Fairy Tail Season 2
FAIRY TAIL (第2期)Magic is what makes the fictional world of Earth-land go 'round, and its many mage guilds work together—or sometimes against one another—to bring balance to that world. Each guild flaunts unique features in hopes of being the best guild on the planet. Lucy Heartfilia, a 17-year-old girl, is desperately searching for the perfect guild. After running from her father, she wanders the city in search of Gold Keys, for they unlock the Celestial Spirits that are so vital for her magic. With so many wizards around, it's a journey that's very challenging and dangerous to go alone. Yet a fateful encounter with Natsu Dragneel (a wizard who largely resembles a dragon) leads her to a guild known as Fairy Tail, which soon becomes her new home. Her happiness amongst new-found friends is overshadowed by the evil powers of malicious guilds and the mysterious dark wizard Zeref. Their lives are about to take an unexpected turn as they battle evil, fight for their guild, and uncover fragments of their past. It will shake the foundations of who they are as people, and help explain why Earth-land has fallen into this state to begin with.

(I try to keep my reviews short and sweet and straight to the point without giving away spoilers with that said lets get this show on the road)
The Fairy Tail series is undoubtedly one of the most popular one however it lacks certain characteristics.
Story line- This anime has the basic good versus evil aspect however that’s all. Each episode is just one huge fight after another which became so predictable and boring.
Art & Sound - both are decent.
Character- There was zero character development. They would often do flashbacks to create clear understandings of a characters actions. However, they failed to build a character up. Each character kind of stayed in
time with no advancement. BORING
Enjoyment- I generally enjoyed this anime. I watched to pass the time however it was nothing gut wrenching. It quickly came and left.
Overall - I really did enjoy watching this anime. Nonetheless when analyze it lacks character progression. A plot that both motivates and create emotions within the viewer. I personally like to connect with an anime. However I found myself mindlessly watching it.

So, Fairy Tail 2014?
It's a sequel to the series, since the manga got more chapters and I have to say that this is a series that over time, with getting more popular in Japan and I guess in the West, has become worse and worse.
The story starts where the original anime ended, the Fairy Tail guild trying to win the Grand Magic Games, it's still has the same old story that get's even worse, the character are "varied" but all of them follow the same path as other shonen characters in anime history, in the end if you think about it all of them actually share the same story, which is not what's intended by the creator, I presume.
All have a troubled childhood (no parents, being enslaved, being betrayed etc), then they get nakama powah and beat everything, no matter the gap in their power. In the end, what's the point in adding some many characters and not developing them at all?
The animation got changed, which is a bad thing, I always like how Fairy Tail was so colorful, now everything is coated with a gray color. The animation for the most part is weird in this sequel, some of the times it's actually quite good only to see in the next episode how horrible it is with lots still frames.
Music is the same from the previous anime, it's nice, can't go wrong with it. Most shonen do have good music.
Not a single arc changes, it always follows the same formula:
Villain appears ==> hurts some Fairy Tail members ==> Natsu gets pissed ==> they fight the villain ==> the "they" turn into Natsu ==> the anime completely ignores the rule it set, with friendship, and show you that solo is the way to ==> good guys win with the help of some deus ex machina or nakama powah.
Also, the last thing I have to say, some might disagree with me on this, but just because this is a shonen, where one characters beats them all, it doesn't have the right to make the character go through every fight like it was nothing, the only time we kinda get an idea the fight was "hard won" is when they say it out loud.
It's stupid how they can take so many hits, win and say it was nothing.
Now, you might say that all battle shonens are like this, well they are, but they shouldn't be since I don't get the point in enjoying it if you never see the MC struggle. Look at Bleach, Ichigo, even though he wins, he still lost a lot of times, horribly.
And he struggles to win a lot of times, look at the fight against Byakuya, Ichigo barely won and he was left bleeding barely able to stand.
All in all, avoid this anime, it's only getting worse.
If you want a long running battle shonen go for Bleach and/or One Piece, for other anime I would recommend: Hunter x Hunter, also a great shonen anime, Magi (both seasons), Gintama since it makes fun of the cliches in these kind of anime.

A review on up to about the first 20 episodes or so, I absolutely love it to be honest! I impatiently wait each week for the new episode xD The animation is a tad different than before, but It doesn't take away from the Anime at all whatsoever. I have recommended it to practically everyone I know (Otaku or not!), and it is by far the best Shonen Anime I have seen so far! 11/10 xD

I absolutely love this anime (all of Fairy Tail), and my comment about the current arc..... I miss Lucy's celestial spirits!!!

