Fantastic Adventure Of Yohko: Leda

幻夢戦記レダ

Asagiri Yohko is an ordinary high school student, and she is in love with a boy who does not know it. To help things along, she has written a song to explain how she feels but that song has quite a bit more than a couple of good bridges. Yohko learns that while she is listening to her song, she is transported to Earth's other-dimensional sister world "Ashanti." This song has the potential to open a gateway between Earth and Ashanti wide enough for a conquering force to invade and take over. And it is exactly why it was forbidden eons ago by the legendary warrior Leda who saw this coming. This Leda warrior's duty now falls to Yohko and some newfound friends to stop the onslaught and return the 2 worlds in balance. Maybe Yohko is not so ordinary after all. (Source: AnimeNfo)

Unless you got here from the RBRP, you are a strange person to have found yourself staring at an extremely obscure 80s OVA that is Genmu Senki Leda. Its description probably doesn't make any sense, but then again, most anime you really don't understand from a description and need to watch to get it anyway. So I'm going to try my best to translate it into something that makes sense.

Basically, high school girl wants to confess her love with a song she composed, and she's got it on a tape. She passes by her crush in the generic cherry blossom lane but doesn't have the balls to say anything. Then she is transported to a fantasy world and gets mahou shoujo powers. Quest to save the world ensues.

Hopefully that makes a little more sense. All I have to say about it was that it was completely generic and made little sense. I was able to follow the story for the most part, and it was uninteresting and is extremely forgettable. In fact, the only highlight was when things started to get trippy and dream-like. The animation got really weird at these parts to highlight it, and it wasn't really interesting, but fun to watch and nice on the eyes. There was no complexity to the story, no plot twists, no morals, no message, occasional chase scenes and action, not much to it. I could easily fall asleep to it. The only thing that really even kept my attention is that Yohko's character design is really cute. She herself didn't have any personality, neither did her talking dog partner, nor did that other chick that I already forgot about. The villain was a generic mysterious creepy world domination dude, and that was that.

In the end, Genmu Senki Leda suffered from a terrible story, mediocre and forgettable sound, poor flat characters, and only managed to seem sort of cool with some trippy animation sequences. It's an hour long and not worth your time, unless you want to stare at Yohko in her half-naked mahou shoujo costume.
