Step-brother and step-sister romance slice of life comedy anime. Stay away if you dislike taboo subjects but if your mature. This might appeal.

Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashii n da ga, known in English as Recently My Sister Is Unusual (or as HorribleSubs likes to call it, ImoCho - Another Shitty Sister Manga Adaptation), is an anime adaptation of an incest romcom manga. The story starts off with our protagonist, Mitsuki Kanzaki, moving in to live with her new family after her mother remarries. With Mitsuki's mother and stepfather going away, they leave Mitsuki home alone with her stepbrother, Yuuya Kanzaki. It should be no surprise that ImoCho was an incest anime using a very generic setup. Sadly, the writer adds a twist to the story (like most generic romcom anime/manga/visual novels/light novels do). This twist is the addition of the ghost girl who goes by Hiyori. Hiyori died being in love with Yuuya but was never able to have a relationship with him. In order for Hiyori to pass on and go to heaven, she ends up possessing Mitsuki and pursues the relationship that she couldn't have when she was alive.

Story

The story is nothing more than just a boring mess of ecchi fanservice and has some of the worst censorship I have seen in anime/ecchi/hentai so far. Every episode is just something you'd expect from the common ecchi anime except worse. Unlike most ecchi where it can be at least be somewhat enjoyable if you're in the mood for a perverted show, ImoCho does several of the common perverted scenes in ecchi but in a way that just makes you want to facepalm and bang your head against the desk wondering why this even exists. Later on, the story tries to bring in drama and have conflict between the characters, but it was handled very poorly, and took itself too seriously, only managing to make this dreadful anime even more torturous.

ImoCho is set up for a second season to explain several of the questions that arise but are ever explained. However, you can make a well-educated guess and predict the answers to these questions. I have made some predictions and I would be very surprised if my predictions turn out to be wrong. I honestly do think ImoCho is that predicitable. It still doesn't change the fact ImoCho leaves so much unanswered and is just begging for a second season.

Characters

The characters aren’t anything special as well. ImoCho has the dense and plain male lead with nothing special about him, the male lead’s tsundere imouto, perverted best friend who is just there for comic relief, the perverted best friend’s tsundere imouto, quiet bookworm, and the childhood friend. These archetypes have been before and several times better elsewhere. They don’t stand out and are only memorable because of how poorly done and underdeveloped they are. The most ImoCho goes with characters are Mitsuki developing a friendship with Hiyori and Yuuya developing feelings of lust towards Mitsuki.

Animation and Sound

The animation and soundtrack are nothing special. The soundtrack is very forgettable and doesn't do anything other than playing the background. The opening and ending are just an average harem opening and ending with crap animation. The animation is awful, often suffering from off model faces, aka derp faces. There is nothing noteworthy about the movement and colors, they're just awful. The backgrounds were mediocre and they are arguably the best part of the animation. Character designs are rather generic and boring and nothing separates them from every harem character ever other than their derp faces. The only possible exception would be the ghost girl, Hiyori, but her design just plain as well.

The voice acting was pretty standard. There were times when the voice acting was a bit better than usual, but it still wasn't anything worth praising. There were also times when the voice acting got very irritating. Usually the very dramatic scenes suffered from having below average voice acting. You can tell that they tried to be serious and emotional. They tried.

Enjoyment

I didn't enjoy this anime whatsoever. I was in pain the entire time I watched ImoCho. I hated the terrible “plot,” characters, and animation. The opening and ending songs are also annoying. It goes on down on my most hated anime list because of that terrible ending. It was just a slap to the face going “HA! You thought this over? Well too bad.” Stay away from this anime at all cost. It is not a must watch, not even for masochists.

Any feedback is appreciated, especially feedback concerning my grammar.
