Asterisk War is an adventure that has barely gotta started, because of its slow pacing and no third season in sight. But none the less, it was a fun one to watch and what we have already is good enough to get your fill or thrilling action. Many of the characters though, are your basic archetypes put to the test, but isn't as heavy handed as other action harems like it. The show is more of the same thing we always see, but trust me, it feels different than the others.

You really need to take this anime for what it is. It's reminiscent of Infinite Stratos or Strike the Blood; a harem-like anime that doesn't necessarily push the boundaries in any way. But it is a fun diversion if you're willing to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

a anime who i have target directly just by seeing the cover and i'm satisfied of my choice but the most of people compare this anime to the other serie named Rakudai Kishi No Calvalry who have been completely butched with randomness but yeah this is sad but let's begin !

About The Story
the story begin with Ayato going to attend the School and got accepted in the Seidoukan Academy he have choose to go at this Academy for discover what happening to his sister named Haruka because he have lost her plus the memory "Data" of her in the Academy have been corrupted... like nothing have happened so he will try to discover what have really happened to her in this place and at the same time he will try to find something to do with his life , so... the development is pretty good they stay with the same story without going too far and later they put a another goal who are not going to replace the most important one.. that's mean they will do multiple goal by doing the main objective and this is interesting to know what have really happen to his sister and the strange power behind the Ogre Lux they are like special weapon who are pretty strong but you need to be compatible with it ,there is some moment who are behind the scene too.. who make the thing even more interesting and this is probably related to the main story , the characters in this anime are hiding a lot of things... and the others Academy look like to plotting some evil plan or something and that's make me curious a lot.. but back to the topic the main objective is to find what happened to the sister of Ayato and that's look like there some people who is trying to hide it... ! during the story we gonna have a tournament who each Academy is participating that's mean the most powerful will be in this tournament with some nice fight and a dose of Epic , at each episode we see something interesting and intriguing but let's not exaggerate.. ! this is just awesome because i like that when a story is respecting what he have promise at the beginning and at this moment i'm not disappointed... i can't wait to see the continuation of this story and what have really happened to his sister and what is gonna happen to him... Ayato is having a strange seal on him to... but why ? we don't really know but yeah.. the story is pretty great to follow because this is intriguing and gonna make you probably curious and... hyped to continue ! but if you want to know what i really think about it.... i freaking like it because there a lot of thing possible... i mean we cannot be sure of what is gonna happened because they are more than 1 bad person on Ayato so that's gonna be dangerous for him... this is more than a simple school competition this is like be followed by criminals or something like that... oh sorry for that i have again going out of topic.. xD ,  so yeah pretty good story with a good storyline and development.. who is following correctly the story without doing whatever they want and the end is pretty epic you need to see that ! but yeah at this moment i have some difficulty to find the bad points in this anime... so this is a good sign !

About The Animation and Sounds
well graphics are beautiful in 1080p clean and contain awesome color ! the fighting effect are really nice to watch.. i mean there a lot of color and that's just nice too see.. , for the Opening and Ending they are both awesome.. ! the Opening is making you hyped for the show and contain a lot of nice effect ! for the Ending this is like the moment to relax so the song is pretty relax and i like the animation too in the Ending because that's colorful and have great little effect again but... i leave you the link for it !

About The Characters
well we have some cool characters here... same goes for the evil and bad one .. let's just say they have all their own nice charms and have all their place in the anime , i will talk about some of them but there some of them who will not be mentioned so the important one will be mentioned ! and i will make the appropriate Academy for each character !

SEIDOUKAN

Ayato Amagiri / the one who are new at the Academy he try to know what have happened to his sister (find her) and this is his main objective by going to this Academy but at the same time he tried to find what he gonna do with his life , he like a lot his sister too that's why he try to find her and anyway they are in the same family so search for his sister is normal... , this is the kind of guy who are good and don't cause trouble to the others and are good with everyone and he is training a lot too and he have a Ogre Lux for fighting and he is pretty talented in combat too 

Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt / she is princess of Lieseltania she will be friend with Ayato later because of some event who gonna happen , she have a kind of pink rapier called Aspera Spina but will switch later for the Nova Spina for fighting and she use fire too and talented in combat and she is pretty serious about fighting , she is Ranked 5 in the Academy plus she is very kind and powerful but a Tsundere too