WOHO FIRST REVIEW!
Fairy Tail is easily one of the least enjoyable Battle shounen I've seen in a while. After a good look into the show you see that it does not give you anything new or something that has not been done better elsewhere. With that said, lets get into the reviewing.
Story - 3/10
The ''Story'' in this show does barely exist, as it never even tries to deal with its themes and goals. Natsu is suppost to find his father, but does he put any effort into it? Of course not. Not a single character seems to do anything to gain their goal, hence dropping the quality of the stroytelling immensely. instead we get this all too familiar scenario where the series just takes you one place to another, but compared to other shows doing the same thing, Fairy tail clearly lacks focus and does not seem to try with connecting the arcs into a (somewhat) proper story. This is something other shows in the same genre like Hunter X Hunter were able to do with little trouble. And even in the arcs themeselves the story seems to lack tremendously is depth and overall quality, with few good plot points and most of the time the show is just plain stupid. A very bad job for such an cool setting.
Animation - 6/10
Pretty average and generic when it comes to art style, but atleast the fights look nice and the animation as a whole is bright and fluid. the first show gets 7/10 for being pretty good despite its generic art style while 2014 gets 5/10 for just being mediocre. also long haired characters have glitchy hair.
Sound - 7/10
Fairy tail has pretty average voice acting, but also has an enjoyable and memorable OST, and their cast of opening songs are one of the strongest out there (long running shounen anyways). The endings are forgettable like every other show. Overall the sound is fairy tails greatest achievement.
Characters - 4/10
Fairy Tail as a wide character cast filled with boring stereotypes and forgettable characters in general. NO, BIG TITS IS NOT A POSITIVE. Anyways, while the character cast is vast, little is done to let you remember said characters, hell even the main characters are underdeveloped. The main 4 characters are quite enjoyable to begin with, but gets worse and worse as you go through the show, seeing as none of them develop or learn from their mistakes (especially for Natsu and Lucy, Gray and Erze gets minor development in the first arcs). there is no training and it seems like every win comes from a Power-up, or as I prefer to call it: an asspull. Every other character is very weak in terms of presentation. the few other characters we get to know have different personalites but no development (Laxus and Gajeel does not develop, they does a 180 out of nowhere). There are no villans worth noting either. The only on I liked was Hades, and thats only because he had backdrop and [Spoiler]relation to Makarov.[/Spoiler]
Enjoyment and final thoughs - 4/10
I understand why all the casuals love this. The animation is nice, music is good and BOOBS, but in the end you'll just waste time without learning anything from it. Fairy tail is as mediocre as it gets, as even Naruto is better because it atleast handle its setting. The fights and comedic moments in this series can be enjoyed as brainless entartainment, but everything else is painfully terribad to get throught. dialouge is shitty adn childish, and even in important fight scenes you cannot like the show since it bends its own worlds rules. therefore 4/10.
Recommendations
Other fighting shounen with a simular theme of going from one place to another would be:
- Hunter X Hunter (2011): A much more complex and thought-through Battle shounen. It suffers less from worldbuilding problems and has development on both sides of the spectrum.
- One piece: IT. NEVER. ENDS. One piece is not as complex as HxH, but still has a rich setting and intense worldbuilding. it does get repetetive, but can atleast bury some plotholes along the way.
-Magi the Labyrinth/Kingdom of Magic: Just like Fairy Tail it is very simple and has fairly Black/White morality, but it has a richer context and adds minor development to its characters.

I've not watched the new Fairy Tail yet but after hearing so much about it and searching it up on the internet about a million times I'm now DYING to watch it!!! First off...unlike the first version there's actually going to be some BLOOD...that's right...BLOOD in FAIRY TAIL!!!! And the openings aren't going to be as colorful and bright like they used to be and no spoilers...but...I've heard one of the main characters are going to die...
Plus the character design may be a little different...but tbh I kinda like it...I mean the original designs were pretty cool and awesome but the new one isn't too bad ya know???
But yeah...one more thing...
The openings will also have more rockish songs rather than the cheerful sounding songs and the series will be a LITTLE darker...so yeah...

