OK, to be fair, I haven't read the manga. However, I'm not reviewing the manga, I'm reviewing this piece of crap. If you enjoy panty shots, little to no character development, and repetitive stories, this is the anime for you!
The premise is promising but it doesn't really go anywhere. The animation isn't bad, but it isn't great either. There's a lot of recycled animation, particularly the transformation sequences, which seem to make up 25% of screen time. The characters are pretty much stock harem characters: the bland MC, the 'best girl', the gag boobs, the loli etc. I watched the entire show in a vain hope of something interesting happening. The final episode was almost interesting, but the MC's reason for fighting (and the fight itself) was so goddamn boring and cliche that it just solidified my dislike for him.
Overall, the anime has a promising premise, but it's wasted on generic harem antics and repetitive story-lines.

Huh… remember a time when monsters were legit scary and no teen girl in their right mind actually had the urge to fuck them? Well, times have changes a lot… and even anime is guilty of making monsters downright irresistible not only to the females but also to the males.
So, instead of being afraid of the monsters in your bed, you actually want them in your bed! And my friends, Rosario+ Vampire is one the main reasons of that unholy desire. So, without further ado here is my review of said anime!
Rosario+Vampire is a fantasy, romance, harem anime about a teenage boy named Tskune who ‘accidentally’ gets enrolled into Yokai Academy, a school built for monsters specifically. And by monsters I do in fact mean the teachers and students are all magical and mystical beings. Tskune being a human, must keep his identity a secret or else he will possibly get killed by these monsters.
Like I mentioned earlier this anime is a harem, and boy… do have some lovely contestants who are fighting it out for our oh so desirable male lead! *sarcasm*.
However the twist is this show is that these girls are supposedly horrifying and demonic creatures that you should fear…. Fear what? Being smothered by their milk bags? On second thought, that genuinely looks terrifying!
The first girl in Tsune’s harem is Moka Akashiya, the innocent and sweet girl who is so not Tsukne’s favourite *cough cough sarcasm *. Moka however is a vampire and truth be told, other than sucking Tsukne dry *oh what did you think I meant by that* she basically has no traits of being a vampire? Like she can survive in the sunlight, and garlics or holy crosses don’t affect her, so she’s not really a vampire but a leech to be honest.
Her only weakness is water, but she drinks blood which is 70% water …. Yeah that totally makes sense I guess! *sarcasm*.
Moka despite being likeable for the most part, ends up being the generic and rather dimwitted love interest who basically has a rather boring personality. But, Moka does have one thing that makes her stand out from the rest. Meet Moka’s other half, the badass vampire Queen who can kick ass like no tomorrow while showing off her ass like there is no tomorrow! This is actually the real Moka and sweet Moka is basically the tame version of Moka we get when she puts on her Rosario. This Moka despite coming off a bit clichéd at first, is too be honest the second best girl in this anime. Well, in my opinion!
Then we have Kuromo Kurono, the flirty girl of this anime who is so awesome that you can only hope that she will get it on with Tsukune, even though a girl like her deserves so much better. She is especially well known for two things *wink wink nudge nudge*. When she isn’t busy breast feeding Tsukne, she is a kickass succubus who lacks character development, but becomes likeable and loveable with each passing episode.
We have then have the witches Ruby and Yukari, who get the most character development despite having hardly any influence on the story as a whole. I feel they were shoehorned in for the purpose of having a harem and didn’t really come to the story’s benefit in any way. *show sexy clips*. On second thought, the show had some benefit from them!
Finally, my favourite of all these girls could possibly be the lovechild of Gray Fullbuster and Juvia Locksar and that is Mizore. The kuudere/ dandere girl of this anime who is not only the best looking girl, and also some what emotionless and kind at times- literally being an ice queen. Mizori got a fair amount of development and even though I didn’t think she was right for Tsukne, I still think she deserves to be in the lead role rather than Moka.
As for Tsune, there is nothing great about him because he is yet another dense and bland character, who is not really male lead material. This show would have been a shit tonne better, if they instead chose the perverted werewolf Gin as the male lead, because is by far more interesting and I care more about him even though we hardly see him all that much!
But, to Tsune’s defense I admire his loyalty to his friends and how he will go to great lengths to always be there for him, which makes a bit sense why all the girls throw themselves at him!
It’s his indecisiveness and his obvious favouritism of Moka that annoys the living fudge out of me and don’t even get me on started on ‘Oh tsune, oh moka clip’. !
