This anime is dark when it needs to be, and gives you next to no breaks in it's roller coaster of a story. Not one case taken is simple and easy, and there is always, if not more than one, a bump in the road. The animation is good, but great animation wasn't necessary. The music was great, although one track was repeated very often. The characters are very, very interesting ranging from a detective who spend almost all of her time inside to a mob boss that works with said detective. I really enjoyed watching this anime and was alway interested in what would happen next.

Now, I'm going to start this interview off with saying I bought it on DVD. So I knew it as the name "Heaven's Memo Pad".
Upon seeing this anime in the store, I thought it was a show about NEETS. I mean the subtitle was "It's the only NEET thing to do". But it really isn't a show about NEETs at all. The main girl of the show, her hobby is being a detective. Sure it isn't an official detective, but its still work. Another one of the guys is a college student. Not very NEET at all.
So basically what it boils down to is a detective show. Eh. I found it boring and slow. The cases aren't particularly interesting. Characters are pretty decent though. Very little character development but I did like some of the people by the end of the show.
I know its a really big assumption, but with a show about NEETs I expected a show about a shut in guy that meets a NEET girl. Which they have shenanigans in her room, video games, anime, MMOs etc. Then the show would shift to them opening up to each other and they really want to change, at least become more social. They help each other out with coming out their shells but it doesn't work out too well, when the show ending on them finally able to break their lifestyle.
A bit generic but you know what so is a detective show. I just wanted a cute show about a cute NEET girl ;____;

Outstanding art and fresh animation that really grabs you in. The characters and plot have a charm that takes you into their world. The mysteries are truly dripping with twists and enjoyment.
Story - The story of Heaven's Memo Pad is fairly decent, however the plot is somewhat weak and uncoordinated. This emerges from the very episodic plot which places a limit on the development of characters. Despite this, each episode was fully enjoyable. Throughout the anime the story remained very consistent in some cases. The outcome of a case can sometimes be unpredictable, and that makes it enjoyable. The plot lines all tie into the main character Alice (the NEET Detective), who is a computer genius.
Animation - In terms of animation, there is little to say. Heaven's Memo Pad art and animation is something worth mentioning. The animation stays consistent ensuring the efficient, smooth quality of every scene in every episode. The lines are crisp and the backgrounds are eye catching. The animation during the opening theme is beautiful especially with the piano piece being played by a computer keyboard. Overall, the animation is smooth and an enjoyable piece to watch.
Sound - The sounds was suitable in most aspects, fitting appropriately in all the right places. The quality is ensured although there are occasional parts where you can't help but feel that something better could've been used. The score on this anime was decent, mainly due to the sound director Jin Aketagawa (noted for anime such as Nodame Cantabile and Honey and Clover). The sound allowed for some intense scenes, but also more mellow interactions between the main characters.
Character - As previously mentioned, the episodic nature of the plot resulted in the underdevelopment of some characters. Little is known about the various back stories and origins of the NEETs group. Occasionally some bits and pieces are mentioned in particular plots, however all in all, the characters were a big unresolved mystery. Side characters are introduced and made central to the plot line only to disappear in the next episode. The main characters do have interesting personalities and leave an impression by the end of the series.
Enjoyment - I honestly enjoyed the mysteries in Heaven's Memo Pad but it fell flat with its underdeveloped characters and plot despite the great animation and sound.

I´m not saying that i remember much of this anime, because I don´t, but what I will say is that what I do remember it´s that i enjoyed this anime very much, not because of the NEET detective element, although it´s an interesting adding and very much the appeal of the anime, but because of the very different characters that you get to see in this anime we have the protagonist who is very much much a normal person that interacts with a world that he doesn´t know of, and very mysterious girl, and that interaction it´s what brought my attention to this anime. Although I won´t say that the detective part is in some way off, because as I´ve said before I don´t remember, I did enjoyed it very much as I think that a lot of people would.

