Taisho Baseball Girls
大正野球娘。In 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho era) baseball is still quite unknown in Japan and there are only a few male teams. After being told by a baseball player that women should become housewives instead of going to school, 14-year-old Akiko invites her friend Koume to start a baseball team in order to prove him wrong. During this time, when even running was considered too vulgar for women, baseball is known as "what the boys do" and they face many difficulties when having to find enough members, to get permission from their parents and also when learning about the sport itself, which they soon discover to be more difficult than expected.

An amazing anime. A memorable premise, a detailed setting, lovable characters, relatable conflicts and on the mark comedy. "Girls playing baseball?!" is a common enough idea in media but is rarely found in this medium, let alone taking place in the 1920s. The anime shows off the customs and technology of the time, marvelously combining the historical and sports well. It also avoids cliches of its genre such as drawn out sports game across multiple episodes, and instead has a more normal paced story. The cast is diverse and easy to empathize with and are able to provide dramatic and especially comedic scenarios. Nothing feels forced, while plot devices do exist in the story they aren't intrusive or illogical. You're mileage many vary with the ending but this is a must see show.