So, despite all the characters falling into the classic harem stereotypes, I must admit I more or less adore the characters of this show. You will definitely find yourself rooting for one of these crazy ass bitches! Trust me on that!
Fanservice truly never bothered me that much. It’s something I learn to deal with, and I don’t usually hold it against a show if it has any. In fact, sometimes I like fan service when it is being cleverly used for comedic purposes. Look up Sakurasou if you really want to know what I mean by that.
But Rosario+ Vampire’s fanservice was truly unbearable! I mean, not even two seconds into the first episode and I get to see panties. Like really, I am not even kidding that I lost track of the number of times I saw a huge close up of some girl’s ass! The number of panty shots is higher than the death toll in Attack In Titan for crying out loud. In fact, I would be surprised if the show can go five seconds without showing someone’s fucking underwear. The fanservice sadly got worse in S2, because we even get constant scenes of someone’s boobies! I am sorry it makes it really hard for me to take this show seriously. I know you are not supposed to take it seriously, but jeez they could have toned it down a bit. But, no they had to use it in order to lure in more fans!
Show unnecessarily degrades itself with all the fanservice and I really wish the show would have given the respect all these girls deserve. Like seriously, this issue could have solved if they just wore pants instead! Rosario + Vampire would not have received such poor scores if it wasn’t for those damn short skirts!
Despite ALL the fanservice, there are still things that make this show more flawed than it needs to be. For starters, the show tries really hard and fails to incorporate drama in the first few episodes. It initially all felt forced, but to my surprise later on the show succeeds in forming a proper balance between comedy and drama. The show in case you didn’t know is obviously not be meant to be taken seriously, and at times is often viewed as a cash grab which is highly the case. None the less, it has this sort of charm to it that has me begging for more episodes and no I am not talking about all the oppai!
I actually ended up getting attached to the characters and chances are you might also ending up caring for them. The fourth break walls done by the so called bat narrator and other characters at unexpected times are entertaining and it’s like the show knows its bad and basically boasts it! Like WTF?
Reason why I would consider it to be quote unquote bad is because it is filled with so many clichés. It has a bathhouse and a beach episode. Like wooow! This show is a perfect example of wasted potential as it could have been something great, if not a masterpiece with a Harry Potter like school and awesmazing monster girls, but sadly that did not happen! *sigh*
The romance too was disappointing to watch because it seems like it goes absolutely nowhere. It is just forced into the show to create some tension and keep the audience interested in the show. The romance could have been something great if they gave more focus to Tsune’s infatuation of vampire Moka that was often hinted in the middle of the show. They should have explored their relationship more, but being the type of show RV is, they fucking did not!
The romance was not the only thing left hanging in the air, because the show did not also elaborate much on what the monsters exactly learn or do at Yokai Academy. Not, to mention it becomes boring at time by always summoning vampire Moka at the end of practically every episode to have some way to end each episode Like that is just lazy!
The English dub is actually one of the show’s main highlights and it is pretty darn good if you ask me. Everybody did a neat job, but Alexis Tipton as Moka was perfect choice with her sweet and lovely voice and Tia Ballard was excellent portraying Mizori, the best girl in my opinion. Jerry Jewell, however gave the best performance but portraying, yes a bat! This bat is awesome by the way! So, yeah just for the bat you should check out the English dub if you feel up to it!
There is nothing much to say about the animation other than the fact it’s very generic and could have been better for something that has a lot of action scenes. But, it’s nothing that bad and given this show’s atmosphere, the animation quality is just fine. The character designs are however wonderful though for all the girls, and thank god does not sexualize them to High School of the Dead’s level!
I honestly believed that I would end up hating this show, but truth be told I don’t. In fact, despite how stupid and clichéd it is, I still enjoyed it.
It sort of has this charm that makes me like it, and I guess since the comedy is on point and the girls are likeable I ended up liking it more than I expected to. But, if you came up to me and said you hated this show I wouldn’t be surprised. And if you also came up to me and said you liked it then I wouldn’t say you are wrong to like it. In fact, since the ending was unsatisfying I would actually like to see another season of it- with hopes however that the fanservice would decrease, even though there is a unlikely chance of that happening!

