Story

K-On! the Movie follows the Light Music Club as they spend their last moments together as high school students before four of the five members graduate. During the second to last week of school they overhear the volleyball team talking about taking a trip to Hawaii, which makes them decide to take a trip of their own. They decide on going to London. While there they also try to write a song for the only 2nd year member, Azusa, as a going away present. Now K-On! fits into the moe genre, which is known for not always being very plot heavy, and this movie is no exception, though i really enjoyed the theme of the movie, which was that high school will come and go in the blink of an eye but the friendships you make there can last a lifetime. Because of this, story gets a 7/10.

Animation

K-On is animated by Kyoto animation, which is famous for works such as the three Key visual novel adaptations, Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star. The animation quality is for this movie is very good. The high quality of animation really shows during the concert scenes. Overall, the quality of animation is consistently good, giving animation an 8/10.

Characters

The characters of K-On! are the the ditsy, clumsy, easygoing lead guitar player and vocalist Yui, the shy but smart bassist Mio, the sweet and kind keyboard player Mugi, the upbeat drummer Ritsu, and the young but mature rhythm guitarist Azusa. Though all of the characters are pretty generic for the moe genre, they all have a very tightly knit relationship that makes their time on screen together very enjoyable. One thing that disappointed me was that there was not much character development, and for this reason, character receives an average score of 5/10.

Sound

The BGM of K-On! the Movie is pretty good, with one song standing out in particular, "Air of Northern Countries". Going away from BGM, K-On! the Movie has multiple concert scenes, which was a pleasant surprise since when i watched K-On! a while back there were only three concert scenes for season 1, and two of those were the same song. The Light Music Club, also known as Ho-kago Tea Time, plays 4 songs and has a short music video during the ending credits. Some people would say that the songs they perform are just generic J-Pop songs, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The voice acting is great in both sub and dub, though I prefer sub in this case since the voices are able to give the cute vibe that the moe genre has with Japanese voice actors. Sound gets an 8/10

K-On the Movie is a great movie about friends spending their last moments as high school students together before graduation. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the moe genre or enjoyed the K-On! TV series. All of the ratings plus my overall enjoyment come together to give K-On! the Movie a score of 7.2/10.
