Boring as f*ck, cliche, and very mediocre. Don’t know how I got to episode 8 before dropping…

What's this anime about?

Obviously MECHA, that genre with robots and futuristic environment. Should you watch this? If you love MECHA then watch it! Its fun and so cool!

*Beware* this has an Ecchi tag in it..so..if you know what I mean. Watch this ANIME!

Genre:

-Mecha (Well its the main genre)

-Romance (For a romance lover as myself, I love this genre :3)

-Comedy (Romance + Comedy and Mecha? What could be better?)

-Ecchi (Well this genre only appear in SOME parts of the anime, it shouldn't bother you :3)

The Story:

IS (Infinite Stratos) is a school where they teach girls to pilot and train to use the IS (its the name of the robot you use). A boy named Ichika Orimura was able to activate an IS and the governments put him to the IS school where he can learn and operate the IS. His life starts in school filled with girls (Ecchi part :3)

Likes:

-The story, the way the producers put the storyline is awesome

-Characters, they have a unique thing in the anime. They come from various countries

-The ending, a very good way to end a wonderful story! (but wait there's more! Season 2!)

Dislikes:

-The robot fight is not that good, they always fight so slow and they end fast

Sound & Animation:

Songs: Straight Jet (Opening song) is a really good OP song, it really matches the theme.

BGM (Background Music): When the tension finally reaches its peak, the futuristic robotic BGM starts to play which makes you fired up!

Animation:

I must say, its really good. Super HD, super awesome, super detailed animation!

And last....

Characters:

Ichika Orimura: The boy who was able to activate an IS and got placed in the IS academy by the government.

Houki Shinonono: Ichika's childhood friend who is also the small sister of the creator of the IS.

(Well, it wouldn't be fun if I told you EVERY character right? :3)

Romance + Mecha + Comedy? What could be better? I'd really watch now if I were you.

Infinite Stratos, it is an anime about these mechs called IS which can only be piloted by females for whatever reason. Except, for our main character who is set up in a harem situation he can't escape from. Let's look at it shall we, and see what is so Infinite about Infinite Stratos.

Story (4)
Infinite Stratos is about a world where these machines called IS's were built. Now here is the kicker, IS can only be piloted by females. The one exception is our main hero who unexpectedly is the only male who can pilot one. Oh by the way if you can pilot an IS you are sent to this all female school. Talk about a set-up for a harem situation. The story is a typical harem situation, and the main character will end up wooing his harem which consist of two childhood friends, a reverse trap, and two foreign exchange students excluding the reverse trap who is also a foreign exchange student or as the series calls Cadet Representatives.
The plot if it can be called that is just the character development of the characters in the harem. There is no real linear story in the series, just small bits of character development in a slice of life environment. Although the series is not episodic, it really doesn't have a lot of connection to the previous episodes or at least a very loose connection. There is a good world mythos connecting characters to the world itself, but again this isn't a literally masterpiece like Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere.

Animation (7)
This anime is pretty and has some good background designs. Although I must say I don't like the desing of the IS units, mostly because they are impractical. For a 2011 anime with comparision to Horizon, it isn't bad, but it isn't state of the art either. The battle scenes are interesting, and the IS themselves in battle all have different techniques which is showcased by the beautiful fighting animation. The characters are also diverse to the point, even the characters who are minor in roles are different from each other.

Sound/Music (8)

The opening theme is pretty catchy as is the ending theme. The music throughout the show is pretty awesome too and helps set the mood. I will say that the series's best point is its sound of mechs fighting, weapons clashing, and guns firing. The music is also pretty good accompaniment to the series and again is a high point.

Character (7)

The characters are interesting, but also annoying. This is a harem, but unlike others in the series there is some character devleopment, but also a lot of character regression. Ichika Orimura himself is the main character and he has a wide assortment of harem supports.

This includes Houki Shinonono, who is the 1st childhood friend we meet, and is also the younger sister of Tabane Shinonono who is the genius who invented the IS.

Cecelia Alcott is the Cadet Representative from Britain, and she is a tsundere in terms of her relationship with Ichikia.

Huang Lingyin is another childhood friend of Ichika and is a cadet representative from China.

Charlotte Dunois is a reverse trap and the cadet representative from France, her father owns a powerful IS manufacturing factory.

Laura Bodewig is a strict, but latter becomes cute and innocent towards Ichika. She is the cadet representative from Germany.

The support characters are unqiue and all interesting, but only Charlotte, and Houki really have any character development. Ichika is a pretty weak harem lead, but there is hope in season 2 that he will finally grow a pair.

Enjoyment (6)

Although I was hesitant with this anime, because the mass feminism apparent form the girls in this show. I do say that I relatively enjoyed it, although it wasn't a masterpiece. I watched it only because of two reasons. One my friend said it was good, and then people on the internet said it was like Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, which it of course is not. It wasn't a bad anime, but I don't know if I will pick up the second season or not.

I'll be honest, I went into I.S. expecting nothing but fanservice and typical harem faff. Have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

It's not winning any medals for a complex story, or tear jerking romance, but it does a helluva good job and keeping you entertained, either with harem slapstick or awesome action scenes.