One of my first animes, I wholly enjoyed Rosario + Vampire. It's worth a watch for sure, and it remains one of my personal favorites :)

Okay so before you ignore this and look at the short ones you better FUCKING pay attention if you read this. I liked the manga of Rosario+Vampire, let me get that clear THE MANGA.
Whereas in the fucking anime it is the same thing happening, OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. The second season was just 6 episode of cooking curry mama. This won't spoil anything but the only story development is physical, if you know what I mean. The human boy just gets saved by the group of girls, which they add a new one every 3 episodes or so, nothing happens between the characters. Sometimes you want to kill whoever made this anime *cough* Gonzo *cough* If you watch this you are wasting your time. Don't go watch it because you want to prove me wrong, I will warn you now that if you watch this you will be put of anything that people call like this anime.
In the second season it was just a misinterpretation of the Manga, they just made up the rest after the first season because the Manga hadn't progressed that far yet.
DONT GO NEAR THIS IF YOU HAVE ANY PRIDE AS A ANIME WATCHER.

As a anime... it is kind of bad. However as a ecchi i knew what i was getting into and i found that i enjoyed it i found the romance to be frustrating but hilarious. i would say that besides No Game no Life it is my favorite ecchi.

This anime has a big major problem in it. The Romance is out of place and corny that i find entertaining-annoying. The fight scene is really fast with Moka's finishing one kick she'll send the enemy flying and that's it end of story. The anime is lacking of so many aspect but if the continue the Rosario + vampire 2 S2 i think they might just cover every bit of mistake in the previous season.

NOTE:: I wrote this probably a year ago for a forum trying to defend this anime. Many of these opinions have greatly lessened due to having watching many things which are vastly superior.
SPOILER ALERT:: There are spoilers in terms of character development, plot (if you can call it plot), and a bunch of other things.
WARNING:: if you watch this and hate it, don't blame me.
Now that I'm done trying to avoid any possible litigation, here is my review of Rasario + Vampire (and the Second Season)
Rosario + Vampire was personally much higher than some of the other, I will say more "formulaic", anime because of how our man hero Tsukune gets accidentally transferred to a school for monsters. The name of the school, which while absentmindedly looking up Japanese mythology and other things, is Yokai Academy (in English meaning nothing to me) but translates to "Ghost School" ~roughly~. He immediately meets Moka the Vampire and hilarity ensues as she uses him for food while they fall in love over 2 seasons.
The Man (Men?):
Tsukune Aono: Useless man who has no powers in a world of monsters. Slowly changes to become less useless. Cares for all the women equally (I know. Kind of generic for the show type). Trying to avoid spoilers but in the show he becomes more unique. Changes the most by end of Second Season. Honestly one of the better men from the Harem genre because he isn't a breast-obsessed maniac and has some self-control.
Ginei Morioka: A Werewolf: Also a peeping tom and hyper-pervert. Not much else to say. Basically playa-playa and has some important roles.
The Female Cast a.k.a. The Harem
Moka Akashiya: Vampire. 2 personalities. 1 is really sweet and nice (The primary one who interacts with everybody most of seasons 1 and 2) and the other is the "real" Moka who kills everything and has the powers. Both use Tsukune for food. Both learn to love Tsukune (etc. as they all do.). I personally liked Moka but found her to be a little annoying (the Pink Haired one) because she was the moron woman of the bunch. yes, she stands up for everybody but she was the least intelligent of everyone in comparisons.
Kurumu Kurono: A succubus. You can easily guess what she wants from Tsukune when she has her first episode and subsequently does in all the rest. She has the most... gifted assets of all the women. Honestly loves Tsukune as well and tries to have Tsukune without using her "Succubus powers" (Take a wild... wild... guess). A close top favorite considering there is only one person I liked the most...
Mizore Shirayuki: <3.The snow woman (A Japanese Mythological equivalent to the succubus... but with more snow). She is essenitally a stalker-woman who starts out very colds and... warms up (Ha!) to the cast over time. Also tries to take Tsukune by her traditional means (more than once) but then esolves to do it through... "THE POWER OF LOVE!". Honestly... truly honestly... my favorite woman in almost any anime. She has a special episode based around cooking (<3 as a chef myself) and it was pretty hilarious. Secondly, the song she sings (I watched the English dubbed version rather than the Japanese Subbed version because I can understand English and read enough every day as it is) was beautiful. This is why she is my favorite. Plus, her powers were pretty awesome.