Kirin Tōdō / she is pretty small and cute but she have been train a lot for fighting with a sword and compared to the others she using a normal Katana and not a lux , his father have been sent to the prison for a reason that i will not say because you will discover it in the anime , and now she is under the care of his uncle.. , she have a objective and this is trying to get her father release from the prison , she is the kind of girl who are innocent and shy but when she fight she is really serious about it and will crush everything plus she is more powerful than she look... i mean she is Ranked 1 so she is very strong and she just using a normal Katana

Saya Sasamiya / she is the childhood friend of Ayato , she is a sleepy person like air headed and for fight she use a 38th generation Lux grenade launcher Helnekrom but gonna switch later with a 41 Gleaming Form - twin particle guns Waidenholt and Type 34 wave Motion heavy artillery Ark Van Ders... ( dat name i know ) she is a little funny because of her attitude of air headed because she look really sleepy everytimes and her father is a Mad Scientist too ! so he make weapon for her and Saya want to promote the weapons of her father at the same time !

Claudia Enfield / the student council president of the Seidoukan Academy and have stay at the same position since junior high , for fight she have twins weapons (Ogre Lux) called Pan-Dora and his comportment is like a dominant one.. i mean she is like... a lot on Ayato and teasing him but she can be serious when someone search problem with her and she is Ranked 2
Eishirō Yabuki / he is roommate with Ayato and in the newspapers club , he look strange and suspicious sometimes but yeah... he can be a cool guy this is like a good friend... but look like he hide something... but he search information everytime for the newspapers 

ALLEKANT

Ernesta Kühne / student and a leader of the Sculptor Faction , she is energetic and genius for making puppet "robot" and look like to plotting some evil plans.. she can look good but she is not..  plus she have 2 robot that's she have make and they are like children for her... they are named AR-D and RM-C.. and she look like to test Ayato a lot.. !

Camilla Pareto / she is silence and calm but are the most of the time with Kühne, probably each time you see her.. but Camilla is from the Lion Faction.. and she look like to follow the plans of Kühne 

AR-D / Male puppet of Kühne , if we say the complete name that's giving Absolute Refusal Defended Type so you can see that he is strong in defense.. but this robot is pretty funny because of his immature attitude but fighting really good , he form a Duo with RM-C

RM-C / Female puppet of Kühne , for her the complete name is Ruinous Might Cannon Type who mean that she gonna use guns for fighting and they damage a lot.. she have a serious attitude and respect a lot Kühne sometimes she will reprimand AR-D when he do something stupid or ridiculous , she is forming a Duo with AR-D

JIE LONG

Xinglou Fan / president of the Jie Long Academy , she is young and the only one we gonna see in this Academy in this season so there more people but we don't have meet the others already... we gonna need to wait until the Season 2 , back to the topic... she is too young for participate in the Festa so we don't see her a lot but she look like to underestimate everyone..

LE WOLFE

Dirk Eberwein / student council president of Le Wolfe , he look like to don't give a single f**k everytime and look never happy.. and are very serious but yeah.. he can intimidate some people i think just because of his strange mood 

Korona Kashimaru / a pretty innocent girl who look like a cat or something and are everytime with Dirk , she is really shy and scared of everything.. she gonna hide herself behind Dirk when she is scared and will stress a lot..

Irene Urzaiz / older sister of Priscilla and student , she is very violent and rude "intimidating" character.. she sometimes causing trouble because of her attitude and she use a dangerous and powerful Ogre Lux called Gravisheath and that's having the form of a Scythe.. , but she care a lot about her little sister and will punish everyone who do something bad to her sister

Priscilla Urzaiz / student of the Le Wolfe but innocent and gentle she is the little sister of Irene , compared to her sister she is really different and not bad at all but reprimand her older sister if she do something wrong , she don't fight at all Irene is doing the job and anyway Priscilla is too much gentle for hurting someone

GALLARDWORTH

Ernest Fairclough / President of the Gallardworth Academy he look like a noble and a guy who like show offing... well we don't see him a lot in the Season 1 we probably gonna see him more in the Season 2 but.. just by seeing him i don't like him... LOOOl
QUEENVALE

Sylvia Ryuneheim / president of the student council in the Academy of Queenvale , some people call her the World Number One Idol plus she is also know as Melodious Witch and Supreme Songstress , we don't see her a lot in the Season 1 she will be probably more present in the Season 2 but she look like a gentle girl

