Unique take on the harem genre, but the protagonist is alas bit too passive for my liking. I mean I’d have punched somebody, or two people, at least once by episode 12 xD.

Well, I’m finally making a review for this. In all honesty, it’s hard to give this a bad rating, as I did really enjoy it. But… er, let’s just jump right into the review.
Story
The story is actually very clever and comedic. A girl who is absolutely crazy about boy on boy love, turns into a beautiful girl over night because she lost a bunch of weight from the shock of her favorite character dying in an anime. After this, several of the boys at school fall in love with her, and she isn’t sure how to react to them. It becomes a race to the finish as each of the boys compete against each other to try to steal her heart.
Characters
Surprisingly, all the boys have their own unique personalities and are all very likable. However the girl character they introduce, Shima, seemed… rather basic to me. While she may have some spectacular moments her character leaves a lot to be desired. If anything she was just annoying because she constantly drags Serinuma away from the boys, the actual interesting characters, and instead have a rather boring scene of her being a flirt or them going crazy over some yaoi couple. In the end her screen time is just wasted and could be replaced with much more interesting scenes. Sure she’s entertaining when she’s with the main cast, but on her own she’s not a very interesting character. Her interactions with the boys are hilarious and intriguing, but when she’s alone with Serinuma it’s basically the same thing over and over again. Shima is a great character for the others to bounce off of, but alone she tends to be generic and not as unpredictable or interesting as the other characters.
The Ending
So, now we come to the big issue, the ending. As I said in one of my post, “Endings however are also very important because they sum up a story and either influence the viewer to watch their other works (and a sequel if one exist), or it could possibly influence them to avoid that specific creator or not have a good attitude to the idea of a sequel.* I also stated, “Most viewers can see straight through marketing ploys and writer’s trying to over hype a sequel and put it down in an instant. It’s not a good strategy, and I hope writers eventually realize that in this day in age, it doesn’t usually work.” As you may have guessed, the ending was a horrific marketing ploy for the Manga. So, as the story progresses we see Serinuma begin to change her attitude to real life boys and actually begin to form meaning full relationships with the main cast, a lot of them hinting at her seeing them more romantically then she ever did before she changed. We can see this shift in attitude, which is one reason why the ending is even more startling and disappointing. It comes to a point were they all confess and she has to decide which boy. She actually struggles over this a lot, seeming to like them all in their own way. Again making it seem like she has truly changed her idea about boys and relationships. However, in the end, she picks now of them saying her true love is the fantasy character mentioned before and going back to square one. After I made a post about this, I was then informed the manga was ongoing and in it she still hadn’t picked a boy yet. Basically, we both agreed that the ending was a marketing strategy to get viewers to want to read the manga. It’s a shame that writers let endings and just shows in general go down the gutter trying to use it as a change to advertise their other form of the work or over hype a sequel. They’ll leave it at a bad note to make you want to view the other work or the sequel, rather than having the ending wrap up the series in a well written conclusion. It’s sad for me to see writers are pouring their works down the drain from desperate marketing ploys instead of taking the time to make it well written, and well, put all their effort in it to make it a satisfactory work of art.
Conclusion
So to truly sum up what I felt about the ending, here’s a quote from the rant I posted, “ Serinuma seemed to evolve and be ready to take on romance, getting farther away from the fictional world and more into reality. However, in the end she digressed back into her old self and ended up not picking any of them! To be honest, I fell in love with all of the characters and seeing it end like that for them was just frustrating.” And, from my marketing ploy rant, “I’d rather support and continue to follow creators who are aware of how important a good, well developed beginning and end is, rather than one who always tries to use the end of their shows to advertise a planned sequel or other form of the work.”

If you’re looking for something a little different this anime comes in pretty good. I’m a bit of a sucker for reverse harems but even my boyfriend could get into this due to the comedy aspect. It doesn’t take it’s self too seriously as a show about courting, but it’ll definatelt curb your free time and give you some laughs along the way.
