In a dark, cramped, underground world of endless tunnels and shafts, people wear protective suits and live out their modest yet happy lives. The princess of the underground community, Patema, goes out exploring as always, inspired by her curiosity of the unknown depths of the world. Her favorite spot is the "danger zone," an area forbidden by the "rule" of the community. Despite being frequently chastised by her caretaker Jii, she cannot hold back her curiosity for the reason behind the rule, because no one would tell her what the "danger" was. I strongly suggest giving this one a shot. This is a great story, you wont regret watching it! Only downside.. TOo SHORT!
If only they made a movie.. The description HB gives pretty much sums it up. I will say this is a great sequal (visa versa) to the 2012 Upside Down movie.
Here is my summary.
Caretaker Jii, despite his effort to keep princess Patema safe. Can't control her from her natural instinct, to expand and explore, her curiosity. After a hard lecture by her elder, to never explore the shafts and tunnels that are supposedly forbidden zones. She couldn't help herself after thinking of the past when a dear friend of hers, before departing on a "long journey" gave her a photo of the "real world." Afterwords bored and distraught with her claustrophobic underground world. Explores the danger zones where a terrifying creature called "Batmen" reportedly lurks. After an encounter there with one of the supposed "Batmen" Princess Petema discovers a huge shaft that disappears into the darkness above and below. Patema accidently falls downward until she finds herself in a topsy-turvy world unlike anything she has seen before. (Both worlds were seperated by different gravitys.) Forced to come to her bearings with a solitary boy named Age. Who has, from her point of view, had a very surprising outlook upon things in this advanced surveillanced dystopian world. From this point, the animes theme, BIG BROTHER is watching you. A ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT where rich live in prosper, and the poor suffer and die. The rich are made to believe the sky (where the poor live and work for the rich) is where the sinful go and therefore are the "undesired ones".