Violet Weinberg / she is a student from the
 Queenvale Academy , classed Rank 35 and think she is know by everyone... she is a funny one because of her attitude of thinking she is the best we only see her one time in the Season 1 during a pool time but we gonna probably see her much more in the Season 2 can't wait too see more thing about her

Others
Haruka Amagiri / older sister of Ayato who have disappear we don't know what have really happened but she is a important element in the story ! just with the flashback we can see that she look like a kind girl and pretty strong too 

About The Enjoyment
well i don't know where the hate coming from about this anime when this is pretty fun and interesting plus intriguing... the fight are good animated and the story have a solid goal who gonna keep you into the story and if you don't have a fun... i have difficulty to know why.. but that's a pretty cool anime i don't think you will be bored with this one.. ! this serie is awesome i have wait with impatience each week for seeing the next episode !

I recommend it for sure... instead of watching Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry... i highly recommend Gakusen Toshi Asterisk who contain a better build up and logical road without nowhere relation and events... , Asterisk War contain better story and graphic than Rakudai too.. plus Rakudai was butched... let's just say they are similar but Gakusen have clearly a better build up...  Gakusen Toshi Asterisk will have a Season 2 that i cannot wait to see and i'm pretty hyped for the next Season !!! look like the things will get even more interesting !

seriously i don't want to compare the 2 series but.. if everyone does.. i will just say why.. you should think that Asterisk War contain more appropriate build than Rakudai..

Allow me to preface this short and sweet review by saying that in general i strive to be a positive and optimistic human being, I scoured my soul trying to find one redeemable quality one aspect of this show that i sincerely enjoyed..and i found it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opening yes it's just about as generic as an anime opening as i can imagine, but hey i have a undying love for generic J-Pop.  

I'm not even going to bother breaking down every category individually because I've already wasted enough of your time.  Everything in this show you've seen before and done better by similar shows.

A futuristic academy where students have both scientific and magical based abilities, a tsundere heroine and a fighting tournament straight out of any shounen series.  If you like stories about futuristic cities, high school students and fighting go and watch either Toaru majutsu no index or Toaru kagaku no railgun, and if you enjoy fighting tournaments watch the dark tournament arc of Yu Yu Hakusho. 

Battles for the sake of battles are boring and dull regardless of the polish or how flash they appear,  fight scenes work only when we're invested enough in the characters to care about the action being presented.  

This is something both Yu Yu Hakusho and Index/Railgun manage to portray, The Asterisk War on the other hand i can't even recall half the characters name let alone give enough of a shit to become emotionally invested in them.

Also Julis, fucking Julis.  She is the most insufferable excuse for a heroine I've seen in a very long time, go die in a fire please...get it because of her vaguely defined magical ability. 

In closing youtube user DigiBro is currently in the midst of producing a series where he constructively analyses this series and breaks down in extensive detail why the show is so lackluster,  he does a better job reviewing than i ever could so i highly recommend checking his channel out. 

I'd never recommend this show to anyone other than a hardcore masochist who enjoys wasting their time,  Seriously i'd rather watch paint dry for hours than sit through this poor excuse for entertainment again.

love the songs and the charecters. only issue is it seems like a series where kirito character joins star wars. Other than that it was pleasing and enjoyable to watch especially when they combine the background sounds to the end song.

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk follows Ayato a boy starting at one of the greatest battle academy. This is called Rikka known as Asterisk this is the worlds largest stage for a battle event called Star Wars Festival. Ayato is invited to the academy by the Student Council President Claudia and after this is when he meets Julis one of the academies strongest fighters and winds up sharing a special bond with her. At first Julis really wants nothing to do with him but later on opens up and winds up making a team with him for the Star Wars Festival in this Festival teams of two face off to become the champions of the Star Wars Festival in this they endure many hard fights but they are able to prevail using Ayato hidden ability. Another team consists of Saya, Ayato little sister and new met friend Kirin former #1 ranked student in the academy. Ayato and Julis must face through many hard battles as partners and Ayato having to overcome a limiter on his power. Ayato faces many obstacles a long the way with his limiter will he be able to lift this curse? Will he be able to ever use his true power. What will they do after the tournament? This series is pretty awesome a lot of great action scenes mixed with good romance, great characters, and a awesome all around plot with a season 2 coming out it is one I will be looking out for!

