I have no other way to describe B-Project other than a soulless, lifeless, cynical grab at the lowest possible common denominator. It barely passes the cursory "so bad, it's good turn-off-your-brain" sort of guilty-pleasure enjoyment factor. The characters are near indistinguishable from each other, having a bare handful of traits that can easily be summed up in a single sentence; i.e. 'The Dumb One' 'The Strong One' 'The Sensitive One' etc. The boys are near identical to one another, and if you can name two of them five minutes after an episode is complete, then I commend you, sir or madame, because you are better at this than me. The lynchpin on which this all sits, though, is Tsubaki, who is a flaccid, empty space even by Harem Heroine standards. She has no personality outside of an earnest desire to "do her best", which isn't a personality so much as a weak resume.
The character designs are also flat and uninspired. While it's all very shiny and pretty, it is so fucking generic looking, it's impossible to invest because there is nothing interesting to look at. While I appreciate that they avoided Tsukiuta's weird CG dance numbers and stuck with 2D, the fluidity of movement (when there is movement) is all that really sticks out. The sound is generic and boring--I couldn't tell one group from the other--and it's so obvious that this anime is just a marketing vehicle for the actual idol-group, B-Project, it's almost enraging in it's naked, corporate shilling. I understand--anime and music are businesses, and the point of business is to make money--but can we please have something interesting to look at! The only way this could have been salvaged was if it went into full on, campy, guilty-pleasure camp. But it's not even worth being guilty over.

I dropped this work after 4 episodes. I was bored by episode 1. I was enraged by episode 2. I felt used by episode 3. By episode 4, I felt unclean. I will not be returning to this work, and if you haven't picked it up, I recommend skipping it.

In my it an enjoy-able anime and a exemplary anime. the cast that is in charge of this anime did astounding job. I hope that the characters developed more as the anime goes on.
