Heroman
ヒーローマンJoey is an orphan living with his grandmother in Center City on the West Coast of the United States of America. Joey, like any other boy his age, is interested in robots and gadgets and dreams about owning a particular toy robot called a Heybo. Heybos have very advanced mechanisms and controls but with great mechanisms comes great price; the robot is too expensive for Joey, whose only source of income is a part-time job at a restaurant and he needs that money to help support himself and his grandmother. One day, when Joey is on his way home from school, he happens upon a couple of bullies who are playing around with a Heybo. Long story short, the bullies manage to get the robot run over by a car and Joey retrieves the wreckage from a trash can. Once home, Joey fixes the robot and names it Heroman. Later that night, a thunderstorm results in Heroman getting wet and, improbably, struck by lightning. The result is amazing, Heroman grows massive in size, gets emblazoned with the colors of the American flag and responds to Joey's commands! At the same time in space, an alien race called the Skrugg is preparing an invasion of Earth. Now it's up to Joey and Heroman to save Earth!

So, I finally finished this show. It took a year and a few months but I did finish it, and I quite liked it. Heroman might be far from perfect but I did find it to be a very enjoyable watch, even though it's certainly is not your typical show. What's so diffrent about Heroman is that the story was written by Marvel's own Stan Lee (yes, he wrote a manga). This gives of a (for better of for worse) very "american" feel to the series. This show feels a lot more like an adaptation of a comic book rather than a manga and actually manages to keep this feeling better than most comic book adaptations I've seen. The comic book feel is probably the largest selling point of this show along with the production quality of Bones. Bones brings a similar quality they brought to Bounen no Xam'd (which is a very good thing). The animation is nice and free flowing and the artstyle fits the rest of the show fantastically. While I can't comment on the OST (since I did not pay much attention to it) beyond saying it was far from.
Still, this show has quite a few problems. The story is not completely consistant with the whole thing feeling like a mess (even though some arc's was rather good). The characters were also not something special (for the most part) yet the american influences that this show has makes them not as generic as they would have been otherwise. There is also one last problem I have with the show that makes the western influences a double-edged sword, this show is not dubbed. With all the western influences and all characters beeing american it doesn't fit watching this in subbed and I'm sure this show would be a whole lot better in english.
Heroman is a flawed and fun action series that desperately needs a dub. I recommend this show as long as your not looking for some incredible characters and story-telling.
