Story: An anarchistic country that is said to dominate the world exists on a vast island known as Moekko Island. This is where the final works of AC Company's android combat maids (resembling beautiful young girls) are done, also where these maids get there communication training. A new maid is to come to the island to be trained, Rinia, she is a young looking girl, who has lost her all of her memories, she tries very hard to impress the owner at Moekko island, but just ends up making a lot of trouble around the mansion. Takahiro, the owner of Moekko island, a depressive young man who has also lost his memories is seen as a very unhappy person who thinks Rinia will only be trouble around the mansion. As time passes, Takahiro slowly grows attached to Rinia's attempted ways of helping and so starts a beautiful relationship among the quiet island.
Well, the story sounds super clichéd but at the same time it sounds interesting. Hey, I kinda thought it was going to be something different, like a humorous kind of anime like Acchi Kocchi. Sadly this is not the case. Do not be fooled by the genre's, this is not a comedy or a romance anime, there is nothing funny or lovey dovey about this anime.
Despite its silly concept, it wants to be taken seriously, but at the same time they throw in some really stupid gags expecting us to laugh at them for some of the oddities that happen here. Its rare but its very noticeable (the fanservice doesn't help either). Even so, the worst part about this is every time a serious moment shows up, it drags and for no reason, cuts to something completely different and ruins the mood and tension, never bringing it up again! What was the point in all that? Speaking of, it doesn't get any worse in the last episode, there's no pace, no structure, and the ending was so half-assed and anticlimactic (we don't even see much of the after math... what happened after that?) that it honestly made me think that the whole thing wasn't all that worth it in my opinion.
And for gosh sake, there isn't even much 'combat maids' in this! The maids don't even do that until episodes 2 and 3 and the animation is ok there but they don't show much of it which is kind of sad if you ask me :c
Animation: The animation is stiff and choppy, the designs look super bland, the lip syncing is terrible, and so is the artwork. It does get fluid in some parts (once again like the very few fight scenes this has) but not so much.
Sound: The music is forgettable dreck. The OP and ED are unfitting pop-esque garbage that you probably heard before. I like pop but this is just dull, even for a show like this. The inserted instrumental track is all over the place ranging from sad to slightly chipper in a minute, its really disorienting. But that's nothing compared to the god awful voices. Oh god, every single character in this has a terrible voice that will most likely make your ears bleed. Special mention goes to the female lead Rinia. I never thought I'd hate squeaky voiced anime girls until I heard her, it kind of matches her personality really: whiny, annoying, boring, and won't shut the hell up!
Characters: Character, what's that? Almost no one in this show has any development or any character trait whatsoever and even the ones who do don't even have a lasting impression (Which is sad cause I kind of like the side characters, too bad they don't show up much and like I said earlier, have almost no traits). But needless to say, I'd take them over the leads any day. Takahiro, the male lead is probably the only one who gets any 'development', but its very basic and you probably will not care for him in the slightest. Plus, his personality is so bland. (In the first episode he's a jerk to Rinia, though I can't say I blame him cause... she's awful) At times he can be a jerk, but he also has a soft spot. It doesn't show often and adds nothing new to this cliché.
There's also things that they never explain or tie any loose ends to the show. You'll never find out about the male lead's past or why the bad guys want to kill him so badly and things like that. There is no epilogue or aftermath like I said before. Oh, and if you're looking for romance, don't bother, there is nothing like that in this at all, there's not even a confession at the end or anything like that... sigh.
Enjoyment: I kind of feel manipulated, honestly I thought the show had... some potential. I don't know why or how I came to that conclusion but I thought there'd be... ya know, something. I know you cannot judge an anime based on the premise alone, I've been fooled like that before, but this anime was just not that good at all. I might have given it a few points if not for the ending and overall tone this show had (dem liars). Did not enjoy at all.
Overall: Maybe if they had given this more episodes, or an OVA to wrap up the story, and had at least focused on some of the good things in the show, then this could have worked. But as it is, this is one of the worst OVA's I've ever seen. Take my advice and do not watch it.
Thanks for reading my 64th review (yay, I love that number)~