Yay! I'm the first person to review this title. If only it was a good show that I was doing this for, and not some drek.

The Asterisk War follows Ayato Amagiri, a boy who has been invited to the Seidoukan Academy by the Student Council President of that academy, Claudia. On his first day, he incurs the wrath of the “Petalblaze Witch”, Julis, which results in her challenging him to a duel.

Now, normally, I would go on to talk about why I picked this anime up, but instead, I will ask two questions:-Have you seen the first season of Sword Art Online?-Have you seen the first season of Freezing?If the answer to both of those questions is “Yes”, then congratulations! You've seen The Asterisk War.

The Asterisk War is a prime example of every A1 Picture Light Novel Adaptation cliche - if you’ve seen SAO, chances are that you know what to expect - okay, there is one difference: SAO isn’t officially a harem; TAW is. The MC, Ayato Amagiri (Who I will be referring to as "Riceball-kun" for the rest of the review), is an overpowered badass who always seems to do the right thing, and always tries to please every girl in his harem; the first girl (Julis-Alexa The-Rest-of-Her-Name-Is-Too-Long-To-Remember) is a flame-wielding pink-haired tsundere (who I will be referring to as "Pinkhair McTsundere") who has violent overreactions to the MC’s screw-ups (so much so to the point where even Naru Narusegawa would say “Okay, I think you’re taking this too far”); there’s a token big sister character (Claudia) who is actually one of the better characters; and there’s two token lolis - a flat-chested, emotionless loli who just so happens to be Riceball-kun's childhood friend (Saya Sasamiya), and a nervous, mini-moe character (Kirin Toudou) who Riceball-kun helps out. The MC wins every one of his matches. And it’s pretty apparent that any character with a unique design will return to help the MC at a later point.

As for cliches with the story? Well, for an example, let me describe how the MC meets the first girl: Riceball-kun enters Pinkhair McTsundere's room, in order to return a hankerchief that just so happened to fly out of her window (admittedly, this set up, while not original, is not entirely cliché) - and predictably, McTsundere uses her powers to send Riceball-kun flying out of the window. Then, she challenges him to a duel. After a fight where it becomes apparent that it's going to end in a draw, he tackles her, causing an arrow that had been flying towards her head to miss - and in doing so, he accidentally gropes her. Now, in real life, if this happened, you'd expect Pinkhair McTsundere to either a), thank Riceball-kun for saving her life, b), find cover from the attack on her life, since another one could happen at any moment, or c), find the person who fired the arrow. But no, she chooses option d) (for "dumb") - get flustered because Riceball-kun groped her.

The animation is by A1 Pictures, and it’s very...lackluster when compared to some of their other works, such as Magi, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Sword Art Online. This is honestly kind of disappointing, since if this had been a show with top-notch animation, at least I would be able to recommend this as a show for pretty visuals. And if this was a long show like Fairy Tail, at least I could understand why the animation was lackluster, since it's stereotypical for the budget to be spread rather thin - but nope, this is 12 episodes; and since The Seven Deadly Sins had great animation over the course of 24 episodes, there's no excuse why A1 Pictures couldn't give this show great animation. The battles are like a hamburger from McDonald's - they do the job they’re supposed to, but you don’t really clamor for them.

I would normally talk about the characters here, but when describing the cliches, I...pretty much described them. So...let’s see here...oh! I did like Claudia’s character, mainly because she kind of reminded me of Azura Miura from The Idolm@ster. Another character I liked was Irene, a character who was introduced later on - who did defy my expectations. One of the few cases where the anime was able to surprise me. If only the rest of the anime was like this.

The music was composed by Rasmus Faber, and it’s...extremely forgettable. The only memorable part is the ending theme - which is a rather calm and soothing part.

Personally, if I was to go back in time to the beginning of this season and have the option of watching TAW again, knowing how I would feel about it, I would probably skip it and go watch Chivalry of a Failed Knight and/or Crest of the Stars instead, since both series involve a male character having a tsundere enter his life (however in CotS, the tsundere is much less violent, and actually is sweet at times; in Chivalry, the tsundere becomes more open about her feelings before the halfway point). But it's currently licensed by Aniplex of America, and available for streaming on FUNimation's website if you're still interested...although I haven't heard anything about a dub, but should one come along, I'll probably update this review.