Overall (8/10)
If you've watched shows from the Mystery genre before and liked them then this will definitely be a show you should try out. If you haven't seen one before I'd recommend watching something like Hyouka first, which is a great show to gauge your interest with. And if you're just not into the Mystery genre, well you can be rest assured that there's nothing different to see here.
Story (7/10)
The story mainly revolves around main character, Narumi Fujishima, a lonely high school student who is unable to make close friends due to his families frequent moves. However his loneliness doesn't last long because he soon meets Ayaka who convinces him to join the Gardening Club with her. Ayaka later introduces him to the tsundere loli hikimori NEET detective Alice, and he ends up getting dragged into her NEET detective force. Working as Alice's assistant Narumi works together with the NEET detectives to solve cases within the city. (basically the summary on the front page) - The story itself is pretty solid and it definitely has moments that can really leave you at the edge of your seat. That being this show IS rated 17+ so it has its fair share of adult themes ranging from gambling, drugs, violence, and prostitution. It has its fair share of dark and depressing moments. Also, Alice's motivations for being a detective were extremely difficult to understand let alone follow...when she does go into monologues about being a honoring the living and shaming the dead vice-versa it's hella confusing. On a side note: I still have no idea how Alice is able to afford her living expenses when she doesn't appear to charge money for any of the cases she solves...
Animation (8/10)
Animation was done by J.C. Staff, probably most known from their work on: Index, Railgun, Pervert Prince and the Stony Cat, President is a Maid, and Pet Girl of Sakurasou. I think they're a pretty good animation and studio and they've had a pretty good track record so far. Heaven's Memo pad definitely doesn't disappoint either.
Sound (8/10)
The OP is decent, not too memorable or forgettable either. I liked the ED a lot but that could just be personal preference. In the end the music really depends on the viewer's own preferences and I'm not going to be a harsh critic when it comes to things like that.
Characters (9/10)
All of the minor characters were great and memorable for usually one defining trait Ex: (Tetsu: Gambler, Major: Gamer, Hiro: Gigolo). Narumi had some huge character development as the series progressed, going from a timid and shy dude to someone who could stand up and fight for himself. It's definitely easy to see his progression and I was quite impressed with his growth as a character. As I mentioned earlier Alice is a very "special" little detective who rarely leaves the security of her room. Not really as much development from Alice but she remains a loyal and trustworthy character to the very end.
Enjoyment (8/10)
Overall I definitely enjoyed the series quite a bit. It wasn't Hyouka level of enjoyment for me but Heaven's Memo Pad has it's own style to it. Definitely worth the watch for any detective fans out there as there aren't that many anime in the Mystery genre.

I started to watch this show with very minimal expectations since I still consider mystery shows as something that simply isn't my bravado. I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be something more than meets the eye. Besides, with a loli as the lead investigator, it might be hard to take it rather seriously.
Kamisama no Memochou is a show that centered on Narumi and a simple mishap that took place in a motel that lead him to the adventure of a lifetime. Being stuck with a bunch of NEETs, forced to work in a ramen shop, rubbing shoulders with a yakuza group and eventually becoming the assistant of one of the most adorable looking detective in the city all happened in a blur and he has no choice but to go with the flow. The events that followed strengthens their bond with each other and it just kept getting better as the show continues. Being a show that is semi episodic and often works on different arcs, the flow of the story is great but still suffers from certain flaws and deus ex machina moments. With very few episodes to spare, I won't be surprised they manage to squeeze too much into it and still manage to leave us a bit satisfied. But since it was short, character development is rather lacking on most characters, especially among the 3 stooges of the group (Tetsu, Hiro and a dude aptly named Major). It would be nice to know them better if only there were more episodes. Story wise, it is a bit lacking, but it is a good thing they tackled only the arcs that mattered most. It is open ended but makes you happy that it ended the way it is. The themes here are rather dark and realistic. In fact it is too realistic it may be considered a taboo to non-mature viewers. Prostitution, money laundering, the yakuza, suicide, and even illegal drugs, they tackle it like all like it was nothing. This might pose as a warning to those who think this show is all sugars and rainbows considering of how cute the front cover is.
Characters of the show is the main reason this show stood out. Most of them are well rounded ones and they often resort to abrupt decisions that really makes ends meet when situations call for it. All I can say is that the relationship between each characters worked well and it helped altogether in the flow of the story.
Animation wise, there really is nothing much to see here besides the beautiful Shinjuku backdrop and the well detailed NEET hideout of Alice. Action scenes are not really something to write home about and yeah, there are so many dead air moments that, although helps with the ambiance, might bore some people.
Music wise, I guess they are alright, but nothing groundbreaking. The OP and ED in the end are just adequate and the only music that truly stood out is the mumur like techno sync tune that plays in very crucial moments especially when Alice is doing her analysis or doing a serious speech.
Overall, a hit and miss. We could not ask for more but it still left us in the dark. The enjoyment now solely lies in the audience.
