The Future Diary: Redial

未来日記リダイヤル

Yuno Gasai lives a normal life as a first-year in high school. She gets along well with her parents and even has a small circle of friends. However, she cannot help but feel as if someone is missing from her life, someone so important to her that it was as if she had lived another life trying desperately to stay with them. After a class trip to the beach, Yuno returns home; but in the middle of the night, she receives strange messages from a voice only she can hear. The voice informs her of the person she is desperate to meet and that she must find him. Soon, she finds herself in a mysterious realm, her only goal being reunited with the person she cannot remember. Though obstacles stand in her way, Yuno will stop at nothing to meet her beloved once again. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This is possibly the worst ending the anime could have, luckily it was an OVA.

The pure nature of Mirai Nikki almost states that the ending cant be perfect, but yet this ending leaves the couple intertwined once more -with the rest of the characters living a perfect life- who then finish their quest to see the stars together. This ending in my opinion was purely made for the fans who cant handle the painful but overwhelmingly emotional ending of the series.

Although this ending was delightful and somewhat fixed my broken heartstrings that Mirai Nikki had oh so painfully pulled apart, stitched together and then once again destroyed, it doesn't fit in with this anime's know holds bard onslaught of emotional tension.

If you can only handle the happily ever after ending then this is for you, unfortunately it soiled this series' perfect ending.

A slapped-on edition of the original show that brings nothing new, and makes little to no sense. Nothing is gained by this existing, except perhaps the fact that some people might like this "new, heartwarming" (bullshited) ending.

I feel like in the manga this may have had better development. However the events depicted in this OVA are so rushed that they don't explain how anything happens or why it is happens. You're just supposed to watch it and enjoy it. The style of the original show is retained and it still looks quite good, with action scenes being the best example. As expected, the OVA still retains the original soundtrack from the original show, and frankly it is still really mediocre. However, there is a new OP and it is so good. Like the first opening, it is hectic and crazy. This OP would have worked better as the second opening for the show, and the second opening for the show would have worked better here. Yuno is the main protagonist however she receives no development. She just runs around and watches stuff happen, it is very underdeveloped. All around, this OVA could have worked better as maybe two or three more episodes. I'm sorry, I couldn't find any enjoyment from this OVA. While I could have enjoyed the original show if I turned my brain off, I just couldn't here. OVERALL SCORE: 4

I would've rather had the T.V series end this way, but Yuno getting her memories back was a bit of b.s. for me.  If Yuno in the second world couldn't comprehend or control her psychotic nature, how would innocent third world Yuno cope with the entire destruction of world 2 and the slaughter of those she killed?

Overall I enjoyed this, but believe it should've been extended.

This is not a series, nor is it a movie. Don't expect to be blown to bits with sparkly content and blood-gushing plot. Mirai Nikki Redial takes place after the 26th (last) episode of Mirai Nikki.

The best aspect of Redial, for me, would have to be that we're getting to see that characters in their original form, 2 whole years after the original series had aired. It's a refreshing feeling; Yuki's still his wimpy, half-assed self, and Yuno's still her psycho, casual yandere self. Just the way we like it.

Story

Throughout the main series, we saw that Yuno's love for her Yuki, brought forth several mind-boggling and unexpected events. This does not change in Redial; as per usual, a very surprising event unfolds during these precious 29 minutes. Plenty of action, mindfudge and what not.

Animation

What did you think of the animation in that main series? Whatever it is, slap it on to this. Asread studios didn't put much effort into overhauling the OVA with crazy CG or anything. Don't expect much. Better yet, don't even think about this.

Sound

Again, like the animation factor. It's not very important. Not good, neither bad. Just average.

Character

Pretty good. One of things which really impressed me was that the character development from the main series flowed through so well into the OVA. You may think different; essentially this is dependent upon each person's perception of each character. Though, I do think that this aspect was certainly one of the well done points of this OVA.

Enjoyment

Enjoyable. A little higher than average. Certainly not boring.

I have to say, I was a little surprised with the fan-service; didn't see that coming. Compared to the main series, it can be said that there is that tad bit more fan-service.

So what would I say overall?

Pretty damn good. I would think of this OVA as the cherry on top of the whole series. Nicely rounded of with a fairly decent conclusion. You hear, that?! IT HAS A FREAKING CONCLUSION!

Enjoyable, worth the watch. Recommended.

"We're supposed to go see the stars together," says Yuno and I sob. Yes, Yuno, we were supposed to watch a much needed wrap-up to everyone's favorite thriller. In Mirai Nikki Redial everything and anything that could go wrong, went wrong. So you want to know how exactly it sucked?

The story was so full of asspulls and sudden solutions that I could not suspend my disbelief. It tried to wrap up in one episode a plot that could last a 1-cour season and it failed badly. Repetitive animation, still frames, crappy coloring and 'are those supposed to be shadows?' galore. The characters were extremely bastardized to their very basic concepts. The only ones who did a good job were the voice actors.

Do not watch this. It will ruin your taste for Mirai Nikki and fill your head with revenge plans.
