Goofy show with well written characters that either make you care about them or are Aqua. If you’re on the edge of watching, don’t hesitate. Just dive in.

Simply Amazing….
The characters are all lovable albeit rather one-dimensional and quite predictable. The MC is humourous and the supporting characters are generic.
The comedy is great. But its not uniqur.
Its satire of the ‘stuck-in-an-mmo’ genre is enjoyable though. I very much look forward to the next season

Every anime season there always tends to be at least one show that comes out in which you never thought about watching because it looked like something that you would instantly hate, or just looked completely stupid. And this previous Winter 2016 season was no exception. What at first sounded like a completely stupid SAO wannabe series quickly turned out to be a series in that very “stuck in an video game” trope, but the thing that sets this show apart from all of those series is how it is a parody series that makes fun of that very trope.
==============================================================
~Story 6/10~
The story of KonoSuba is one that begins with the death of the show’s main character, Kazuma. Soon after he is faced with the choice of either going to heaven or to got to a parallel RPG-like world and being like the NEET he truly is, he easily took the parallel world. A few other things occur on this decision making but either way I’ll just let you the viewer see for yourself because it is actually quite funny. So off goes the main character and his not so friendly companion on their way to kill the demon king that ultimately does not happen in this first season.
On the surface the show’s story seems pretty basic, which is entirely true and that it because that is all it is trying to be. Instead of being larger than life, it is just trying to stay short and simple in order for the jokes to be more easily integrated into the show without trying to be forced. As for the rest of the show aside from all the jokes, all the series is consists of mainly: performing daily side quests, defeating the most random of “villains”, and simply just joking around with their newly gained powers of stealing girls panties… yes this show is really really weird and that is why I love it so much. As for all of the criticism I give of the show no matter what problems I have it will not change the fact how I just am love with this simple and easy to digest story with loveable and remember able character due to how simple they truly are.
~Characters 7/10~
None of the characters in the series are overly original, yet I just love how no matter how stupid each character is. They still all work in a very strange harmony with one another. Each of them has a weakness and another person counter balances one another. With this being said, they still can’t ever do anything right without screwing something up and causing more harm than they do good. In short all of them are not the sharpest tools in the shed yet they can still are good enough for the job… I guess.
Kazuma Satou is a sixteen year old pervert who is the main character in this show. There is nothing mysterious about his character, he is an intelligent dumbass. Kazuma just happens to have a ton of luck on his side and is easily willing to do whatever he can to make the situation just a little bit awkward than it needs to be.
Aqua is the obnoxious goddess of water who can cause lots of damage if she really want’s too. This however ends up biting her in the butt and ends up causing more harm than good. With this being said, she also instead would rather be perform her circus ability and make a show rather than help support the group. Personally I find her character enjoyable, but most people really hate this character.
Megumin can be explained in one word “explosion”. As an archwizard she had the opportunity to learn all sorts of different spells yet she decided to put all her cards in one pot and only focus on raising her explosion stat to the maximum, this being said she is a one trick pony. One other side effect with the extremely overpowered explosion attack is how right after using it, she can’t move her body at all for like ten or so minutes. This leads to some pretty funny scenarios of her having to be lifted by another character as he she was just a useless rag doll.
Darkness is an masochist knight. She often tends to have a hard time attacking her opponents because she often misses, at least she is a freaking tank and can take hit’s like they are nothing. There isn’t too much to say about her except for how she is please forgive my language but there is no other way how to word this a literal slut and goes out of her way to be put in some literal sticky situations and awkward situations.
~Music 5/10~
The music in this series is just average. Nothing bad but nothing good either. I do not entirely enjoy any of the songs enough to spotlight any of them, tho I do find it cool how each character has it’s own designated song of sorts. Out of these, the most recognizable one would have to go to Megumin in of which you always hear right before her famous explosion spell.
As of the Opening, I personally found it dull and forgettable. One that I personally needed to look up to even remember it in order to make this review. The high pitched voices of the voice actresses just make it nothing more than an easy skip in terms of openings to listen to. You know it is a bad thing when the instrumental version is nicer than the regular version.
The ending on the other hand I find to be an nice and relaxing song… forgettable, but still nice. One that reminds me of a nice farm like setting, something that you could easily see working as an Silver Spoon ending theme. I find it cool how at the end of the theme there is always a letter written by each of the characters explaining what happened in the episode in a humorous way.
~Art/Animation 7/10~
Saying how this show is from Studio Deen it is expected to be nothing less than average animation. Even tho the animation can be sloppy and derpy times, it still has what matters the most… heart.
Although I must say how it is kind of funny how at some points the show might have have really good animation one second, then the next it might be incredibly bad therefore making a certain scene just a little bit funnier than it already was.
~Final Thoughts~
Before the winter season began I personally believed I that this show would be terrible so I instantly just ignored it until a friend of mine begged me to watch it and in turn I tried it and absolutely fell in love with it. The series is just so funny and enjoyable that it is hard to explain. Other than that I find the characters ridiculously funny and love seeing them mess everything up every episode. But oh boy did Studio Deen ever surprise me for making a good series for once… let alone two in the same season, and now we have another great series this spring season in Sakamoto.
In conclusion, this series really surprised me and have taken into long consideration that I will be giving this series an 7/10 and am really looking forward to watching Season 2, whenever that is eventually gonna come out.