And about that harem side... It's refreshing to see an anime with a love... hexagon to resolve the romance with one of the girls actually winning, rather than the guy dancing around the fact that all these girls like him but never actually choosing one, and in I.S. he even chooses the best girl of the lot.

(For those of you who are fans of the other girls: That was a personal point I made so don't lynch me for it).

Getting back on track. If you go into this with high expectations you're going to be disappointed, but it's definitely worth your time if you just want some cool action or some good laughs.

Infinite Stratos is an anime based on
a manga based on a light novel of the same name. It was produced by the studio
8-bit and licensed by Sentai Filmworks. It is a 12 episodes series including an
OVA and a second series planned to be released this fall.

Plot

Japan has created mechanical
exoskeletons Known as IS’s which can only be piloted by women. This is before a
certain teenage boy named Ichika Orimura seems to have the power to operate one.
He then is enrolled into the prestigious Infinite Stratos Academy. Where he
finds he is the only boy in the whole school.

Do you know where this is going? You
do don’t you.

Of course, every girl in the school
wants his D**k.

This, unfortunately, leads to this
anime being a stereotypical harem/romantic comedy anime with fan service up the
ass.

However, there is some serious shit
in this show. Like unmanned evil IS’s attacking the school. But this means
nothing in the whole scheme of things and is brushed off.

Characters

Each of these characters can be
summed up in one sentence.

Ichika – bland

Houki – tTundere

Cecilia – Annoying rich girl

Ling – Lolicon

Charlotte – “it’s a trap”

Laura Bodewig – Crazy German

The only character I say has any redeemable
qualities is Ichika sister, Chifuyu, and even she falls under some stereotype.

With rom coms like these anime have to create
interesting to distract you from the obvious clichés of the genre. So I think it’s
fair to say that the characters are not the best part of this anime and
considering what type of anime this is, that’s bad.

Presentation

The only redeemable quality of this
anime is its sound and animation. The animation mixes CG and 2D similar to
anime like tiger and bunny but in my opinion even better. Such good animation
and music is somewhat wasted due to this anime’s cliché story and characters

Conclusion

This anime is not something I can recommend
to everyone. But if you like what you heard here go check it out. And this shit
is getting second season. (sigh)

I was going to write a review for this earlier, but I decided to rewatch the entire series in one sitting before I did. Infinite Stratos was not what was advertised, I was expecting something completely different than what I got. And the answer is yes, this is not a good show. It will not be remembered in 10 years. The only way that will happen is if the light novels do something drastic. But if it was a bad show, why is my score so high?Infinite Stratos' story is simple enough, 5 girls all find out ways how to get in Ichika's pants. They haven't really given another story for me to consider, which is expected as apparently the story in the light novels doesn't pick up until the 5th one. So right now, it is a generic harem with mechs. But these mechs aren’t any normal mechs; they can only be piloted by females. Or so the world thought until Ichika stumbled upon a personal IS. He is the first, and as of now, the only male able to pilot them. I can only guess that it has something to do with magic, as physically, males are much stronger than females. Another theory suggests that females can fit into an IS and males can't because females do not have a penis, and Ichika's is so small he is able to pilot one. The story is the shows weakest aspect and do not watch this if you are looking for a deep compelling plot. The second weakest aspect of this show is the characters. We have our dense protagonist, Ichika, who couldn't tell if a girl liked him even if she were sucking his dick. He is the definition of clueless and it is quite frustrating to watch him be completely oblivious to all of the girls around him. Then we have our harem members: Houki (Japan), Cecilia (Britain), Rin (China), Charlotte (France) and finally Laura (Germany). Houki doesn't really have any redeeming qualities, except for tits that can sink the titanic. I'm not sure what is up with Japanese girls having the biggest breasts out of any other girl in every anime, but Houki is no exception. Oh, and she's a tsudere... I guess. Cecilia is the stereotypical British snob who makes terrible food. That's the best summary I can give of her as I literally do not know what else to write. Rin is the smallest of all the girls, and never really got anywhere with Ichika. She has a short temper, I guess. But other than that she gets the least amount of screen time. Charlotte is by far the best and hottest character on the show. She has many redeeming qualities including boobs that can change size for the convenience of the plot, deep purple eyes and silky white skin. Not even Ichika, the gayest of the gay harem main characters can resist that... Or so I thought. She is the best character on the show in my opinion. Then we have Laura, the warmongering German who sneaks into Ichika's bed at night. She apparently isn't aware that sleeping in the same bed as a boy naked might give him the wrong (or right, depending how you look at it) impression. Aside from Charlotte, the show has no memorable characters. The animation and sound in this show is excellent. I typically don't like CG effects in anime but this show does it excellently. The mech fights are beautiful and fast paced. The way the camera moves during them makes you feel like you're part of the battle. The music during the battles is usually hit and miss, but the battles that have good music are noticeably better. The OP and ED are J-pop, so I wasn't a fan of them. There is also not one average looking girl in this show, they are all extremely hot.Despite this shows flaws, and it has a lot of flaws, I found myself thoroughly enjoyed and thoroughly annoyed at the same time. I am fully aware that this show is bad, but it's so bad it's good. If you want to sit back and watch some mindless entertainment, look no further as Infinite Stratos fits this bill perfectly.
