Rare are those shows that truly grab the attention of the viewers from the very first episode, and even rarer are those that, due to their completely shocking and unconventional start, will make sure to keep you watching them until the end, despite having some parts in the middle where nothing much happens. This is what Ga-Rei Zero is all about.
In the first episode of Ga-Rei Zero, we get to witness the anti-paranormal squadron dealing with some supernatural monsters, everything thus far seems rather stereotypical, from the anti-paranormal squadron to the battle. But then, something happens, and the level of shock suddenly increases considerably. I must commend the creators of this anime for this move, because I don't think I would've stuck with it otherwise.
The majority of this series details the events that led to the shocking first episode. In this lengthy flashback, we are introduced to Kagura Tsuchimiya, a sad and dutiful young girl, who hardly knows her father and whose mother died during an encounter with a supernatural force. Her life changes after meeting Yomi, a strong and reliable girl who works with the anti-paranormal squadron. Yomi and Kagura's relationship quickly develops into a sisterhood, and they become inseperable, and this is where the series truly shines. The relationship between Yomi and Kagura is quite fleshed out and the bond they share is very endearing. This flashback reminded me of another flashback inClaymore that revolved around the relationship between Claire and Teresa, and to me, it was the best part of that anime too. But here's the thing, while Kagura and Yomi benefited from an excellent character development, there was hardly any character development for the secondary characters, with the exception of Kagura's father and to a lesser extent, Yomi's fiance. I would've loved to know more about the other characters because they all seemed interesting. I also would've loved to see more of the main villain, but he remained shrouded in mystery.
Another thing that I wasn't fond of is the battle scenes. This is an action anime, so a lot of focus should be spent on the execution of the action scenes, and quite frankly, I wasn't truly impressed with them. Sure, there were some action scenes that truly stood out, like Yomi's battle with Kagura's cousin and every scene during which Kagura's father fought some supernatural forces, because that guy is a badass. But, a lot of the action scenes were rather dull and stereotypical and even ridiculous at times (some 3D dinosaurs that appear quite often and some silly weaponry), which is disappointing for a series that tried to present something different.
All in all, Ga-Rei Zero is quite a solid series. Sure, it could have been better than it turned out to be if its creators would have planned a bit more thoroughly, but it's defenitely a series that is worth checking out.

It was good at first but I found it a bit boring around episode 8 where I dropped it. it might have become better however it wasn’t that exciting.

for beginning this anime start on a strange point but after the strange beginning this serie become a little interessing but .. this anime can have good things and bad things.. so in short thats not soo bad , depend on your genre
About The Story
the story have a pretty serious build up on relationships and follow a real path but in the first episode 1-2 , can be very strange and not understandable but after the 1-2 the real story gonna explain you correctly what is going on here and gonna continue to the final.. the story have some drama on it thats make the things more serious and more interessing this is not soo bad..
About The Animation and the Sounds
the animation is a animation of the year 2008 don't judge the graphics too fast .. because you are regular with the new 1080p graphics for a 2008 graphics this is not soo bad .. i like how the monsters are draw like the Ga-Rei the fight can be nice too sometimes.. and for the sounds you gonna notice some sounds effects are something u have already hear somewhere.. but anyway this not gonna bother you soo much... the opening song is good too i will give you the link here..
About The Characters
you dont have soo much characters but i think the most people gonna like Yomi.. because this is a nice character and the story is a little bit focus on her
Yomi Isamaya / you can confound her for a real slut at the beginning but you gonna know why after watching the complete anime she can be pretty nice but anyway...his weapon is just too awesome
Kagura Tsuchimiya / she is nice too but sometimes i just want to slap her because of his weak attitude when a monster is on front of her... she can be very strong when she want... i dont say this is a bad characters !
Kouji Iwahata / this guy have make me laugh when she become shy LOOOL but he is a nice characters i like his style xD..
Nabuu Brothers / this 2 guys are sibling .. and say (exemple : Nabuu gonna do something) this is happen each time they talk so this is not news to see characters like that..
Noriyuki Izuna / the power of this guy is specials but i dont very like this characters he have his place in the story but we dont see him fight soo much :/
Garaku Tsuchimiya / the father of Kagura we dont see her fight soo much but he is strong thats sad we dont see her fight more than 1 time in the anime..
Micheal Kohara / this guy is funny but we gonna only see her 2-3 time in the anime .. he is the one who forge the weapons for kill monsters so he is important but not in the story and he just appear 2 time in the anime or 3 time
Touru Kanze / sad thing.. thats not the protagonist... i have thinking this at the beginning but thats not the main character... he is nice but... you gonna see why im a little dissapointed by this character if you watch the anime..
About The Enjoymentthis anime is enjoyable but thats depend on your genre because some people can very find this anime boring but this is nice i like the concept he is not soo bad but this is normal he have some bad points sometimes..
so for be short if just dont know what to watch you can go for it the drama on it is pretty good .. everything depend on your genre !

You know I can tolerate something being pretentious as long as its really entertaining and its bullshit somehow enhances that entertainment example : Psycho Pass , then there is Ga-Rei Zero Fan Service trying to disguise itself as a serious plot and throwing shitty quotes at you : ''Will you kill someone you love because of love?'' , ''I wonder what my soul wants. I guess I’ll never know'' are you fucking kidding me go take a hike you garbage piece of animation With plastic characters , horrible dialogue, a soundtrack more fitting for a shitty B Sci-fi movie from 2002 , may I add it also uses ton of tropes and cliches from the make your cashgrabbing anime book , a fucking snorefest in the end and you still have the audacity to think you're something more and throw shitty dialogue at me and expect me to feel something FUCK YOU

After watching the first couple of episodes of Ga-Rei -Zero-, I came an inch away from just dropping it altogether, but since the fall season didn't have much else that interested me I stuck with it. About 4 episodes later I was really glad that I did stick with it. By the end of the season, this actually made my favorites list.Ga-Rei -Zero- does an excellent job of character development for Yomi and Kagura. In fact, it does such a good job it almost completely ignores most of the other characters, which was the one thing I wish was better. The artwork in the show is very clean, though dark (which was in line with the story so I have no complaints). The fights were dynamic and very well done, though some of the weapons and fighting were kind of "out there."The soundtrack was nothing amazing to me, but it did well enough at setting the feeling from what I recall feeling while watching each episode.Lastly, the story. There isn't a whole lot to say about it, because this is simply a precursor to the main storyline that exists in the manga. That being said, I thought that it was really very well done, giving us a background on the characters that we would need to know and setting up the general premise for the content. So, in a nutshell, I really, really liked this series. It had some cool action, some great character development, and didn't try to stretch the content. Ga-Rei -Zero- is possibly the best pre-cursor to an existing storyline that I have seen, and one that I would easily recommend to anyone that enjoys this genre of show.