I’m going to be completely honest, I loved the whole idea around the show. Spoilers of the couple first minutes So basically a geek/gamer ends up dying trying to save a girl from being hit with a truck, and meets a goddess. He is then told he can go to a magical world much like the mmorpgs he plays, and is told he can bring any thing he wants with him there. So he cleverly picks to bring the goddess, and the story progresses from there.
Spoilers over.
However any essence of story gets tossed out the window for the sake of comedy that in my opinion isn’t really all that funny
and more cringe worthy than anything. So there are two important characters that join them that are jokes in and of themselves. Megumin who is basically a sorcerer that can cast very powerful attacks, but can only cast one a day since their power completely wears here out (i’ll be honest, i found her funny) and Darkness the clumsy knight who dreams of basically being married off to or in an abusive relationship of some sort, or destroyed being others shield, (She’s were most of the comedy just turns to cringe worthy). Darkness was funny at some times, but the joke just got old and her antics became annoying. There was one episode in particular around the end of the show I had to skip entirely because the writer’s used her want to be in an undesirable relationship in a rather perverted and gross way. It was supposed to be funny, but to me personally it went too far and I ended up having to skip most of the episode because of it. Whenever something exciting was going to happen something “funny” happened to fix the problem and they just went back to doing more boring stuff that didn’t amount to much in the end. There was one episode I particularly like which was later ruined by the shows cringey style of comedy. All I’m going to say is… the bathroom jokes were just really uncomfortable and awkward.
In the end this defiantly is an anime that isn’t worth the time or the effort, and if you skip over it entirely you’re really not missing anything except failed and awkward comedy that ruins and abandons the story.

Alright, if you've somehow completely missed this show this season, I'll summarize: four terrible people party up and go on a D&D campaign as designed by Monty Python. Now go watch it.
Konosuba is a strange beast of a show. I was expecting absolutely nothing from it in the first place, frankly. The synopsis sounded like a blatant SAO clone, and seeing how Danmachi turned out, I wasn't impressed, less so after hearing that Studio DEEN was at the helm. The memes alone about DEEN's "quality" speak volumes.
That's why Episode 1 caught me so completely off guard. It was funny. Actually funny.
Now, of course, humour is subjective, and not everyone has the same tastes, but Konosuba sets its laughs up in contrast to the usual "I-am-a-stone-cold-badass" and "I-can-do-it-through-the-power-of-perseverance-and-friendship!" cliches that permeate throughout the MMOtrap subgenre. Instead of telling the tale of an unbeatable warrior or an up-and-coming adventurer, we get a goddess with an IQ rivalling that of most toddlers, a wizard with an explosion fetish, a knight who is a full-blown masochist, and a seemly-average main character who has the snark and wit to deal with the three aforementioned. It's a recipe for a great big heaping pile of stupid, and it works.
Trope subversion isn't the least of Konosuba's talents, either. The world it sets up genuinely feels like a fantasy MMO setting, without being blatantly game-like. It adds a layer of (admittedly pretty thin, but much more than you'd expect) immersion to the story. From flying cabbage hunts to headless knights who would just like your party to quit dropping nuke spells on his castle, thank you very much, the world feels alive in a way that some shows aren't even able to accomplish with a full episode dedicated to exposition.
Lastly, the assets themselves. Animation can be derpy at times (this is still DEEN we're talking about, after all), but it works here in the context of a comedy anime. In fact, the facial expressions and reactions are perhaps improved by DEEN's style. When quality is required, like when making spell-casting look epic and otherwordly, they pull through. Sound is decent enough, and it does the job. The OP is a great indicator for the lighthearted tone of the show, and the ED is the kind of song you want playing in the background while you nap in a hammock on a warm summer afternoon.
Overall, I'm left with just one question:
WHERE IS THE REAL STUDIO DEEN AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THEM, KADOKAWA?

A parody of the SAO-like genre where some random dudes get caught up in a video game (and by video game I mean Medieval Fantasy RPG because that's the only kind of video game Japan knows of, apparently?) and have to live in said world.
Basically going for the SAO plot route of "defeat this objective to escape this world" it didn't choose the serious heavy weighting feelings like Grimgar this season, nor the wasted potential one like Log Horizon, nor the "hey let's switch games and add fairies lol" like SAO season 2.
Long story short it's a good comedy and definitely has a nice animation (my god I've never seen tits animated to resemble actual tits with actual tit physics I can't unsee it), nice sound in general and a story that still holds potential as of episode 5.

This is a review made only after the airing of the 5th episode but I made it anyways that's just great I think this show is. It's only going to be a short one because I know nothing about making a full length review.
First of all, I would like to start off with just how unpredictable this show is. While there are, at times, some predictable occurrences, I'd say at least 95% of the comedic situations in this anime come completely unexpected. This unpredictability, in my opinion, is what makes Kono Suba so funny and great. Sure being predictable doesn't make things not funny but in my eyes, not only is it harder to make it unpredictable and originality, which contributes to my my appreciation for the show, but makes it at least twice as funny for me.
This anime time after time does a great job of making fun of cliches in anime set in fantasy settings. It makes fun of the "chosen one" archetype, It makes fun of individuality (I won't spoil it). It makes fun of almost every cliche archetype in fantasy anime. One of the things it makes fun of that love the most about is the common indecisiveness, and hasty decision making. What I'm referring to is when a protagonist and/or his allies make drastic or complex decisions when there was much easier and simpler way of accomplishing that goal. For example, people ask why, in The Lord of The Rings, Gandalf didn't just give Frodo a ride on the great eagles. Stuff like that.
Also the facial expressions are meme ready. Top kek. 10/10. spot on. That's what my avatar is at the time of this review. Also my skype profile picture and my Disqus profile picture.
I don't regret this premature review one bit.