Surprised so few have made reviews for this so far, so I figured I would try and clear up some things in the way of differences and similarities from
the original show and overarching Fairy Tail themes that repeat throughout both series. This review will be based on the anime series to this point
(episode 9 in the 2014 series).
Skip to the end for updates as I add them. Don’t expect them too be too long…
Plot/Story First of all, if you watch anime for the plot line, I feel like you may be disappointed with the overall plot of Fairy Tail, purely because
there seems to be no real overall objective to it outside the arcs for the first about 100 episodes of the original series. The show is arc-based,
where each arc has its own goals and problems arising. After the Tenroujima arc of the original series, we actually gain some sort of overall goal
with Zeref being the main enemy. One might argue that the goal is to find Igneel, because that was the goal set forth in the first episode of the
original series, but I’m not sure if very many of the arcs have anything to do with this “goal”, so I don’t consider it to be the goal (I
contrast this with One Piece, as it seems to advance the main character continuously towards his goal). I personally was fine with there not really
being a main goal as the series was more of a just for fun/laughs, and it was interesting watching the characters gain strength over time and have
their feelings for their friends lead the way. This may seem childish to you but to me it makes sense.
The storyline of the 2014 series is a continuation of the Grand Magic Games Arc from the original series.
Animation The animation of the 2014 series changed a bit from the original (apparently they picked up a new animation guy or something). Characters definitely
looked much different in the first episode of the 2014 series sometimes not in a good way, e.g.: Mato the mascot, and the new eyebrows of characters
appearing through their hair… For some reason though, I think after the first episode they returned a little of the animation to the way it was. A
reason for this might be that (at least this is how I see it) almost all anime like to exaggerate the first episode of their series in some ways. For
example: overemphasis on gender differences [ie: fairy tail original series episode 1], or overloading the first episode with action or
thoughts/feelings [SAO, Attack on Titan, etc]. Not saying this is bad, but just pointing this out, as it happens in both Fairy Tail series. Not a
killing point for me though. The overal animation has improved however. For example, the backgrounds of everything are less cheerful and more
“realistic.” Of course I’m not saying the show is in the slightest based in reality.. but it might look more like that if such a [spoiler] dark
underground dungeon of doom [/spoiler] existed.
New Character Designs:
[There used to be images here but they were removed when hummingbird.me turned into kitsu.io]
Old Character Designs:
[same problem as new character designs]
Blood is also now shown in the anime. all credit to rightful owners for images
Sound Sound quality of the subbed version is great( I don’t think theres a dub yet for the 2014 series). I don’t notice any issues. I prefer sub
personally, I can’t really explain why though… I actually started watching the original Fairy Tail english dubbed but switched when I got
to episodes they had not dubbed yet. Could never go back.
I love the music. Its amazing. Its timing is crucial in the anime. The music played portrays the mood very accurately.
Characters The best selling point of the original show for me was the characters. The characters are all extremely interesting and have their own personal
histories that tie into each of the arc’s, almost scarily, like the past coming back to haunt them-even though you know its just the writer
connecting it all. While I said there was little to no plot-line, the writer does do a great job of making connections or references to previous arcs
throughout the original series. For example: the author mentions in episode 13 that [spoilers] there are 5 s-class wizards in the guild, but does
not reveal who the fifth is until episode 70. Also, the way Lisanna is shown in the early episode of the original Fairy Tail where Lucy is looking at
that picture in the book in the guild’s library with dragon happy in it makes it seem like she will be important later on. Go back to that scene if
you don’t believe me… It like pans in on the her… I will say I was disappointed that Lisanna did not have any major plot developed around her
though ever since then, kind of a huge let down. We have not seen much of these types of references yet in the 2014 series because it has only been 7
episodes and these episodes are the culmination of the battles started in the end of the last series (its coming though, I’m sure).
A word about the characters: the main characters are all heroic in nature, and as the series progresses, some previous enemies turn to allies. Most
people hate this about Fairy Tail, but in reality, a victory is not a permanent victory unless you help reform your enemies. (I mean, look at world
war 1 vs world war 2 for example, or criminals in jail). Seeing the characters laugh, cry, and do what they love together is heartwarming some of the
time, while other times you might cry with them. Sometimes I felt like the filler arcs were better at making you cry or laugh than the actual show, so