Yukari Sendo: A witch (The mob yells "A WITCH"). The lolicon. I don't feel like saying much. She is the only child at the school (It's high school) because she is a child genious. Has her own episode about wanting to be big (Ripped off the Tom Hanks Movie Big?) and then learns about how it isn't her body... blah blah blah. Attacks everything with washtubs (hitting everything on the head).
Ruby Tojo: Another Witch (A WITCH!). Much more interesting than Yukari but they make her lines terrible. She has like 1 per episode (second season) about why she has some odd job and we really only find out at the end. She controls plants.
Kokoa Shuzen: Moka's little sister. Very violent because Moka isn't the real Moka but a fake Moka (like an exact opposite -too nice- because of the rosary she wears) and just wants her sister back. Everything she does is to get her back. Enslaves the narrator (which was hilarious) as her minion.
Animation Quality: 7/10
It was pretty freaking good. Now, if you can't tell, one of my personal favorite animes is Fate/Zero. They had the budget to purchase a small country in terms of animation costs and I will henceforth judge everyone based on their animations... which were flawless. Especially during the fight scenes. So, Rosario gets an 8. It was good and had some cute and creative elements, but not the greatest ever. You can easily look for the anime online and judge it for yourself.
Story: 6/10
Not a 7. It is a Harem anime and I am not going to say the most creative one either. A very entertaining one, but not the most original. Useless guy and interesting girls have unusual problems. Go and some sidestories. My issues with the show was that the creators decided to become too formulaic. Every time Moka transforms (almost) we have to listen to that same little rant about "When the rosary seal..." and the full animation. It got annoying. Also, you know when Moka will suck Tsukune's blood. They stare at eachother for ~20 seconds saying each other's names. Other formula stuff as well but less expected.
Characters: 8/10
I will say these were a little more redeeming of the show. As I described them, I might have been a little short with the good parts. I am a little blunt to be honest, but it was funny and charming (all of them). They were the redeeming part of the show for me and the fanbase (Sorry to the haters. Go away now please).
Music: 8/10
Ok. This score is so high for 1 reason and 1 reason only.
I will start with the normal music which plays in the background and during the show. Not memorable at all. If I could remember it, it is fit with the show and was appropriate but went under the dialogue and was correct. Nothing special. Maybe occasionally orchestral etc.
Both opening and closing themes were sung (and potentially composed) by the voice actress for Moka Akashiya. Now, she is actually a pretty talented singer. But, more importantly, the second season's opening was disco (DISCOTHEQUE). In fact, while looking this up, every character has a single sung by the actor and produced by King's Records.
What I meant to say is the anime's music is decent.
And, that's about it. Overall I would give Rosario + Vampire a 7.25 out of 10. I may have sounded harsh but have fonder memories of watching it.
Sidenote:
EXCESSIVE FANSERVICE ALERT. I kind of failed to mention it the entire time, but it's there.
wlowe - 2013-07-19 06:24:41
Rosario + Vampire was one of my first ventures into a specifically ecchi-style anime. Of the few reviews I read about this series I gathered the idea that it wasn't going to be particularly amazing and while I admit it might not make my top 5 it was entertaining in its own way. This series had some of the best animation of its genre that made every episode wonderful to look at. In addition to this the character personalities were charming to say the least (Mizore 4 life). For example, the subtle reminders that while she looks human, Kurumu confuses typical human colloquialisms only to be comically corrected by Yukari. Coupled with great music R+V was certainly worthy of an 8, but I'm afraid not much more than that. While the characters, animation, and music were entertaining enough the story line and episodic nature was fairly weak. And honestly, that's pretty okay with me. If anything, this series made me really interested in picking up the manga right away and start reading. Even though the plot development and story construction was mild, it is pretty clear that I could gain a better appreciation for the story if I read the manga as well.
summer18 - 2013-06-22 06:32:31
Despite the somewhat sexual scenes this was a very enjoyable anime! Unlike otome animes this one focused on all of the the main characters liking the main character Tsukune who was a human going to a school for monsters, During this anime you will find yourself wnating to watch the next episode more and more as you get deeper and deeper into the anime! I wish they made another series but unfortunately they didnt. I would recomened this anime to ages 13+ because of some of the scenes that are a little intamate, but not seductive intimate but funny intamate. The story line was fantastic & the graphics were very well created. The sound quality was very goof and each character had personalities thast tiedn into the plot and went very well with the story-line good.m Overall I give this anime a 10.
