The ending came off to me as a middle finger to the fans and there for I give one back and lower my score. 5/10
Animation: Was pretty generic, not bad or good, just forgettable. 6/10
Sound: The opening was well done in my opinion. Got me in the mood for the show every time, which is what it is supposed to do. I do think however the further I get away from the show the more I likely I will forget the OP. 7/10
Character: William Twining: The main character is an atheist who happens to have a power to control demons. He is funny in some regards for his ignorant disbelieve. He shows some character development, but not as much as I would have liked. Rather forgettable main character.
Dantalion: The main demon character is basically there for to protect William Twining till the end.
The other side characters from Sitori, the demon in drag, the house boy, the goat an lamb butlers and the various demons and demon lords were the reason I kept watching this show. Aside from Sitori. Kevin, Williams butler, is the best character in the show. 6/10
Enjoyment: Entirely episode to episode. One episode will be interesting wanting to watch more and then the next will make you wonder why did I watch that. Oh and the ending sucked.6/10
Overall: I have no idea why I completed this almost dropped at least four times but never could. Very average anime overall with a terrible ending and for whatever reason several demons in drag. 6/10

I recently watched this show.I didn't like at all.The synopsis when i read it made me think this was a cool show.It was not! The story after three episodes does not pick up at all.I thought it would be more well written but it was.The main character had powers that were never really defined. We don't know how he his powers or how they work.Usually some other character in the shows knows about the protagonist powers and tells the viewers thorough dialogue. But that doesn't happen.the characters are boring too.I feel like I have seen them to many times in other anime.I wish it was more well written.

Devils and Realist is precisely about what the title speaks. The story is set in England; William Twining is a perfect. His grades are always tip-top, he is an ideal student and is amongst the cream of the cream.
William is a solid realist, he believes everything is made of atoms. Silly things such as ghouls and ghost, he fears not. As they're simply an illusion due to electrical discharge, or fog, or maybe he's just dreaming, right?
Everything takes a U-turn when William accidently summons a demon (Dantalion) in his basement, while he was search for possessions which he could sell, in order to raise his school's tuition fee - after his uncle fell in to debt and all of the Twinings' possessions were seized. The truth becomes that William is the descendant of King Solomon. He hence carries the authority to choose the interim ruler of hell whilst Emperor of Hell (Lucifer) is in deep slumber.
The story follows through William's never ending denial of such Demons, and the demons never ending purse for William (the elector) to elect the interim ruler of hell.
A truly interesting struggle of power.
Now. My opinion on the series (7 episodes in)
Story:
A good, and fairly strong story. By no means is it boring, and keeps the user moderately engaged . Only negative aspect I would say, is that, there isn't much tension or suspense created which will strongly drive the audience to watch the next episode. At times it can be argued that this is a good thing, I too think so, however more tension and suspense would be appreciated.
Character:
Good character development. There isn't much for me to comment on, however it is in no means bad nor drags the anime down. An...interesting issue which I faced through the series, is that, it is somewhat difficult to distinguish characters genders. (i.e. Styry often acts as a female, and is too dressed feminine)
Enjoyment:
Certainly is an enjoyable anime. I find myself laughing a lot every episode. There is much comedy in the series; in fact I would say that the comedy is perhaps one of the strong points of the series. It is placed very well and manages to maintain a strict border between a comical, light-hearted atmosphere, and the more serious, life-endangering situations.
Overall I would say the anime is worth watching. It isn't much of a gem, however certainly does possess semi-precious qualities, in particular the comedy. The story could be better, for it to be more gripping and intriguing. However I do enjoy watching this show, amongst others.