I personally will say go ahead and watch the original series’ fillers. Others might recommend against it because the fillers of the original series
really are useless to the plot overall, and you probably could do without them.
So for the reason that I really like the characters, what they stand for, and usually how they act, I give the show a 9 for enjoyment, because it
really is enjoyable for me. I also like action in shows I watch. If you do not find these aspects enjoyable, the original show will be rather
pointless to you.
The first time strategy has anything to do with this show is in the 2014 series, where [spoilers] Mavis is a super genius… XD [/spoilers].
Everything else appears to be done without thinking things through very much as far as I can remember. If your into shows like Code Geass or No
Game No Life purely because of the strategy and psychology that goes into it, this is probably not for you.
Miscellaneous For those of you who like getting a message out of a show, both series have one thing to offer you: Friends are important, take care of them in their
times of need.
My verdict Overall, I give an 8 to Fairy Tail’s continuation series, taking all of these things into account, (remember this is what only one person got out of
the show,) I thoroughly enjoy both series, but I am liking the 2014 better because it adds in a little aspect of strategy, like in some of those other
shows I mentioned. I would probably only give an 8 to the original because it does not include that and the animation style was ageing. It still was a
rather good show in my opinion. I liked the action and freedom of it.
PS: Remember this is one person’s take on it, and that everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
UPDATE #1:
Episode 16 is out now, and its become very clear the show is going down a different road than before. I can’t say too much without spoilers, but
stuff gets intense when they try to leave the palace. For this I bumped up the story 1 point.
UPDATE #2 (9/22/15):It has definitely been a while since I added any updates, current episode is 76. Tartarus arc is next level. Story bumped up
1. The rest of the show is still basically the same old Fairy Tail (which is to say amazing). I would go so far as to say some of the feels you get
from this show rival One Piece now. Animation is still very good (8), Sound/soundtrack is still good (8), Characters are still amazing (10), and we
are still getting new character development which is always nice. Enjoyment is, as always for this show, top tier (9). Overall rating remains same
for now (8). Look forward to more updates in the distant future! I’m all fired up for this show!
Update #3 (1/29/16)End of Tartarus arc! Wow. I honestly was not expecting that as the ending. I like the occasional plot twist for sure, but man
was that over the top. The fights felt rather lackluster however, and honestly I was more hyped back when Natsu was fighting in the original show
than with these TERRIBLE still frames!!! In fact, I am going to bump down animation to 7 (3.5) for this! I don’t wanna see everyone standing there
with their mouths open for 5 minutes while you shake the screen! I get that you are trying to show the awesome power of things, but I honestly was
not feeling it in those scenes. Actually, I take that back… I was feeling it, just not in as cool a way as I could have with more movement on
screen, stuff falling in background, etc. Seriously just their head and the sky in a frame??? /rant
On another note, Fairy Tail Zero has begun! I am very hyped for this as it means more fleshing out of Mavis, and we get a nice history explanation
about the guild! First 3 episodes were great, the latest episode (4th in the arc, and I believe 93rd in the 2014 series) seemed kinda filler-y
though, we will see where they go with it.
Summary: Bumping down animation a bit, everything else remains the same.
Update #4 (4/3/16)-End of 2014 Series :(
End of 2014 series. Its been full of ups and downs, but my personal hype for it returning after this hiatus couldn’t be higher. In the last 2
episodes after Fairy Tail Zero, it seemed to have regained what (IMHO) were its original selling points: 1) its humor (that is only possible because
of the fan’s love for the characters), 2) the fact that they are a funloving family to each other, who will do anything for each other, and 3) the
enjoyment factor consisting of not having to deal with the idea of this huge upcoming plot hanging over them for what seems like the first time since
Tartarus arc started. The hiatus will be a long one…
Also, I need to comment a little on Fairy Tail Zero. It was definitely interesting seeing the past through the founder’s eyes. Lots of feels were
felt ;(. Since I’ve been watching them as they came out, I somehow managed to miss the fact that SPOILERS - Zera never actually talked to anyone
other than Mavis until like right before the big reveal… - /END SPOILERS. Looking back, that kind of was a massive tell, but I don’t come to this
show to look into it too deeply. All in all, Fairy Tail Zero was a good way to explain how the guild was founded through a nice 10 episode time jump
while there is a time skip for the characters.
The last episode was almost a perfect mirror of the first episode, which made it feel like it has come full circle. The characters are much different
than they were back then however. But now the new adventure begins. :D
